Brought my vehicle in today because it's been burning oil. Bob looked it over for a few hours and ran some diagnostics on it. After having a lot of trouble with my car's battery, my car finally died and I had it towed to Midway Muffler and Brake in El Sobrante. They ran diagnostics and told me that they'd need to change out a bad alternator. I was not offered a choice of alternator. I was given a year warranty. This was June last year. It is now August 4th and my car has died again. I am just outside of the warranty and the AAA mechanic told me that the alternator that was used was a very poor quality O'REILLY part. I drove to another garage. Without mentioning what the AAA driver said, they independently assessed that a cheap part was used and that the part needed replacing. A year ago, Midway charged me $650. Today, with a better alternator, I will spend $500. I have been to Midway twice. Both times they left tools in my car or under my hood. If you want the best parts used in your car and attention to detail, I would recommend you look elsewhere.​ read more

I don't go to El Sobrante for anything! I went to a school in the area and hated it (the experience and the people). So, I really wanted to go somewhere in Oakland or Berkeley. But I saw my guy in Berkeley and let him know that I needed a tune-up and an oil change and he asked, "what's an oil change?" So, he was not the one. I came here after asking for some quotes from others. I needed a tune-up and an oil change. My sister comes here and recommended them to me and I did contact them pre-pandemic and was not thrilled. But, I did need some work on my car and wanted someone reliable. So I called and made an appointment and they did what they said they would. I got my oil change and tune-up. They then checked my brakes, something that I was warned about, so I wasn't surprised. But coming here was easy. I made an appointment, arrived, and they took care of my car. I received a call about the brakes and I got them fixed. I also really like that they gave me a quote and the price didn't vary from it. So, when I went in, they had the filers that they had removed and were able to show them to me. They also showed me the brakes. Which I appreciated as well. They suggested another repair but I'll have that looked at in April during my easter break. Also, I need new tires in front, which I figured. But I have to say that I can see myself bringing my car here in the future for the work needed. Thanks so much for working on my car. read more

I would rate my experience as above and beyond what an auto repair shop does. As a younger woman sometimes it feels as if sometimes mechanics will take advantage of my igonorance, but Bobby was absolutely so informative, helpful, and considerate. Their whole staff is amazing. My car had a check engine light on and they found that it was because my gas cap was broken and causing signals of a false leak in my engine. They got me all squared away in basically no time and squashed all of my anxieties in an instant. It feels so nice to have fellow community members looking out for you and the safety of your vehicle. I was waiting in a long auto line to recycle some bottles at a Recycle Center and after starting and stopping numerous times my car wouldn't start again. AAA came to tow me, and suggested Midway Muffler as the place to go. I thought all they did was mufflers, but I learned they do a lot more. My fuel pumps needed to be replaced and they checked a lot of other things. They are a very friendly and honest business, and in a good location. After they got my car running as good as new, I made an appointment to exchange my brake fluid. It was done in a good amount of time, less than I expected. Get your estimates in writing, not just verbally at Midway. I was quoted a price to do a job. I could not go, so I had my sister take the car in. She was charged $55 more than the quote. When I called asking for a correction, they said they remember my call, and they know the estimate because it was in the computer. They never told me that price. I specifically wrote the price down, and decided to use them as they were $10 cheaper than a good friend. I should have gone with my friend. They do good work, but ask for the estimate in writing, before they start work! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. As a woman, and the daughter of a retired mechanic, I'm always cautious when going somewhere new. I had been taking my car to a local dealership, and that was getting more expensive and less reliable in service. Came here in minutes notice and they took good care of me. I saw them topping off some fluids even though i didn't ask them too. They were welcoming and honest, very upfront. They gave me a fair price for brake pad replacement and rotors for the front axil which got ground down by a worn out pad that had a metal part exposed. Plenty of parking, comfortable waiting area, and nice location right on the main road. I saw them welding, cutting, and shaping exhaust pipes as well. A lug nut must have fallen off or someone took it, but they noticed it was missing and gave me one. Would recommend. read more

So I finally got the headers I wanted and brought my truck in to get the custom exhaust job done. When I picked it up I was very very pleased, it looked great, all the pipes were run very neatly, and the truck sounded AMAZING!!! I know Randy did his very best on it and I am very pleased. The next day, I really crawled underneath to see his handywork, and I must say I am very impressed. All the hangers are in the right place, using top quality equipment, the pipes are run beautifully, and all the welds are top notch. We've had nothing but GREAT service from them. We've been customers for almost a decade now. I love the recommendations they (the person who actually worked on our vehicle) give us.
