He did an xray of my mouth immediately and then laid out all my options for the tooth. I decided to have the tooth pulled and he finished the procedure in ten minutes. Absolutely no pain whatsoever. And he is very, very reasonable- price wise. My brother had a tooth pulled and he paid five times as much. Dr Barnes is a saint. He did a root canal on another tooth last year and he let me pay for it every month. He works with you. I have no dental insurance. I don't know what I'd do without him. Oh, yes I do. I'd be in pain and I'd end up at one of the high priced gyp joint dentists in the area.

Brought it to their attention and they said oh well it's probably your insurance fault. I would not recommend the new dentist, Dr. Bollendorf, at Dental Care of Salem. I had never…read moreexperienced any issues with my teeth until receiving treatment here. I originally went in for a couple of fillings, but the pain only got worse. After a month of ongoing discomfort, I returned and was given a 6-day course of steroids. When that didn't help, I was told I now needed a root canal--but the soonest appointment was nine days out, despite the fact that I was in severe pain. Because I couldn't wait that long, I made an appointment with an endodontist who could see me sooner. In the meantime, my pain escalated to the worst I've ever felt. I couldn't touch my tooth or eat. I had to undergo an emergency pulpotomy just to get temporary relief. The specialist performed an extensive exam with CT scans and X-rays and discovered an additional root and canal that my dentist had completely missed. Had the proper diagnostic work been done initially, it's likely I would never have needed a root canal at all. After the root canal, I still needed a crown. I scheduled it with Dental Care of Salem--but one hour before my appointment, the office called to inform me I would have to pay over $900 out of pocket because insurance would not cover any more work. No notice, no warning, just an unexpected bill due immediately. I canceled and spoke with the office manager, Amanda hoping they would acknowledge the situation and take responsibility for the mistake. Instead, they refused to reimburse anything or even consider comping the crown, despite the pain I'd been left in and the improper care that caused the need for additional treatment. Their response was essentially: "Sorry to see you go." The lack of patient care, accountability, and basic compassion from both Dr. Bollendorf and the office manager Amanda was shocking. They were indifferent to my severe pain, dismissive of their role in the problem, and completely unwilling to make it right. I would not recommend Dr. Bollendorf or Dental Care of Salem to anyone.

However, the DDS was good so we stayed. I do not want my young child to get X-rays which has never been a problem in the past. Suddenly they won't see us without them. Despite insurance only covering them every other year they insisted they are needed every year for them to provide service. They even used pressure tactics such as "it's illegal not to", "my license requires it", etc... Any office that tries to pressure you by scaring you and flat out lying to you is not one that I'm willing to put my trust in. If you value honesty in your provider go somewhere else.

The only downside: I wish they would take monthly payments like my previous dentist, but they only take Care Credit. Interest free for the first year, making a $6000 bill "a lifetime payment to Care Credit." Very nice building and professional office/practice facilities. Plenty of parking. Just remember, any large procedure, they want the cash up front. No installment payments.
