A rude and sarcastic sales person is how I will begin this review. I interviewed 4 fence companies and determined on timeline and pricing as to the company I would choose. All companies followed up with me and I responded 'I chose another vendor, thank you for your time'. I hired Midwest fence to install a large fence and a rolling gate opener a few years ago. They subcontracted my job, which is fine. All looked good, until the first winter hit. And then again, the next winter. The subcontractor has been back to repair heaving of the posts due to frost but, also had told me that he will not be back to repair again. He is done with my project. I am having the same issue this year, and asked Midwest fence to send someone else, and we could split the cost to do it right this time. They drug their feet to even respond to my calls. Daren brushed me off to Nate and after a few calls he did answer and was very condescending, blew me off and told me that the project is in a swamp. It's not, it's on the high side of a residential ditch with plenty of area for water to run away. He told me that he could not do it any better than what was already done. They couldn't say enough about how good the subcontractor was. Obviously, not that good, looking at my project. I'd rather have found the right company to do it right the first time. I have hired someone else this time. I gave them a fair amount of money only to have to pay someone else to do it right. I haven't decided if I should take this further. read more

Do they install a quality fence? Yes. Is the phone support good? No. The phone support cannot even get a message correct. I called in for fence repair to a fence they installed a few years ago. The message conveyed was that I was calling for a new fence. Not even close. Do they use sales reps for repairs? Yes, you have to meet with a sales rep before they will even put you on the schedule for a repair. Are the sales reps respectful and helpful? No. The sales rep that called me was more combative than anything else. Going on and on how he is working 6 days a week and they are so slammed they won't even get to come to the property for a few weeks and then it will be months IF even this year before the repair can be done. It took over 15 minutes before he even offered an appointment time. Would I recommend this company? For initial install yes but find elsewhere to have repairs done. The actual fence installers are wonderful. It's just all the hoops you have to go through to get to them feels like you've been at a three ring circus. It leaves you exhausted and frustrated. There should be a separate department for repairs to products they have installed. That is their downfall. They have zero customer service available for those that are customers and have purchased their products and been loyal to them. They do not value the customer because they are in high demand and they view us as disposable. read more

We've had Midwest Fence (MF) on our list for several years and this year, we finally decided to get our fence replaced. Glad we did and glad Mark O'Connor at MF was still willing to talk to us...LOL! Great guy. Friendly and very customer focused. Mark came out and redid our estimate (from a few years ago) and other than a few add-ons, we were on target with expected costs. We set up the agreement and went on the schedule (a lot of others were doing fences and MF had to catch up with previous orders impacted by the pandemic). Mark and the team kept us informed of timelines and even got to us a bit earlier than expected, which we were grateful for! The crew that came out were friendly, focused, and very customer-centric. They kept us informed of progress and next steps and were very mindful and careful of our neighbors, so as not to impact them during the project. We have to say we are extremely pleased with the results! The color and how it looks on the property has been commented on by all our neighbors. Also, I've NEVER seen such a straight line! Hats off to Tom S. and the rest of the crew at Midwest Fence and Manufacturing in South St. Paul. I took 30 feet of fencing and posts with me when I moved from the suburbs to the country last year. This week, Tom paid great attention to detail and my particular needs as he helped me add to those materials and design a big new kennel around a shed on my property. I sent him a sketch of my plans and Tom figured out all the posts, rails, chain-link fabric and hardware I would need. He helped me figure out how to do it most economically. Then, using a demo model outside the business on Villaume Avenue, he showed me how to put it all together. We made a little video. Not only that, they were able to replace two broken corners on my old gate so I could use it in my new kennel. Rodrigo, Lorenzo and the rest of the crew I met deserve a shout out, too, for great customer service. read more

DO NOT USE MIDWEST FENCE! They gave an estimate and billed later for a completely garbage bill. Also, they post their free advertisements all around your fence. Staff pretty rude and they also tore up our yard AND our neighbor's yard with zero regard for putting the freshly laid sod back down... They also completed more costly fences in the neighborhood prior to ours.... I just wouldn't ever recommend midwest fence. read more

We received an estimate from them. There was nothing in our request that was considered during the estimate. The entire time I was talked down to and told what we needed instead of what was requested. We did not hire them. Derek came out to meet us at our house. I asked him a simple question about getting a horizontal fence installed. He then started to rant about how horizontal fences don't last and will never keep our dog in our yard. There are dozens of horizonal fences in our neighborhood that are 20-30+ years old and look no different from their vertical counterparts. He then spent the rest of the meeting showing me samples of their "unique" treated cedar and how it puts them above the competition. It devolved in to a slimy used cars salesmen type of conversation reminescent of the "TruCoat" scene from "Fargo". "Yeah, but I'm sayin', that TruCoat!". If you use good cedar, you should not need to treat it. I then received an estimate for a fence that looks like everyone else's fence in the neighborhood. It was cheaper than all of our other estimates. Looking at other fences in the neighborhood done by them, I see you get what you pay for. Look elsewhere for your fence. read more

Do not use Midwest Fence. We had a fence installed several years ago and the fence needed repair. We contacted Midwest Fence and they came to look at the repair job. They said we would receive a quote within the week and nothing. We reached out again looking for the estimate and were ignored. A month has now passed and we can't get a return call or email. Our perception is they are arrogant and if the job doesn't reach a certain price, they're not interested. I am shocked they will not stand behind their product and perform repairs when needed. We were fully ready to pay for the job, but apparently our money isn't good enough for them. read more

Seen this spring a couple post were heaving out from the mn.winter, right before the end of the warranty they came out an inspected it and repaired it much better then i had expected. I hate to say it, but I regret working with Midwest Fence. Save yourself the hassle and hire another company. From having to hold the salesperson accountable for a $500 price difference between the initial quote and signing the contract to incomplete work, I have had to work to keep this company accountable. This is not something that a homeowner should have to stress about. The crew dug up two significant holes in our patio pavers to install the fence posts...8 months later they are still not repaired and the "people in charge" do not oblige me with proper responses about this. I'm now going to responsible for putting their pieces back together. What a mess. The company has had to come out two times since installation to fill gaps in the fence. I'm grateful they have followed up on these requests. However, it should have been done right the first time. So, I have to fail them on their workmanship. Unless you enjoy overseeing the work of others, Save yourself the headaches and hassle and hire a different company. read more

I built my fence two years ago. It was clear early on there is no communication between departments. Sales will tell you one thing, installation will tell you something else. I had problems with a post heaving affecting a gate about a year ago. They came out fairly quickly to repair that. (Probably because my boyfriend called in, somehow he never seemed to have the struggle that I have). The new gate was never constructed in the same way. The latch was not secure. I have been trying to get this "warranty" repair completed since June! I installed the fence to secure my dog and for added security from crime. Not secure with a detachable latch. Someone entered my fence and broke into my garage last. Thanks a lot Midwest for nothing. read more

Our fence was installed by Midwest fence before we bought our home. In 2018 we had a house fire and lost our entire home. The contractor was very careful to remove the fence before starting demolition, and none of the fencing was damaged. The contractor tried to set up appointments for us with Midwest fence, but they couldn't be bothered to ever return the calls or answer the phone. We tried as well, leaving dozens of messages but never hearing back. They seem to have no sense of customer service at all, so we will definitely be looking at Northland Fence or Dakota Unlimited to either reinstall or replace our fence. read more

This was one of the best experiences I have had and I am picky. The company was able to alter the date of our picket fence installation because our daughter moved back to Mpls, had a baby, and brought her dog with her sooner than expected. Some of the posts had splits and they replaced them happily. The result was a beautiful picket fence and three happy dogs!! Service staff were lovely and friendly as well. I have a fence. It looks nice. It will keep my dog in. I wouldn't be able to buy a very small dog, though. When the Midwest Fence salesman came out, I made it very clear I needed a fence for my dog. He told me that the fence could be 1/2 to 1 inch from the ground, and that was written in the contract. I specifically asked and he assured me that the slope of my yard would not be a problem with regard to that. Fast-forward to when the fence was installed. The foreman of the crew installing the fence was also very aware that the fence was being installed to contain my 25-pound dog. There were sections of the fence that were 4-5 inches off the ground. Not acceptable. In the end, after numerous phone calls and two extra trips back by them, the spots 4-5 inches off the ground were fixed. There are still spots 2-3 inches off the ground & they offered to have their guys look at those, too. However, by that point, I was very tired of dealing with them and them digging up my yard and destroying my irrigation system (which was impossible to completely avoid with where the fence and irrigation were located, but it was like they weren't even careful to TRY to avoid a lot of it). At least my current dog (25 pounds) is contained. Though a significantly smaller dog might not be which could be a problem in the future. I would never recommend to anyone hiring this fence company. read more

Do not waste your time or money on Midwest Fence - take the time to inform yourself from reviews of past customers, not only on Google, but Yelp & BBB. The themes of total lack of customer service, never returning a call or email, blaming issues due to product/install on the consumer, and a total inability to stand behind their product & fix problems are 100% accurate in my opinion. We have experienced all of this in our time with Midwest Fence. We chose an aluminum fence as a low-maintenance option in Dec 2019. We specifically called during this time to get our fence installed as early in the Spring as possible - and were told that we would be part of the first group of crews going out to install. Spring rolls around and we begin to reach out (constantly) because you almost never receive follow-up from Midwest. We are spoken down to and told that there are 100s of people in line for install prior to us. I have no issue being flexible/patient, but do not like being lied to and deceived. At this point we mistakenly decided to proceed since our goal was to get this fence installed as early as possible - cutting ties and going with a different company would have meant waiting until late Summer/Fall to get a fence for our house. We had hoped that the fence would be installed, we could enjoy our yard & wouldn't have to speak with them again. Fast-forward less than one year and our "low-maintenance" fence (black aluminum) is now totally covered in a white crust/build-up. We've had numerous people (irrigation crew, deck crew, neighbors, etc.) saying that they have never seen something like this on an aluminum fence. I contact Customer Care and am also told by THEM that they have never seen this before and that they will be reaching out to the manufacturer. They come to the conclusion that the fence will need to be replaced. I figure that works for me and glad it could be resolved. About a week later an "Operations Manager" for Midwest reaches out and wants to come look at the fence, this seems odd to me since I thought everything was already settled. He doesn't even initially say what he is coming for - but comes and looks the fence over and proceeds to tell me that I must have sprayed something on the fence to cause this, it isn't their problem, and I need to contact a cleaning service myself to get it fixed. He has no interest in having a real conversation about the issue, just continues to repeat that I must have sprayed something to cause this. I do contact a professional cleaning service (who again proceeds to tell me they have never seen something like this occurring on an aluminum fence). Their professional opinion was that it is hard-water mineral deposits, but couldn't guarantee that they would even be able to remove it. I have care instructions from the Operations Manager at Midwest that state "On occasion you may want to spray your fence with a garden hose" for cleaning purposes, seems odd that I would be given this direction for cleaning and then told I am doing something that is making the fence look terrible. I emailed them the opinion and quote of the cleaning company two weeks ago to share all of this with them and ask if the fence was truly manufactured correctly and if this is the product that they are standing behind - to which I have had no response, of course. Now I have a "low-maintenance" fence that I thought was properly built for exterior use, but looks like an old piece of scrap metal every time is gets wet. With everyone that keeps letting me know that "they haven't seen this happen before" or "the fence doesn't look so good" I like to remind them that it was done by Midwest Fence. Take your hard-earned money and time and find a company that cares about doing what is best for you - it is NOT Midwest Fence. read more

Trusting the company you work with, especially on small jobs, is the most important part of the job other than the result, maybe even more important than price in the end. You have to trust that they will do what they promise and that they will make it right if they fall short. I learned that Midwest Fence is a company with a huge amount of integrity and that matters. Terry, their GM, is a rock solid guy. It wasn't a perfect job to start, that happens, but by the end of it I had a ton of respect for the company, the team, and a damn fine looking gate. The post crew said the 2nd installation crew was to clean up when finished. The installation crew said the post crew should have done this. I spent over an hour cleaning entire fence wiping down from top to bottom. This was disappointing for Midwest Fence, and was not the pristine condition it should have been. This was disheartening given the price of the product, no customer should have to clean their own newly installed fence to be sparkling clean. read more

This company is so ridiculously bad. We were told 4-6 weeks for our fence and had to contact them to get an update. Going into the 11th week now and they still have only installed the posts. Communication is horrible and service is even worse. I'm not sure if they don't have enough installers or what, but they are just so so bad at their jobs. Horrible customer service. When you call general line you have to leave a message. The worst part is that nobody ever reached out to us. We have to continually call and ask for updates or ask where they were at in the process. After they installed the posts, we were told one week to let them set and then they would be dry. We then had to call them after a week had passed (left a message again) and they said they were coming back after the 4th, which will be over 2 weeks after the posts were installed. So now we just have posts around our yard AND the huge pile of dirt from them putting in the posts that they just left. Lastly, during the post install, they cut a cable line. It was an old line so it didn't matter, but they never checked or told us about it and instead just called Comcast. Flip to next morning when Comcast shows up and says they are here to check the cut line and we have no idea what they are talking about. All they had to do was ask. Again...they suck at communication. Go with Town and Country Fencing. I accidentally called them instead when I was mad (I know, so dumb!) and the customer service level they gave me was just outstanding, and I wasn't even their client!! read more

We recently had a fence put in by Midwest Fence. The communication is non-existent. We received a call that workers would come by the end of the week to put in posts. They arrived the next day. The foreman(?) told us that workers would arrive 'in a week' to install the fence. Well, a week came and went, no fence. Not even a call alerting us to their lateness. Finally, my husband called. The person he had contact information for was only concerned/knowledgeable about sales. He had no information about when our fence would be finished nor did he provide contact information for someone who would know. When the workers finally arrived, weeks later, they were extremely rude when questioned. The entire experience was overly long and frustrating. The plus is that in the end our fence looks beautiful, but for the price you'd think you'd get communication and top notch customer service. Would not recommend. read more

Only the posts were done in our backyard after waiting for weeks of availability. A week later the rest of the fence was put together with poor service . We requested the foremen to finish what we paid for and was a struggle to get a response. They finally did what we asked for with unprofessional fashion. I felt they deserve 5* because when they put in a fence between our lot line and a combative neighbor (a few years back--not there now), they worked with the correct surveys, city regulations, and put in a beautiful fence for a reasonable price. Ordered my fence through Paul H. at Midwest fence. He was very friendly and showed up on time. Midwest fence is a little pricier in my opinion with the quote I received but the little things that they do like beveling the cement at the base of the post to shed water and a few other things make it worth it. He informed me that they were a couple months out on installs and said someone will contact me a week before they come out which they did. Dale the fence installer was great!! Cannot say enough about the quality of the work he did. Did not waste anytime and I could tell he knew exactly what he was doing. Fence totally exceeded my expectations and we love it. Called this company 5 years ago to get a bid on fencing my yard - they were so rude (especially the receptionist) I didn't even follow up with them for pricing. Fast forward 5 years and they are replacing the fence for my neighbors, that separate our 2 properties. Their workers allowed my 13 year old dog to wander right past the hole they created in the fence, and roam the neighborhood. I called their office to let them know that perhaps they needed to provide education to their workers in what to do in a situation like this, and I was met with an extremely rude, snappy, and sassy receptionist once again. So disappointing that they were not professional or respectful when contacted. Steer clear of them. read more

We were very impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of this company from the sales consultant (very savvy on designing and locating the fence) to the installation crew. We installed a PVC privacy fence on a sloped yard and from the way it turned out are grateful to the rep for directing us to various sites installed by his company and various competitors.
