Meiko helped with a special delivery. She prepared my order super quickly so that we could deliver it by way of Uber. The whole process took about one hour. Wonderful service. Very friendly phone call as well. I would urge you to stop in and see her little shop. It's right next to Art on the Boulevard so you can see great local art while are you visit there as well. New to Vancouver with no florist to call my own, I went on a hunt for a florist to put together a hostess gift for a lovely lady who invited me to her home. After speaking with Mieko on the phone, I popped by her shop to talk about my "vision" for the arrangement I wanted her to put together for me. Since Mieko never knows what she's going to find at the flower mart on any given day, she couldn't guarantee any specific flowers, but I described the color palette, size of the flowers and the type of vase I wanted and trusted her to put together something nice. Well, I got a lot more than "nice." When I showed up the next day to pick up my arrangement, I found that Mieko had obviously listened very carefully to what I'd described because waiting for me was a beautifully created arrangement that exactly matched my vision. The flowers were vibrant, fresh, and gorgeously arranged in just the right vase. I'll definitely be proud to hand my host her little "thanks for having me" gift this morning. Mieko is the sweetest person you will ever meet. She is so knowledgeable and friendly you'll feel guilty going anywhere else. She sells out of flowers often because of her location and the foot traffic she gets but trust me, she is accommodating. If you don't like what you see she will make it right. First time I came in it was my mother's birthday and she loves salmon pink roses. She ran out but she found a lovely purple shade that became her new favorite. Mieko even gave me an Orchid when my mother was sick. I have bought from her ever since. Her poinsettias are amazing! Be sure to call ahead as they are extremely popular. read more

I actually found Mieko's Marketplace Flowers via Google. I was searching for local florists within the Vancouver, WA/Portland, OR.area that could offer me beautiful, yet simple flowers, in my colors, close to the theme I had in mind and within budget. I had several appointments at various florists throughout the week but got the best vibe from Mieko herself. I must say she wasn't the cheapest florist in town; however, I felt the most confident that she understood my vision and color scheme. I had pre-printed about 5 pages of flower arrangements and types of flowers I was interested in, within my color scheme, and brought them with me, along with my color swatches, to the appointment. (Note: Make sure you have 2 copies of those so you can leave one set with the florist). Seeming as how I got married at the end of April, a lot of the flower varieties I loved weren't in season yet and/or weren't available. (Note: everything is available if you're willing to pay a small fortune to get it). Peonies were, of course, at the top of that list, along with dahlias, football mums, cabbage roses and ranunculus. I also was in love with small garnishments within the bouquets, like baby's breath, soft colored green succulents, and hypericum berries for that added pop of color. Simple yet romantic looking flower arrangements were my theme, in shades of pinks, peaches, and soft greens. I didn't want white flowers at all, thinking they'd clash with my ivory colored dress. Instead, I wanted a soft pop of color that complimented both me and my Matron of Honor. I didn't need very many either. Just a bouquet for myself, one for my Matron of Honor, 3 for the Mother's involved, and about 6 small vases for the bistro tables at my reception. Our flowers turned out amazing! More beautiful and completely different than I had imagined, but all in very good ways. I basically gave Mieko the reins and told her to just handle everything. I felt she had understood my vision and color scheme and knew what types of flowers I was most interested in and she nailed it! My bouquet was petite (not overly heavy) but beautiful and filled with light pink, peach and ivory colored roses, taller lime green sprigs of something and little lime green berries to match. She wrapped the stems in an ivory colored ribbon, which was great, because it blended with my dress perfectly. My Matron of Honor's bouquet was a smaller version of mine, adorned with the same soft colored flowers that were in my bouquet. And the 3 Mother's flowers were just gorgeous. They also consisted of the same flowers that were in my bouquets but she used faux pearls as the wristbands so each Mother could wear them around their wrists like corsages. Beautiful. Besides her excellent work, she was very flexible as well, which was crucial because we got married on a Sunday, when most other florists were closed. I believe her business is actually closed on Saturdays and Sundays; however, she was willing to work with having my Mom pick the flowers up on Sunday morning, prior to our afternoon wedding. That alone was a God-send! Would I use Mieko's Marketplace Flowers again? Definitely! Would I recommend her to a friend? Again, definitely! It's so important to know, especially when planning a wedding, that you're putting your faith (and money) into the hands of someone that you trust. The best florist in Vancouver, period! I haven't seen such an eclectic variety of fresh flowers anywhere else. Tropical "birds of paradise" and other beautiful things I couldn't identify, orchids of all hues, Canadian Gerber daisies, lush clusters of hydrangea, the most vividly purple kale, and so many unusual types of greenery... The sweet lady behind the counter is the owner, who was so helpful in the face of my overwhelming uncertainty and gave me lots of tips for keeping my flowers fresh longer. I went next door for coffee while waiting for her to make the arrangement and came back to see a vase bursting with lilies, daisies, clover, and feared I'd been duped, that there was no way it would fit in the $50 budget I specified...it came to $47 and looked SO much better than I could have imagined! Based on my experience with a nearby competitor in downtown Vancouver, I couldn't believe it. Since that initial visit, I've gone back several times and have been absolutely satisfied. I can't believe the money I've wasted at other florists when Marketplace has been here this whole time! This place is an absolute gem. read more

Mieko is very kind and personable while providing exceptional service. She makes you feel like family. My sister's baby was born stillborn at 8 months and I was devistated. I live out of state and was not able to attend the services but wanted my sister and her husband to feel our love for them. I requested an all white bouquet of flowers with white roses incorporated as much as possible. Mieko went out of her way to go to the flower market to pick the freshest white flowers. She delivered it to the gravesite in the children's cemetary, which is an unsual request. My sister called me 2 1/2 weeks after the funeral to let me know she just threw the last of the arrangement away. I was amazed the flowers lasted so long. When I first called and explained my situation, Mieko told me she would pray for my sister and her family. This really touched my heart as we are a very religious family. Quite possibly the worst floral experience ever: the bill came to $83 with delivery, and that was for 9 paltry Gerbera daisies in a plain glass vase with scant greenery: if you work it out, that comes to over $7 per flower! Especially galling as the daisies were completely wilted and dead in TWO days! The response from Marketplace when contacted? "There are no refunds, as flowers are perishable items." Theirs in particular, apparently. Go somewhere else for your flowers, and save a bundle. read more

My daughter had the flowers for her wedding done here. I must say I was very highly impressed with the quality. The only downside is there with a rather modest selection of flowers on hand the day I went with Amanda for her consultation, but she has bought flowers here before and I trusted her to make a good choice. Mieko, the owner, does have a portfolio of photographs to show her style but stressed that she does not use cut-and-dried "recipes." Personally I was nervous, not knowing her style, but of course it was not my decision to make. I am glad to say the end results far exceeded expectations. For the price we paid I was surprised and pleased at how rich the centerpieces looked, my daughter of course had more important things on her mind than criticizing the flowers and catering (leave that to Mom) but this was by far the best choice we made for her wedding. At first glance this place doesn't seem all that impressive, it's cute, and the owner is very down-to-earth, but she certainly knows what she is doing with her flowers, and it shows. Mieko's Marketplace Flowers is incredible. A friend of mine from out of state ordered flowers for me as congratulations for taking the medical school entrance exams. Mieko called in advance to verify my address and found that not only had my friend given her an address I hadn't lived at in four years, I wasn't even in town to receive the flowers! It was a surprise delivery that my friend had arranged for me, and could have ended in disappointment if Mieko hadn't been so quick thinking and generous with her time. I suggested Mieko could leave the flowers at the main office of my apartment complex and I'd get them in a few days when I got home. But Mieko wanted me to have fresh flowers! She actually offered to make me a new, fresh bouquet and deliver it later in the week when I'd be in town. I couldn't believe it. I felt like the recipient of such good thoughts: the gift of the bouquet from my friend and the gift of quality from Mieko. Mieko put so much more time and effort into making sure I got my delivery than I ever would have expected from any floral delivery. And I wish I could post a picture of the bouquet...it is gorgeous!
