    The Mighty Bowl

First time trying out The Mighty Bowl. There seems to be two carts, one in Hazel Dell and the other in Downtown Vancouver. At the time of ordering, my local one in downtown was closed. They also had odd opening hours, closing at 3pm?! Weird. So off to Hazel Dell we went. Did an online order and it was ready very fast, in 8 minutes. The second bowl I ordered at the stand and it was prepared even faster in less than 3 minutes. Amazing! Must be ninja skills. I only had a choice of one bowl, The Mighty Bowl which had beans, brown rice , avocado, salsa, olives, cilantro and then sour cream and cheese. You could easily omit the diary items though and make it vegan which is cool. You also had a choice of sauce that you could choose to go over your bowl. I chose the peanut sauce as I love it. The bowl was wholesome, very healthy and filling too. I enjoyed mine and so did hubby. He wished it was bigger though. Everything tasted pretty fresh and tasty to me. 5 stars :)

I love how there was plenty of seating all around - no accidentally bumping into someone else while walking around and exploring all the food options! There were hightops, larger tables for groups of 10+ people or for communal seating, and bar seating at some of the vendors too. The space can also be rented out for private parties, etc. The water stations were scattered thoughtfully around the dining areas so you don't need to go far for water or bussing your table. The bathrooms were reasonably clean as well (with a key code - ask at any vendor to get it). I would come back again to try more food - it's a welcoming space. I got Shanghai's Best and was too full to try Lil' Funky Donuts.

The location is not ideal in terms of access and some of the typical challenges you would expect in downtown Portland. Otherwise, it's a fun experience for an occasional visit and the food options are plentiful. There are about eight food concepts in total on the perimeter of the building with a main bar in the center. I went with a rice bowl from one spot and had a few of the mini donuts from the other location for dessert. I also saw a Thai food concept, a smoothie bar and a ramen spot. There are a lot of different seating options available, but none of them are particularly comfortable. When I went for dinner, the place was only about half full and the trash area was a little bit unkempt. Parking is available on the street or in adjacent lots but everything is paid during typical daytime hours from about 8 AM until about 7 PM. The bathrooms do require an access code but are available on site. Personally, I feel like this place had a bit more clout when it first opened before the pandemic. But, it still has some relevance and it's a great spot for a casual meal just because of the variety of options that are available. If you come with a group, everyone can try what they like. Overall, a good showcase of some under the radar food establishments that conglomerate in a fun shared space. Check it out!

I can only hope the younger folks from across the street (high school) don't ruin the place. So far it all seems to be going well. My wife had Korean Fried Chicken and I had the BBQ.....EXCELLENT ALL AROUND! The standout was the brisket burger I had....HUGE chunks of well seasoned and expertly cooked brisket, not "greasy" at all (which is the downfall to a lot of places that serve brisket). Located in the shadow of a magnificent oak tree, visitors will enjoy a shaded and pleasant place to share a meal with friends and family. There is amble parking, and lots of room for kids to play in the park-like setting under the oak tree. Be warned, dogs aren't permitted in the fenced area on the turf, however they are allowed in the parking lot.

It was only after pulling into the mall that I realized it was inside the food court. Normally I would've tried to find something else, but to be honest, I wasn't mad about it. Surprisingly enough, Oregon's capitol city of Salem is smaller than I'd expected before making the move. There are a couple of what used to be thriving malls that have dwindled down to host small, lesser known businesses. I grew up in the 80s when malls were the social hub and all the rage. Walking inside, I could see the adaptation to today's consumers with remnants of days gone by. Poised right by the entrance is a K-Pop store and adjacent Anime Town. The little kids play area was just as obnoxious as I remember, all screams included. Upstairs was a bungee style trampoline for bigger kids wanting a little more thrill. There was a Hot Wheels vending machine and fresh fruit dessert stand featuring the ever popular Dubai chocolate over strawberries for a mere $18 (ouch!). Perhaps it was the season, but the parking lot was packed. It was nice to see some of the favs of my youth; PacSun, Vans, and Hot Topic, and FYE. There were also some cool shops I'd never heard of. We enjoyed our lunch and had to depart with little time to spend browsing, but I really want to come back. If there was a deterrent to be mentioned, it's the 8+% tax, a significant hit when you're used to zero state tax.
