Poor customer service - arrogant and condescending manner (Ed) - failure to sell me a bike because of attitude. Too bad! I was ready to spend and wanted a new bike. I will keep looking. Worst customer service I have yet encountered after going to a number of shops around town. Update (August 26) - I found a really nice new bike - a Trek Madone - at West Point Cycles in Kerrisdale, where the staff - and the bike - really won me over. They made it easy for me. Absolutely awful store, in my experience at least, they take advantage of naive customers and provide snobby service. Got charged 20$ above msrp for a pair of pedals (three times the online price and 20$ more than every other shop) and the guy seemed to push me out of the store when I had a few questions about setting them up (first time using clipless pedals). DO NOT SHOP THERE, I cant say anything about their service department other than they offer a cheap fit session which I canceled when I found out how much my pedals were actually worth since I assume they just use it as a chance to push more overpriced product on me. I haven't bought anything here. I was looking for a Cyclocross bike - Hoping to find a last years model just before the new models came out. It didn't look like a bike store - as much as it looks like the back of a bike store with bikes, boxes and parts strewn all over the place. Looking around - the only bikes I recognized, and liked - were bikes that were apparently in for repair by other people. I want Ridley, Cannonade, Collage etc - funny thing is Speed Theory sent me here instead of helping me... Regardless - I spoke to Ed, and while I know my stuff - the way he worded his questions was like an ICBC claims adjuster - so that any answer I gave seemed wrong. It was really weird. Still - he was nice enough - and after talking to him for a bit - I got the sense that they don't just order and sell bikes there. It's more like he will order the frame, and parts and all kinds of things and assemble a custom ride for you. That's cool and all I guess. Ed is the owner. I had him do a customer build for me. In 43 years as a human and a consumer I've hands-down never had a worse customer experience. I actually signed up a Yelp account just to do this one review: Ed has a terrible rep. I found this out later, unfortunately. I will spare you the details but if you want to go to a bike shop where you're treated with contempt, lied to, stood up, it takes forever to get the job done and when you finally get your bike it's a total mess and instead of getting it fixed you get jerked around to no end? I dealt with these guys twice: once to buy some shoes and cleats and then dropped by to have them fitted with my bike. I did feel a bit intimidated at first dealing with Ed. BUT he is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff. He is definitely a blunt, no BS guy and says it like it is, I can see how this might seriously offend some people. So don't go there if you expect to hear what YOU want because you'll only hear what you NEED and SHOULD. He not only fitted the cleat and shoes (no fee since i got the parts there) but he gave me a bunch of pointers while i was there for a whole 25 minutes on training, position on the bike, groups to ride with, analogies and a few more things. I'd done a lot of shopping around before i walked into this store just out of curiosity and i already have a good feeling about it. Again, their rates compare to other bike shops around Vancouver and North Van is pretty reasonable. I will update as i use them more. 4 starts only because they have to earn the fifth one as i visit them more. I'll be honest when I first started going to mighty riders I too received the same snooty service that's been reported here but once they determined I wasn't going to ask them how to install a bell or set me up with a complete hybrid commuter for $100 they quickly lightened right up.They've built some extremely light wheels for me and set me up with frames I was after by buying the complete bike and then stripping it - a pretty time-consuming process. Their wheel work is beyond solid, just don't go if you're looking for a starter bike, that's what Bike Dr. over the street are for. By the way Bike Dr. are pretty awesome too if you need quick and dirty maintenance. read more

I agree with the reviews below. We were shopping for an entry-mid range comfort bike, and the shop rep basically chose a pink Opus bike (retailed for around $700 CDN) for my gf, which was clearly too big for her, and told her to give it a spin. She struggled to get on top of the saddle (a nice hint that it was too ****ing big for her) even when it was supposedly adjusted to her ideal height - this "sales rep" kept insisting that it's all about feel and that she should try it anyway. Obviously, he was trying to get rid of inventory without giving much of a damn. And then went on bashing department store bikes like the ones being sold by Sport Chek. Right - you got me sold buddy - good job. What a crock of shit. read more

I've read lots of negative reviews about Hawaii, about Ferraris, and I have even read a view negative reviews, about Hot Girls..with Large Sexy Implants! Go Figure? LOL But in spite of these few people, who find Fault in every facet of their lives.....I still Love Hawaii, I still Love Ferraris, and I will always Love Sexy HOT girls....who are proudly showing off, their Large Store Bought Breasts! LOL I will also always Love... Mighty Riders! Ya....on first impression, you are definitely not walking into, a Holt Renfrew or into Birks! But......none of those two places, either sell Bikes, or even work on Bikes...but....Mighty Riders is the Holt Renfrew / Birks of Bikes. I was SOLD.....on my first visual visit, to their shop. I was not there to buy....I was not there to get anything repaired....I was not there to waste their time, with idle chit chat. I just heard, from my Son.....that THIS....was the Bike Shop.... "for me"! He phoned me one day, and said..."Dad".....a found the perfect Shop, for us.....I found a Shop....that I think, that you will absolutely Love! Being from a different type of Bike back ground ( Harley's) he knew.....that I Loved Shops, that looked like Shops, the moment that you walked into them! Might Riders has that FEEL....it has the Ambiance, of being a "REAL" Bike Shop. No Frills.....No Pink Tassels, No Training wheels ( I could definitely use a set of those..."Man"!....I HATE my Clip Less Pedals! lol).....No...."Golly Gee"....."Welcome to Walmart" Greeter at the door. I just basically told him...that I was in for a quick look around.....and I was told....that I would Love his Shop! He Laughed....and said..that his Shop was definitely not for everyone out there...but...he was glad to hear...that I had heard some Good things! I was ignored the first couple times walking in to here. Finally one day when someone spoke to me, I instantly regretted it. Gave me outrageous quotes for parts I knew were available at half the quoted price. Talked to me like I had no idea what a bike was. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and down-to-earth! Every time I'm in with a question they are quick to enlighten me and I leave better educated than before. They stock some top-notch brands. I purchased a rack and a few smaller goods from them but I know that when the time comes to buy another bike, I would travel a long way to get it from Mighty Riders. read more

I bought a Surly Long Haul Trucker through them while I was still learning about bikes. They sold me the wrong size and wouldn't change the frame out when I asked them about it. Confirmed with 4 other bike shops and many other people that my bike is too small for me. During basic service they failed to tighten down the stem (I had it tight before, but during maintenance they must have loosened it) which could have turned into a very bad accident if I hadn't noticed it right away. If you're looking for touring bikes I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Very frustrating to deal with. They are well intentioned people, but just don't make the cut for quality service. read more

great place for cyclists- they do good quality repairs, have fair prices, and the mechanics are actually worth a damn. in this city (and probably most cities) bike shops generally have so much stupid attitude and cater to ripping off unknowledgeable hipsters on fixies with no helmets, but i didn't get even a whiff of that here, which i found really refreshing. this is my bike shop of choice for stuff i can't (or don't want to) do myself. read more

Have just come back from an amazing experience with Ed at Mighty Riders. I have small feet and had issues fitting cleats to my small shoe. Other bike shops told me I needed a new $300 pedal system (!). Ed found a solution and solved the issue in no time flat, for a tenth of the price. Ed was really keen to find a solution to my problem. He explained the issue and worked through the solution needed. So glad to have been recommended to come here, can't recommend this place more! read more

this is an extremely POSITIVE REVIEW of my first (of many to come) experience at this shop! long story short I was looking for a bike fit and this place was recommended to me by an avid rider friend of mine; I had done a lot of research of shops offering this service and this was on my list so after my friend's recommendation I decided on it; Ed was fantastic!! My bike fit turned into a very comprehensive, supportive, knowledge/info learning session; he really cared about my goals as a rider, gave me tips on my form and even did a body alignment assessment! he offered add-ons to my bike in case i was interested yet didn't push me on any sales; he simply suggested how they could help and if I wanted to, I could come back and he would help me install them. He showed me videos on correct cycling form, really listened to my history as a rider and to my history of pain/discomfort on my bike and went above and beyond my expectations; I am a new and true fan of this place. Don't let the small-ish and less fancy appearance of the shop deceive you as all staff there really know their stuff and are legitimately interested in helping riders and not simply doing the minimum or selling things; the clothing/apparel shop they have next door is great too for all sorts of riding goodies! surely consider Mighty riders and Ed with his many decades of experience as your next riding-needs shop! Since my review, my wife and a friend have bought bikes from Mighty Riders and their experiences have also been very positive.

So I'll throw this out there because I don't know what to think about this place. First, the sales people and mechanics come off as *completely* insufferable. If they have the chops, I don't care, I'm not a soft sell guy and prefer substance over style. But, ugh, the beer caps on the floor, and the beardy prancing that their sh!t don't stink, c'mon. You're selling steel pipes and components made by someone else, that you assemble from a manual, please get over yourselves. The bike purchase was ... OK? Certainly Ed was knowledgeable and could gauge his advice to my level of knowledge. He did seem genuinely concerned that the bike fit was OK, and worked to get components in line with my use of the bike. Not something you get at BSP or Bike Doctor. So yes, custom bits, without custom prices, without making some candyass whoopdeedoo. I liked that. HOWEVER. The bike that I bought and rode for a week and a half was incorrectly assembled. Ed somehow put a smaller adaptor than he should have for my front disc brake, but positioned in place with a dozen washers. This meant I left the store with a front brake that worked, but only because the axle was positioned way out of the dropouts and held in place by only friction and the hard slammed quick release levers . Eventually I hit a bump hard enough and slammed to a stop. Took me a half hour in the dark and the rain to sort out why the hell my brand new bike didn't work. A whack of wrenching with the multuitool thankfully I had with me, bike light in my mouth, scuffing up my brand new brake hoods (I can never have nice things). Got it sort of working enough to get it home and take to the shop. Thank god I wasn't going fast down a hill, or I would have been ass over tea kettle, and, like ... hurt. But, like, WTF??? Took it to the shop, and Ed's initial reaction was exasperation that I had f@cked something up. Let him work on it, came back and Oh, Yah, fixed. I had to ask, so... like... why? And then he did fess up that he had installed the wrong adaptor, kinda blaming the frame manufacturer. Then ... yeah, he f@cked up and couldn't explain it. ANYWAY. He was clearly chagrined, and accepted that this was not the caliber of work he expected of himself. He gave me expensive new panniers to make good on the error. I apprecieatted the gesture, and certainly in terms of value, OK, but I don't give a sh!t really. Disappointing -- the one time in 20 years I buy a new bike, and I'm wrenching on the side of the road in the dark in the rain. Of course. SO: Cocky as f@ck. Seem to care. They can f@ck up like everyone else, so don't believe the swagger. They make good on mistakes, but maybe only when they're completely busted. What rating is that??? 3??? read more
