Love this store - it is such an original place and as an interior decorator, has really filled a gap in the market for me - Johnelle can always do something original and new with my client's old furniture, updating tables, bureaus, mirrors, and best of all doing something really amazing with old sofas and armchairs. I bought a small credenza that fit my tiny entry perfectly. I also found a great, but old fashioned dining set on CL and took it to Johnelle for a refinish and reupholster job. She was such a great resource when it came to fabric. She always kept me in the loop about her timetable, and the finished pieces are outstanding. I'm new to Old Oakland and I love having such a unique shop in my backyard. The boutique sells antique pieces furniture and housewares, some tres chic new French inspired products (candles, books, purses, housewares, kids clothes, soaps, lotions), and up-and-coming local artist creations (like art on reclaimed wood, paintings, jewelry, photography). Sometimes you can catch the owner refinishing or recovering interesting pieces of furniture that would make your Parisian heart sing. If you can't get to Montmartre, get to Mignonne. read more

i procured a wonderful vintage chair here, as well as a fantastic pair of cufflinks. though stuffed to the gills with rare and unique treasures, this eccentric and quaint shoppe has every vignette styled with charm and finding that long sought after piece is bound to happen here. i drive by regularly and the chairs in the loft windows first caught my attention then i noticed the ever changing window displays and just had to check it out. friendly staff and it seems if you tell them what you are looking for they will let you know when one comes in no matter the item. they have lots of furniture and lots of smaller items such as vintage dish ware and glasses. the jewelry case near the register housed many custom pieces, all worth wearing but the cufflinks were all i needed. i will continue to check back because it seems the inventory is constantly changing. it's a wonderland of vintage ephemera and several new articles you may not find anywhere else. oh, and lots of local arts and crafts are represented too! read more

I drove by this wonderful little store, and just by chance they were having a client appreciation sale, so i decided to stop in. I guess it was fate or just luck they were having a pot luck party, so i was able to eat and shop!!! Woo hoo!!! I met the owner of the store who was such a doll, she explained the purpose of the party was also to promote the idea of re-using things that are already in our earth. Instead of buying new things that are shipped to us (which require fuel) to buy things that already exist in our neighborhoods. I really enjoyed the whole experience, Jonelle even helped be pick and choose different pieces of furniture for different rooms in my apartment, She even customizes pieces! Mignonne is a such a gem in Oakland. I love that there is a mix of old and new. Her antiques are really well priced and well merchandised in the store. Lots of pretty things: candles, linens, furniture, personal care, dishes, lots of glasses and paper products. Johnelle is definitely great at getting very hard to find items, like an old medicine bottle from France. And yes, you're thinking, how cute can that be.....it's actually really cute. If you're in the hood, you should come by, if not, you should come on down. Then stop over by Drift and pick up some jeans! read more

This place is great! There are always new and interesting pieces of furniture that can brighten up the normalcy of anyone's tired or drab rooms. All it takes is one or two really rad things to make a great space and this spot is an awesome local business which produces these such works. I think the owner Johnelle does such a great job in working with every type of customer; the well crafted designs she creates within either (or both), your budget savvy looking glass, or strict style restrictions, are always remarkable. It is certainly not something just anyone can do and definitely difficult to be done with matched grace. That being said, if you have a more flexible budget or less rigid style restrictions and trust her style, you're in for a real treat! She can scout for and find just about anything you can think of for your room; she can make your old and tired furniture look new, fun, modern, and tactful. So if you have held off on getting that old dresser fixed, that room redesigned, or need to find those special pieces that make your house shine check this place out! I'm very pleased with the service I received from Mignonne Decor in November 2014. Knowledgeable and pleasant staff, great color ideas, great sense of style, and excellent results. I purchased a vintage 1960's footstool from Etsy. I loved it, except that the cushioning was thin, so my heels hurt when I rested my feet on it for more than a half hour. I took it to Mignonne Decor to install more cushioning. This required replacement of the upholstery, since it wasn't possible to increase the cushioning and preserve the original upholstery. I found both Johnelle and her assistant (sorry, I forgot her name) easy to communicate with. They were able to reduce the price by using good-quality leather remnants for the new upholstery. The assistant took me up to the upstairs office and together we searched through the remnant piles, from which I eventually chose one remnant in cream yellow for the body, and another in light gray for the piping. The total cost was $130 for labor and materials. The wait time was six weeks. Mignonette Decor made special mention on the work order that increasing the cushioning is the entire purpose of the job, which I really appreciated, since I did not want the to be overlooked. I've had my new footstool now for about two months and I'm very happy with it. The cushioning is perfect, and it looks great. Mignonne Decor is not cheap, but it is probably not expensive compared with other businesses, either. It is well worth every penny, especially if you need help to come up with a look that is unique, urban, and playful. read more

I love this store! Unique furniture, house wares, textiles and rug selection. I purchased some very nice throw pillows here and I love stopping in periodically to browse. I discovered on their website that they do custom restorations and custom built furniture as well. I really wanted to figure out a way to get more storage space in my house and I worked with Johnelle and Brian to design and build a floor to ceiling custom built in storage unit with a combination of shelving, drawers, and cabinets. People always think it was an original built-in that came with the house! It has given us a ton of super efficient extra storage space. Going into the project, I had a general of idea of what I wanted, but Johnelle and Brian helped us brainstorm and make several decisions, and they also added certain subtle details that I never would have thought of myself and ended up being really important to the overall look - I think it's actually those small details that differentiate a really awesome looking piece of furniture from something more generic looking. It was a pleasure working with Johnelle and Brian and I'm just so thrilled with the final result. Highly recommend both the store and their custom furniture and design services. read more

I visited this store because I recently bought a piece of furniture that I want to have refinished. I went in and was greeted by a salesperson and I told her about my project, and that I wanted the furniture to have a shiny finish, perhaps with some kind of lacquer. She promptly told me that they couldn't do this. I should check with an auto body shop because they were equipped to do a spray finish. This seemed like overkill to me since I have seen examples of what I want all over DIY blogs. So, I asked her if she could show me an example in their store of what they could do. She pointed to a chest that had a shabby-chic finish. Hmm, pretty much the opposite of what I had in mind. Surely they could do better than that? Okay, no big deal. Then, she walks into the other room. I'm thinking that she is going to show me something else. But no, apparently she wanted to sit down and do something else. She sits at a table with another employee and picks up some papers. Wait...I had another question....so, I ask about their experience upholstering furniture with non-flame retardant treated foam. She says that they can do it for a chair, but for a sofa it is a bad idea, because the latex foam will not last more than 1 year before breaking down. Huh? I recently bought a latex foam mattress with a 30 year warranty....so why couldn't they use that kind of foam? Then, she proceeds to tell me that "unless you have had a problem with flame retardants, there is really nothing to worry about." WHAT? Last I heard they caused cancer. Oh yes, might I add that I was holding my infant daughter as she said this to me. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

I worked with Johnelle earlier this year on a few pieces for my daughter's nursery. I stopped in the first time out of sheer curiousity, as I had driven by a few times and wanted to take a look at what was inside such a cute storefront. I had bought a 1930's dresser from a shop in Martinez that we were going to double as a changing table, but the 'nursery' is actually a dining room and quite large, so I needed a few extra vintage-style pieces. to complete the space. Johnelle had a side table in stock that was ready to be refurbished. So, I brought her a swatch of fabric from the nursery bedding and we worked together on a paint color. I knew we also needed a coffee table. After emailing back and forth with a few ideas, I found a great piece on Craigslist. I brought it into Johnelle and we again picked a complimentary color. Both pieces came out exactly as discussed and look perfect in the nursery! She completed things to the timeline we agreed upon up-front. AND loaded them in my car! Both pieces were in the nursery 3 days before the baby was born! :) I appreciated that even though my needs weren't necessarily going to bring in the big dollars for the year, she gave me the attention as if I were spendign thousands. I enjoyed working with Johnelle and wouldn't hesitate to go to her again for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. read more
