Our experience with C&M was ideal. We had pillows created from chosen fabrics as well as fabrics we brought in. The results were perfect. The quality of craftsmanship was excellent and done in a timely manner. We returned and ordered wooden blinds for seven windows in our home. We did the measuring and installation ourselves, but the results are spectacular! We love them. C&M were responsive and attentive in all the right ways. Lisa and Carlos are friendly, obliging, and know their products quite well. We love the fact that they are a small local business not dealing with numbers, but face to face interaction. We will certainly use them in the future for any upholstery, window, or pillow needs. It is obvious they care about quality and craftsmanship. Several months ago I took some brand new couch seat cushions into Carlos. I had ordered the couch (an expensive one) with very firm seat cushions, but the couch came with very soft, squishy seat cushions. Carlos was able to add new firmer foam into the body of each seat cushion. They are now perfect! Carlos is so nice and friendly to local customers. I highly recommend his service. read more

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with C&M. I brought in a set of mid-century modern danish chairs I found on craigslist to be reupholstered. Though the manager was nice to work with, the price was great, and the turn around very fast, the actual job done was of extremely low quality. Protruding uneven staples could be seen and, even worse, felt on the bottom of the upper back of the chairs such that picking the chairs up to move them could cause cuts to people's hands. On the seats of the chairs the padding was much, much too thick for the style of the pieces, and the fabric was not sufficiently tight so that the look was uneven and lumpy. Mid-century modern furniture is not supposed to be overstuffed! I had to take the chairs to another place to have the problems fixed, since I didn't want them back in the hand of these folks. Though I fault myself for not doing a good job of researching potential upholsterers who would have better knowledge of how to deal with this style of furniture, I was shocked at the lack of any attention to detail or quality. I wouldn't recommend this merchant to anyone. read more

We have had several things upholstered over the years with satisfactory results! The last was a outdoor 2seater swing with overhead canopy. It was done about 5 years ago by Amaral Co. We covered the expensive swing covering every year with a high quality outdoor cover during the winter. Last summer the canopy began to tear at the seams and we brought it in to what is now C&M to have it repaired. They simply sewed over the existing seams which tore open when we tried to put it back on the swing. We returned it and asked for a better repair. After waiting weeks for their sewer to return from vacation they repeated the same repair, sewing the existing seams tighter. By not opening the seams and putting a backing on the splitting seams the fabric had been diminished so that putting the canopy back on was impossible. I think this workmanship was shoddy and do not recommend them. read more

Thank you C&M Upholstery - Carlos, Lisa and your whole team, you're great! We just moved to Alameda bringing with us some old (much loved!) furniture. Carlos did a beautiful job on all of it. He knows furniture and let us know that one of our chairs was designed originally to have a certain kind of cushion (it had been modified over time) and so he was able to take our chair back to the way it should be! When I searched around the Bay Area for an upholsterer - the cost quotes I kept getting made me uncomfortable - I was going to have one chair done then wait a long time to save up for the next and was giving up on the idea of getting the couch done at all... But then I found C&M - they are really so reasonable! And we are already working on our third piece! While their work is careful and precise, they're also pretty quick - and totally customer focussed - they got my dining chairs done in time for Thanksgiving (without much help from me bringing them in November!) C&M reupholstered our Mission-style loveseat and side chair. They were super helpful in choosing fabrics. They have a great selection, and gave us guidance about which fabric would be most suitable. We spent maybe an hour in the store, looking at possibilities, and they let us take samples home. They sent a crew to pick up our furniture and to return it when it was done. We are really excited about how nice it looks, and what a good job they did. Carlos centered the pattern on the pillows exactly right. The seams are all tight and straight. He looked at our old pillows and said the stuffing was in good enough shape that he didn't need to replace it, saving us some money. They also repaired the underside of the loveseat.
