I decided to check Facebook for inspectors closer to the area, and the word of mouth about WIN Home Inspection was excellent. So, I reached out to get a quote from them. The price was very competitive. On the day of the inspection, the inspectors, Steve and Daniel, arrived a little early. They divided the work, and although it took some time to complete, it was clear they were very thorough and attentive to detail. They were friendly and respectful throughout the entire process. They didn't try to upsell any additional services. We asked about adding a radon test, and they matched the price our realtor had mentioned. Both inspectors were very knowledgeable. Even before sending the official report, they pointed out any major issues as well as smaller items I could handle myself. The report arrived quickly, by the end of the day. It was very detailed, full of photos, and included helpful tips. Their service also includes a warranty for anything that wasn't identified as a problem during the inspection. My realtor was impressed with their work and asked for their contact information, as she wants to recommend them as well. I definitely recommend them for a home inspection. For reference, I have purchased another home in a different state in the past, and that inspection report wasn't nearly as complete as the one they provided.

We could not take possession until the first week in September. After we moved in, I heard noises from the fireplace. We contacted an exterminator who told us that a colony of bats had inhabited our attic for at least a year because of the quantity of bat droppings in the entire attic. And because of the quantity of bat droppings, we must have the attic cleaned, and all of the insulation has to be replaced. All of this is costly and left us feeling very dissatisfied with the home inspection. Looking back, we recalled that Art had inspected the attic. You would think that any signs of bat activity during a home inspection, would be noted in the home inspectors report and that they might suggest a review by a qualified pest control specialist. Art was contacted and said that he would call back on Friday to let me know what time on Monday he would be able to come back and look at what was found. No callback was done until Monday which by then an appointment was made to have the entries and exits repaired so that the bats could leave but return therefore Art would not have been able to see for himself. When Art did callback on Monday all he could say was "I wish you would have waited." Why Art so more bats can come into the house? I hate giving bad reviews especially when the person was very nice, but I feel that if I would have known about this issue, I would have negotiated a better price or had the problem taken care of before the purchase of the home.

So, our furnace has been working harder and more frequently to keep the house adequately heated for the past several winters. We finally got fed up of this lack of additional barrier between us and the cold outside. I was inspired by Consumers Energy offering a rebate check when insulation is upgraded by an approved vendor. I found AEE as the only Gold-star rated, licensed and insured installer in my area and approved by Consumers Energy. They earned their stars and stripes. I set up a free quote with the straight to the point and knowledgeable company owner, John. He explained his recommendations for adding about 11-12in.of fiberglass/wool blend blow-in insulation into the entire attic for a total of 17-18in., as well as having his field manager and caulk expert Mark seal all our windows and doors. He left me with a competitive quote and let me take long as I wanted to think on it and get other quotes. After a few quotes - my gut instinct gravitated me to AEE. I wanted to 'Art of the Deal' a bit with John to bring his quote closer to another competitor's. He was fair in working with me. We struck a deal. His 2-man insulation team came to our home around 10am and worked until about 4-5pm thoroughly insulating my attic. His field manager and caulking expert Mark did a great job sealing all the windows and doors for air leaks in a matter of 1-2 hours tops. They went above and beyond my expectations and were honest fellows. At one point when they realized they slightly undershot the amount of product needed for the job - they went and got more product to complete the job. John was a man of his word - he honored the contract without trying to work in the marginal unforeseen product and labor. They were thoughtful enough to blow some extra insulation into the space above our toddler's bedroom - which is definitely the problem area with our climate control. The workers used slip covers on their shoes and used towels to keep hoses from damaging walls. They vacuumed and cleared all waste after their work. Fast forward a week, and I will tell you that this was one of the best upgrades we have done for our home. The disparity in climate and cold drafts in different areas of our home is way better now. Upstairs is improved, the den stays toastier now, and the kitchen side of our house now holds heat better. A marked difference in the radiant heat comfort throughout the house. It is no placebo effect. The furnace is able to drive the temp up quicker, then the temp holds better and drops slower. So the furnace does not have to stay on as long of duration, and the interim between it firing up has increased. Savings on gas, and less wear and tear on the furnace too! Wish I had done this back when we bought the home. Better late than never. Highly recommend AEE. Just follow the simple steps I detailed above, get the work done, and get that rebate. You will have a top notch upgrade, at a great bottom line price. Two thumbs up!

I had an extensive energy audit performed, indoor air quality check, insulation installed, window caulking, rim joist seal/insulation, thermometer replacement, and various other home improvements. This was after the cost vs. benefit was explained to me with the supporting data. Once everything was completed, they walked me through the utility company rebate and tax credit process to ensure I received the full benefit of all work performed. Ultimately, I made money from the inspection and walked away with a house that was significantly more energy efficient with lower utility bills. It's a shame that it's so rare to find great companies with great people nowadays. AEE (John and Mark in particular) were super professional, friendly, polite, and extremely knowledgeable. It was an absolute pleasure working with them and I was able to learn quite a bit. These guys are not your typical salesmen, they are subject matter experts and come with only the highest of recommendation from me!
