I had the perfect occasion to order a delivery today as I had been stuck in the house for more than several hours being on the company-wide web meeting. After browsing on some well-known delivery app, I simply couldn't think of anything else but Japanese food from one of the trusted restaurants namely Mika Sushi 5!!! They were doing BOGO deals on selected items where I found Spicy Salmon rolls which I could order in the form of hand roll. I, of course, wanted more than that so I got me the Avocado Salad and a few different nigiris (one piece each; Yellowtail and Black Pepper Tuna to name them). Since it was through a delivery service I can't speak about the service and or cleanliness of the restaurant but I can say that the order was accurate where I got everything I ordered. Mika Sushi doesn't disappoint, I mean ever. The two one-piece nigiris were a quality kind; I especially liked the Yellowtail. The BOGO Spicy Salmon hand rolls were well-portioned in size (and were delicious). As for the salad, the avocado slices on the lettuce were plenty and nicely ripe and soft. The ginger carrot dressing (staple for a house salad at any Japanese sushi restaurant) was such a nice accompaniment to it. The waitress was super welcoming and gave me some minutes to look everything over but, did offer assistance with any questions. I recently withdrew my negative review of this restaurant. I returned almost a year later to give it another try, and boy am I glad I did. My bad experience was due to an employee that was rude and unwelcoming. The owner reached out to me personally and acknowledged my bad experience, they said they understood my complaint and would make the necessary changes. At my recent visit I experienced a complete 180. The staff is friendly, helpful, and they gave good recommendations. The sushi is fresh and delicious. The decor is colorful and fun. Mika Sushi 5 is located in the same shopping center as Whole Foods. Don't let any of the map apps point you in the wrong direction. Once you pull in and are facing Whole Foods, look to your right and it is right there. With that said, let's dive into the entire experience. Super solid place for ambiance (date night even!), great food and excellent service. They even have music playing too which makes the outing even more enjoyable. I'm not too big a fan of neon lights but it is befitting for this experience. All my rolls, hamachikama (yellowtail collar), salad, etc came out at the right times. I never had to request for refills for water and they even asked if I wanted more beer which surprisingly some places don't do that! I'm just not sure where they get their ponzu sauce for the hamachikama. It tasted more sour so I'm not if that is their style or it was just a one off. Still, it wouldn't deter me from ordering it again. Just a personal preference. The tuna handroll was amazing! Full of fish and equally balanced with rice along with crispy nori. Waitstaff was awesome too. Not only did they make suggestions but they went as far as letting me know which fish was more fresh so I went ahead and ordered those. I would make a trip out here again. What we ordered was the Beef Negimaki ( scallion wrapped in beef), Evil Angel roll (shrimp tempura, jalapeños, cream cheese, crab meat, and eel sauce).sashimi deluxe dinner, fatty tuna, and Mika fried rice ( shrimp, chicken, veggies, crab meat). The beef enigmatic was way overcooked. The beef was dry, and hard to chew. Definitely was overcooked. The evil angel roll was good. It was well balanced with flavor and texture was good. The fatty tuna was okay but it didn't seem very fresh. The sashimi plate also didn't seem very fresh. And the presentation was lacking. The fried rice was also okay, but was bland. Overall, we weren't impressed with the food. The price on the dishes was average, but the food was below average. With so many sushi places in the Denver area, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I had the the pleasure of ordering food from here within a few days of it opening. I spent $120 here so we could try a little bit of everything to see if this could be our new local sushi spot and we ended up throwing half of the food in the trash because it tasted bad and smelled off. However, my order was carry out. Maybe they treat you better if you dine in. It could have just been some opening week issues but I haven't gone back since the first time.
