Ringing in my birthday with some sushi
Nina C.

Came here for a quiet date night and was happy to see they closed a little later than many other places in the area. We walked in at almost 9 PM and decided to sit at the sushi bar, it was clean and inviting, there were only a couple of other people there. The server was super attentive, greeting us instantly, answering all my questions and giving some much needed recommendations We decided to start with the spicy edamame. I also asked her to bring out a side of the garlic dipping sauce, normally served with a different appetizer. It was really good and fresh, not really spicy, but still yummy We decided to split a few rolls, one I can't remember the name of, but the Kiss of fire was really good, genuinely spicy with the jalapeño on top. My favorite was the snow on the mountain - the different flavors and textures paired so well together. Everything was super fresh and the ingredients were authentic. Prices are not bad at all, most rolls around $20. Would totally come back.

Chirashi Bowl *

This might have been the best fish I've had in Denver so far. I have a gluten sensitivity and they had tamari sauce (gluten free soy sauce alternative) so I knew we were in good hands. I got the Chirashi Bowl and my husband got the sashimi regular. Service was quick and our waitress was very nice. The restaurant was clean and simple.

Decent sushi and quick friendly service. Nothing fancy but everything tasted fresh and we food happhour hand rolls and appetizers- tempura was a little greasy and the crab cheese wontons were all cream cheese.

Great ambiance when you enter. See photos. They're actually open on Sundays even though the sign says otherwise. The sushi in one word, AWESOME!!!!! I tried the low carb rolls and they used cucumber as the wrap with no rice. The Lollipop roll was my favorite by far. I've never had sushi like that. The Denver bomb was great too but not quite as good. Service was top notch as well. My only negative was the cost. It thought it was a little pricey.

Sashimi entree, spicy tuna roll, Yama roll

I was craving sushi and decided to pop into Aki with my husband one afternoon. The interior is elevated but with a casual vibe. We noticed that they have happy hour everyday which is a nice option. We were greeted immediately and ordered a Sapporo and purple sake. I need to mention that I just adored the stackable set the sake is served in. We started with shumai and it was so fluffy and crispy. My husband ordered the sashimi entree and I ordered the Yama roll with a spicy tuna. We had the miso soup which had so much umami. The sashimi entree comes with soup and salad and I tried some of the salad. The dressing was so flavorful and creamy you could tell it was house made. I've been to places before that unfortunately use bottled dressing and it's a huge difference. My sushi had perfectly cooked and seasoned rice. The fish on the entree was so fresh, it melted in your mouth. I wanted to get dessert, but we were so full afterward, the portions are very generous!

Walked in for lunch. Was seated right away. Ordered the sushi regular and was very good. The toro nigiri was fresh and very good. The pink lady roll was very good. Definitely a go-to for casual sushi dining.

It was one of those nights: visit at Swedish hospital for an entire day and the only place still opened at night that was nearby was Aki Sushi. Parking was plenty to the side of the building and we entered from the back. As soon as we walked in we felt welcomed. And although we didn't order a whole lot, we finished everything! House salad was refreshing and it woke me up like a cup of coffee which I wouldn't have at night! Fantastic Dragon Roll was fantastic! Hubby knows how much I like good imitation crab, sometimes even more than real crab, lol. This role was doused in shreds of them, I was so happy! The Seafood ramen almost sent us to an argument. I thought he was going to get the traditional ramen, you know, the kind with a marinated egg and pork belly, in a thick creamy soup. But he went for the seafood option thinking that's what I wanted! As soon as we tasted it, though, both of us shut up. It was pretty hearty, and well flavored. It warmed up my body and mind after a long day of at an unpleasant setting. For this, I'll forever remember Aki Sushi!

Spider-Man Roll & 3484 Roll

Came here for a casual date night and had a great time! There's a back parking lot for this restaurant. Because we live in a landlocked state, sushi is not usually a go-to for me. However, I would go back to this spot! There's a lot on the menu to choose from. The service was good and we were seated quickly.

We travel to Denver once a year (Alaskan, and BIG SUSHI lovers) and always try new sushi spots when we arrive. This year we stumbled upon a Reddit post for "best food in Denver 2024" and Aki Sushi was mentioned multiple times by multiple redditors who said that no other sushi spot has held up since trying Aki, it's the best they had. I have to say, they were right. We can't believe how amazing it was. The sashimi was so fresh, so flavorful, so tender it was like biting into soft buttery heaven. The speciality rolls were perfect as well, it was just an incredible experience. We joked we don't know if we can try other sushi places now since it has always been a risk/reward chance before, but finding what feels like the holy grail.... Why keep looking? 5 stars, hands down.

The only good sushi spot I have found since moving from Portland a year ago- it's hard to find a balance out here in the mountains between super high priced fish (from being flown in) and fish that is not too old. This place is good ! Worth going to.

Decent sized rolls however I didn't like they put sauces on top of them. The appetizers were tasty and prices are average, definitely they use fresh fish.

I ordered the heart attack roll, it came out 20 minutes after everything else to the point we thought it had been forgotten. It is important to note this is advertised as an "appetizer roll". We had already finished everything by the time it came out. It was very bland. Our server forgot 2 separate items we asked for, even after we asked again. We were the only ones in there - how could you forget? I also ordered the vegetarian fried rice, but it had chicken in it. The rice was clearly old. The soy sauce on the table was empty. They were nice, though. Everything was clean. Miso soup was good. Sweet and sour soup was good. But everything else was inedible and abysmal. They have some happy hour specials, which is nice, but they weren't very interesting. I ordered a nice 300ml bottle of sake, which should come chilled, and it was decidedly room temperature. The server did bring out an ice bucket to put it in, but it was way too late to chill the bottle. I scoured the menu for specialty rolls that didn't come with loads of gloopy sauces on top and didn't find any. I really despise Americanized sushi rolls that are covered in sauce, but I ordered 2 of the more appetizing-looking ones along with the new style sashimi and salmon sashimi. The new style sashimi was described as coming with cilantro (which is how it usually comes) but there was no cilantro in sight and instead they were covered in copious amounts of jalapeños. The cuts were also pretty butchered, particularly given the cost. The rolls were palatable, but entirely too big for my mouth, which just makes eating a bit like choking. I did receive a small complimentary dessert, which was decently tasty. The server was very friendly, but he sort of forgot about me in the end. With all these things in consideration, I probably won't be back. given the location, I would choose Makizushico for dinner over JP Nori every time.

As I was pondering to see if I should go to more of a sit-down restaurant, Asuka's quick poke bowl sounded like a much better choice so I rushed the one on Broadway between the gym and yoga. I stepped in to be greeted by the lady in charge of the kitchen and the register. She was still finishing up the guest ahead of me but once she was done she came to take my order. I went with the Build-Your-Own bowl. The lady was efficient in asking me which ingredients I would want for my nutrient-rich bowl. She was wasting no time and effort and yet she wasn't rushing to get rid of me either (LOL!!) She sounded like she is/was used to handling a long line of people but never forgets/forgot the routine of good service. Once my bowl was perfectly crafted, she had a quick and yet genuine thank you to say. She then moved on to the next person in line. By then there were several people in line. Once I had paid I took the time to look at the interior decorations. And they are quite cute! The umbrella decors on the ceiling are one of them to mention. The dining area is not big and yet it can hold a good number of guests. Quite tidy and clean indeed. Between the location down the street from my house on Yosemite and this one, this location is quite more lively. The Yosemite location seemed a bit smaller than this one. Let's talk the quality of the bowl! Very fresh! From the crunchy cucumber pieces that snapped as I ate it to protein (salmon and tofu) to al the fixings that topped the bowl, everything tasted surprisingly and refreshingly delicious. I wouldn't necessarily say that it tasted exactly like the authentic poke bowls I experienced in Hawaii only a few months ago, Asuka is a solid (chain) place I can go and grab a bowl with no compromise. I have come to appreciate this place very much.

While the rolls all sounded great, we opted for an omakase experience. It is priced at market value, so I imagine this could vary over time, but they had three tiers for omakase, which I thought were all fairly priced for the amount of food included. We opted for the highest tier, which was $120 pp, and it was incredibly filling with high quality cuts of fish and a thoughtfully curated menu. The sushi chef who took care of us was incredibly kind, and it was clear he put a lot of care into the food he prepared. If you're on the fence, hop off and make that reservation and come hungry for the omakase experience!

The only reason why I know about this restaurant is because a gift card I got, which listed Sushi Basho as one of the restaurants I can use my card. When entering the door, diners are greeted by a big aquarium. It's actually a great way to stare at the tank and its creatures while waiting to be seated. A table of 8 was arranged and set for us, and in a couple of minutes, we were escorted to our table. Colorado can be brutal in the winter, and this evening, sitting right near the door, I felt chills each and every time the front door was open. However, the heat from the above heater did keep me warm every now and then. As we looked at the menu, I realized there are a lot of options for us to choose. If one doesn't like sushi, they can order some other types of food including their dinner boxes, which a friend and I decided to do. My dinner box came with a small side salad, a choice of miso or hot and sour soup, and the main meal box. Other friends ordered various types of sushi, boiled fish, and a bowl of pork katsu. All enjoyed their food and said they would go back again to eat here. My box meal contained rice, 4 pieces of coconut shrimp, gyoza, a variety of tempura including shrimp and taro, and the main star of the box: salmon with vegetables. Everything was delicious and I did eating everything, but the taro tempura was so good! Perfectly cooked to where, when bitten, it was crunchy on the outside and had great texture inside. It's hard to describe it, and my suggestion is to ask them to prepare one or two taro tempura so that you can have the same eating experience. I was very happy to be able to enjoy a great meal here. I would come back another day and try one of their lunch specials. My grade is a B+.

It's a sad sight of animal abuse when you walk in and sets the tone for what's to come. Dirty plates, staff couldn't care less, and decor that looks like it hasn't been updated since the early 2000s just sealed the deal. Only decent thing? The hot sake--clean, crisp, and clearly the only thing being properly maintained in the entire place. Never again.
