Stopped in for nachos the other day, hadn't had them in years. They used to be one of my favorite things. Guess they have changed how they make them, like forgetting to put much meat on there. If you are wanting lots of beans, some cheese and bbq sauce and chips then these are the nachos for you!! What a huge disappointment!!! I'm not from that part of the country and was driving through Poplar Bluff at opening time one Friday. The reviews were very positive, so I drove a bit out of my way to find Mike & Zack's, which was a bit of a hole in the wall, nearly always a good sign for me. I was the first customer of the day as the door was locked when I tried to enter. Must say I was a bit disappointed. For the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, there was an upgrade to more meat, which I did. I ordered baked beans as my side. Well, the upgrade to large was surprisingly small. The beans came in an extremely small container. There was one choice of sauce, which was OK, but I like a little more kick. Couldn't eat two bites of the sandwich as they were gristle. The decorations with all their awards was impressive. Maybe it was because it was so early in the day, but the bar was set pretty low. read more

Great pulled pork sandwich!!!!!!!! Traveling through, saw they had were highly rated so we dropped in for lunch. We made a great choice!! The people working here were super nice and helpful! We did not have time to sit down and get some of the ribs that were on special BUT the ribs smelled delicious and looked perfect! We got 2 sandwiches to go and were very happy. Holy Barbecue! These guys know how to bring it !!!! They have a 4.50 Thursday Sandwich that makes a person scream! It was loaded and had coleslaw on top. Was so big , I grabbed a fork and ate it open face. The sauce was incredible! Not too much so that you could taste just the perfect amount of smoked seasoning on that magical meat. Two weeks in Poplar Bluff means I am eating a lot of barbeque. This is a very small restaurant with limited seating. The service was very quick and the server was polite. I had ribs with potato salad and cole slaw. There is a sign in the restaurant that says something about good food not being cheap and cheap food not being good. This barbeque is not cheap, the portions are small, especially the side dishes, and the barbeque is just OK. I left hungry, which is not good. read more

Family Pack, Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Chopped Pork, or BBQ Pork. We had a huge container of pulled pork. Like 4lbs if it I think. It was expensive, but no more than expected for such a large order. The food was hot it was perfect! The only complaint of any at all was the fact that they don't include the buns with the pulled pork or even if you get a family pack you still don't get any buns. I think with any family pack or large orders like mine was that you should get at least 2 packs of buns for free it should be included in the cost of the meal itself with a family pack and with every lb of pulled pork you should get 1 pack of buns for free per lb. Just my opinion but other than that it was downright the best place to get any bbq in town hands down. read more

I was close to this place and said lets give it a try. It is small clean and when you walk in you smell smoke. Father and son were friendly. I had the half rack with beans and potato salad. See picture that I will post later. The ribs had a coating of caramelized rub and looked good. The ribs were cold and dry with flakey meat which was strange. No smoke flavor at all WTF. The beans were of a cheap can quality with bits of the BBQ pork in them like that makes them famous. The potato said was off the shelf. This was like are you for real BBQ. The mc rib is better. They have their dry rub on the table in a shaker so I put some in my hand and it was tasty so I took some to go. The sauce on the table taster like watered Down A1. Good thing I went to Pappys in St Louis which is on the way and is the holy grail of BBQ ribs. Over all this place is no effort BBQ but its the best thing there I guess. read more

The service was great but it would be better to take your food with you. The place was very small and lots of people moving about. The beef was great had a great smoky flavor the nachos were also a good deal for the money. Meh, stopped by on a Saturday early evening, met by two uninspired countermen. Saw in here and on chalk board their 'World Champion' moniker. I'm not sure who the competitors are in SE Missouri but this was a pretty pedestrian 1/2 rack of ribs, so so baked beans and cole slaw that seemed to have been stored in the fridge a couple days over 'best by' date. Ribs themselves seemed soggy, sauce kinda thin, mostly vinegar based. You can do better read more
