This is exactly what we wanted on the way to St Louis. Close to Hwy 67, not a chain, and great food. The burgers are a good size, but I wouldn't call them huge. The size, mustard and chopped onions reminded me of Sonic, only better quality. Fries were standard but were cooked just right for us. I tried the pink lemonade and it was very good. It's not refillable but worth it to me. The cokes are refillable and have a lot of choices. We decided not to try dessert here because the burgers and fries were filling enough. This is an OLD SCHOOL FANTASTIC place to eat! Do yourself a favor and stop by a place that has been doing it the same way for over 75yrs! I got a double cheese (which is two patties pressed together) and absolutely delicious! The hospitality here was second to none. They are super nice and take good care of you. They are famous for their pink lemonade that they make handmade and is almost like an icee but much better. Despite its name this is a diner style sit-down restaurant off the main drag in a residential area. And, despite the World's Best BBQ sign over the front door, the pulled pork sandwich was very good. The mid-week lunch platter included the sandwich, French fries, and creamy Cole slaw. Pork was chopped, smoky and juicy on a toasted bun served southern style with Cole slaw over sweet BBQ sauce. I would for sure drive out of my way any day for the "BEST PINK LEMONADE " On the planet and they have it hands down!!!! I'm a addict for sure. But then we must decide about the food. We ordered a famous steak burger, it was like a good outside grill burger but small. The burger was the thickness of Mc'Ds cheeseburger and any ole bun. Nothing that would drive you out of the way. It was over 6.00 and you got choice of sides. I got tater tots. Same as freezer ones. Honey got , their famous " chopped barbecue ham with slaw" sandwich. This gets sadly no positive review , it had no flavor at all and when you add bar barbecue sauce which was a bottle on table. It was like eating sauce with a filler between bun. Very disappointed!!! He said awesome fries! And again loved Lemonade which we will go back for but will skip the grill as overpriced. Final word, the girls working there are as nice as anyone could ask for. Says "Worlds Best Bar B Que" over the entry door, they only need to change one word to be correct. Description on menu states it's smoked bone in ham (so not pork shoulder) that is mixed with their bbq sauce when prepared; should say the driest and most tasteless meat available. Some chopped, some sliced, thrown on a bun. Not the least bit smokey, very dry, worst bbq I have ever tried. Needs to be a warning about bone added, not a little, but large chunks! We stopped on the basis of Yelp reviews and were happy with our choice. The friendly karaoke singing manager was a joy as she navigated a busy lunchtime. I had the steak burger that was the kind that arrived with some of the crispies from the grill...yum. Pink lemonade that had some kick to it, fried cauliflower and slaw. The slaw was a little too chopped for my taste but was well flavored. Husband had a "tasty" bbq sandwich and tots. There was was an interesting back story of the place which they shared in a little newspaper on all of the tables - I always enjoy that personal touch. The place was very clean. I thought the prices were good - we spent $13 for lunch for two. I had the Steak burger and hubby tried the BBQ sandwich special. The menu says smoked ham (normally not his favorite), but hubby liked it anyway - it was certainly different than he expected. They also have a spicier BBQ sauce if you ask for it. I thought the burger I had was very good. The only negative was that they were out of milk so we couldn't try their milkshakes. read more

I'm going to go all out and give this place the 5 stars it deserves. First thing is first. The service I have received at this place has always been fantastic (and every time I'm anywhere near Poplar Bluff, I stop in. Sometimes I have gone out of my way just to hit this town for Hayden's). I have seriously considered offering many of these staff members a job in a town far, far away from Missouri because they were so incredible. The lemonade is something to write home about. It is so good that I actually purchased the giant gallon jug to refill my cup on the road trip last time I stopped into Hayden's. The BBQ is also excellent and so are the sides. I think this is the only place In town to eat. No idea how it's rated so high but maybe those trying it have never had good food before. I'm not saying it was horrible, it's typical diner food but nothing I will ever remember. Fries are gross, don't think anything there is hand breaded and the menu can be confusing. They call everything with a side a plate even if it has one side or two sides. I specifically wanted just a salad and my youngest wanted chicken strips and fries so I got a chicken plate that came with fries, a salad and bread and then on their specials board they had a chicken plate for cheaper with a drink, I asked her if they were exactly the same and she said yes and then I said so it comes with everything that that one does and she said yes but with a drink and it was cheaper so I asked for that one well upon receiving my order I asked her what kind of salad dressing they had and she looked confused so I said for my salad and she said you didn't get one but i thought you said it came with everything that one did and she said no and then looked at me with an oh well look. So I was able to enjoy one chicken strip and couldn't even choke down a dry fry that tasted microwaved. read more

Perfect! Chopped ham has a nice smoke flavor sauce is balanced and the toasted bun never got soggy (just the right amount of sauce ) crispy fries as well. The lemonade can be gotten made with splenda instead of sugar and was quite tasty. I would love to have a place like this at home. read more
