I have been into Mike's a few times now and every time I have been helped by the nicest and extremely knowledgeable staff. I am a hobby photographer and I have been trying to up my game but I am still not super comfortable using manual mode, the gentleman who helped me was great, sometimes camera people/photographers will you make you feel stupid for not using manual but he was very helpful and kind and we picked out a great option for me. This is a wonderful store. The employees are kind, helpful and educated. The prices are reasonable and on par with shopping online. And, the customer service is top notch. I just recently purchased a Nikon Z9 for my father. Jeff, the manager, went out of his way to help with anything we needed. They even gave us a good price on his old camera and lenses. My uncle first recommended Mike Crivello's when I first moved to Milwaukee. The decor is on point, a photography/camera store, you go in for what they're selling, and they're selling a passion for photography. Everyone there is always helpful and friendly. Used camera equipment is always fairly priced, in excellent condition. I had prints made up last week, the price was quick and easy and can be done online. The results were beautiful and loads better than a non-camera store. If you care about your work and care about your memories, don't mess around with department stores and especially not pharmacies. I had to go here after best buy screwed me over with camera products and ran me all around wi for incompatible accessories for my camera. I needed some true experience to put the best buy run around to an end. The person who helped my took the time to get my camera out fitted to my needs. He listened to my needs and looked at products I wanted to out fit my camera with and came up with a solution that best buy could not do. He had to special order what I needed because he was out of the product and will call when it is in. I just wanted to get my camera to a level I needed and he is going to get me there. This is the place I go for information after I have searched the internet trying to figure out what I need. I have bought several cameras and lenses from them. Their prices are competitive and I know that if I need help or servicing they are there to help. I like that they offer classes also. The last camera I bought was for my husband. I called and spoke to one of the experienced sales persons. I told him what he was using and he suggested the camera I bought not the one I would have gotten him. My old friend and mentor, the late John Alley, was a pro photographer that would not set foot in any camera store but Mike Crivello's. If you're a rank amateur, you will likely be intimidated as you walk across the bridge to the door, as well as the first fifteen feet or so into the store. I'm not a rank amateur but felt intimidated that first time I went in. Take a deep breath and hold it, then exhale slowly. Everything will be fine. Ignore the studio lights, reflectors and studio backgrounds as you enter. That stuff is for the pros. Maybe someday, but right now, I don't need studio gear. :) Another reviewer said the decor is old. I disagree, I mean, what is a photography center supposed to look like? It looks like a store with lots of photography gear - and that's exactly, floor to ceiling, what it is. You'll find the help to be extremely knowledgeable and tolerant of noobs, taking time to patiently explain things. My new pal, John, adjusted his conversation to my level. While I consider myself a serious amateur photographer, I know what I don't know. John takes that into consideration when I visit. Of late, I've been purchasing used glass, mostly as a learning tool. I figure it's better to pay forty bucks for a lens and find out I don't like/need it than to spend two hundred for the same lens, brand new, and be stuck with it. I can always trade it in or sell it, and recover at least part of my educational investment. Why should you be here (or real photography stores) for your camera needs? Photography is what they do. The staff is populated with experts who actually shoot. Cameras aren't on an alarmed display 10 feet away from washers and dryers. There are more cases, filters, step-up and step-down rings, tripods, reflectors, lights, cameras and lenses than you'll find in a big box store where cameras are a "Oh, yeah, we have those, too!" product. Not to mention, people who will listen to you, ask the right questions and aid you finding just the right item you need. read more

Good selection of equipment. The prices usually cost more than what can be found online. But you're going there for the service. And the service I got there was awful. I'm fairly new and inexperienced when it comes to DSLR. The clerk behind the counter treated me like I was an idiot. Each question was followed by a sign and a 1 word answer. Not helpful at all. What a horrible experience! Was treated like some undesirable peasant. The staff member I approached was rude, condescending and overall a very socially inept person. The floor stock was minimal at best. Poorly lit, cramped and looking very 1970's. Will never and I mean NEVER visit this store again. I was looking to buy a new DSLR camera. I had done some research online and had an idea of what I wanted, but I wanted to be able to play around with them before buying one. I went to Mike Crivello's since they have a good selection and I figured they would be more informed about the product than other big-box electronics stores. I wasn't expecting to buy a camera here, since it's usually cheaper to buy online. The salesman showed us what we asked to see and answered our questions. However, it could have been a better experience. As another reviewer said, he made me feel kind of stupid since I'm not a camera expert. He didn't teach us anything about the camera, and expected us to know quite a bit about photography. We were debating between a few different models, and he didn't give us any advice or opinion. He just kind of stared at us as we were deciding what we wanted. It would have been much better if he taught us about the features, explained some of the photography terminology, and guided us toward a camera based on what we were looking for. Basically, he should have acted more like a salesman! In the end, we ended up buying our camera there. They were having rebates on their equipment, and we were able to get $100 off the Nikon D5100, making it the same price as online. In addition, certain lenses had rebates, and we decided to purchase a telephoto lens since they were also $100 off at the time. We wouldn't have bought anything there if they did not have the rebates. So we ended up doing the opposite of what we intended: got more information about the cameras at Best Buy, but got a better price here. However, if you need any accessories, such as lens filters or SD cards, they are significantly cheaper at other places. I was glad I was able to do business at a local store and would go back if I was looking for something specific or wanted to do a workshop to learn more about my camera. read more

I used to buy my used camera equipment here when in high school and college back in the early 90s. I just came back because I'm in town and wanted to pick up the new Nikon D3100 (which I did!). The service here is really great. Everyone is very patient, helpful, personable and knowledgeable. The staff are all seasoned experts--there are no inexperienced commission-obsessed sales staff that are common at many of the camera store chains. The selection here is great too, they carry higher quality brands but still manage to have many products available in the less-expensive range. I was glad to see some of the same staff here that was around back when I was in HS. It's no wonder they're still going strong, they've really got it together at Mike Crivello's. I don't live in the area, but I'll be sure to buy from them in the future and have my purchases shipped, they deserve the business. read more

Prices can be a bit higher than other sources I've managed to find. If you can get past the incredibly dated decor and seemingly sparse inventory, their service is outstanding. Most of the guys working there don't seem to be younger than 35. These guys have tremendous experience with photography that spans decades AND fields. I always enjoy striking up conversations with a few of the guys about the intricacies of various things including Leica cameras. One of the guys (I'm forgetting his name) used to work directly with the Leica factory and has visited it many times. This guys knows his stuff! Each time I walk out of there I am enlightened with fresh knowledge and inspiration. read more

Mike Crivello's has helped me out in a pinch a few times, and I'm grateful for their service. Example: I was recently hosting a big, daylong shoot, and one of my studio lights (that I had purchased online) decided it didn't wanted to work anymore. I was able to pop into Crivello's at the last minute, have the team help me find a comparable, in-stock strobe, and head back to setup within a few minutes. It wasn't all that much more expensive than what I had purchased online - but it certainly was more convenient to be able to get something in my hands right away. Best Buy certainly would not have had one, either. I know people love to purchase gear online, these days, but the day brick and mortar speciality stores like Crivello's close their doors, photographers are going to be in for a world of hurt. On Saturday afternoon I stopped by the store in a final attempt to see if I really needed to send my Nikon D4 in for service. I had taken it to another camera store and spoken with the Nikon Tech Support people who both said I needed to send it it. I walked in, Jerry was there to rescue me. He knew immediately what the issue was, took seconds to repair it, all while thoroughly entertaining me. After fixing my camera Jerry helped me to choose a really nice tripod and ball head. My husband was not so thrilled that I ended up spending more on additional camera gear, but I could not be happier!! (And when I went home to check, the prices were exactly what I would have paid from an online store). I just wanted to thank you for providing the community with a home for photographers! I went in here on a recommendation to have a reprint done. When walking in I noticed how dirty and outdated this store is, pretty huge turn-off. Found no one working in the store, and then a man showed up from the backroom. I explained to him that I just wanted a reprint of this picture. He told said to wait for a moment and then came back and told me to follow him. I guess I was talking to the 'technician' who asked me what I needed. I explained that I just needed a copy of this older photo made and he asked me all sorts of questions if I wanted it scanned to a disc for further use, what size I wanted, if I wanted it in black and white. It was my grandparent's wedding picture. I want a copy of it and I want it to look just like that. He told me it would take 10 days to 2 weeks! and they'd call me when it was ready, I shouldn't call them. I left feeling not sure I should leave it and had a sick feeling in my stomach. I got the idea that it would be an 8x10 and cost roughly $5.95. Not too bad since I was told by the person who recommended this place that Tuesdays were half price reprints. I wanted over 10 days and got a call that it was ready. I went in 2 days later to pick it up since this place is not near my home. Again that man who'd initially waited on me was there. The store was still dark and dirty. He told me the price and I asked if that was the discounted price since I'd been in on a Tuesday. He said no, it's not half price, it's Buy One, Get one Free on Tuesdays. OH. So, did you make two copies then? No, they had not. Okay, I guess I should have mentioned that when I came in the first time. The person who told me this said it was 1/2 price instead of BOGO, which in his mind was sort of the same thing. I then opened the envelope to look at the picture and it's not the same color. The image was nice and clear, but the original is sepia or has browns. This was black and white. Why did that technician guy ask me if I wanted black and white when I told him I wanted a COPY of what I'm brining in. In my mind I'm thinking yes, black and white since it's not in color, but he knows he can change the tones. I JUST WANT AN EXACT COPY. So the guy I'm talking to says that they can make me a 2nd copy if I wish. I am so disappointed and flustered at the stupidity. I told him that I can go to Walgreen's and get a copy in an hour. I don't live anywhere near there. Why do I want to put myself through that again? This whole experience was so bad that he couldn't even answer. He just gave me a blank stare. They need to find a better person to help customers. Clean up the store. It looks like 1981 in there. Everything is dusty and faded. If I could give it a 1/2 star, I would. All I have now is a nice copy, yet unauthentic to 1929. read more

I will NEVER go back there again!!!The way they treated me was appalling. When i didn't understand why my lens was still dirty after cleaning the sensor, which was recommended by the Shorewood store, the salesman replied IM NOT GOING TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU AGAIN over the phone. When I went back they all three argued with me. He cleaned it more thoroughly as he should have done the first time, as far as I'm concerned they are all rude and disrespectful, even arguing about how many negative yelp reviews they had, only five...well guess what, now you have SIX. Take responsibility for your lousy attitudes or just close your doors if you don't like your jobs or your customers! read more

Serious customer service failure. I had some 35mm film developed at Crivello's. Did not order prints--just a disc w/the digitized images. I went to pick up the negatives and disc and overall I just felt like the general friendliness among staff was lacking. THEN, I get home and look over the images on the disc...Many of the images had a horizontal black line on them. It's possible that the film/negatives were scratched, but it's also possible there was dust/dirt/hair/whatever in the negative scanner. I emailed their customer service just to ask if I could bring the negatives in for a re-scan. No reply. Ever. BUT they added my email address to their mailing list! I've been getting promo emails from Crivello's for the last year. And just today I received an email asking me to review them on Yelp. LOL. Sure thing...here's your review. I really wouldn't have even bothered writing this review had I not received the request from Crivello's to do it. But this just goes to show how clueless these folks are about how terrible their customer service is. Will not be going back. I'd rather ship my film out to a company who can deal with helping human beings. read more

We stopped in with an issue on our camera. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were able to fix our issue very quickly when we had been quoted $150 to get it fixed at another store. They didn't even take any compensation. They have a lot of knowledge and are not looking to rip anyone off. read more

This past spring, I took 700 slides to Crivello's to have them converted to digital disk. Previously, Art's Camera attempted and failed miserably (but cheerfully and professionally refunded my money). Crivello's failed just as badly, but was neither cheerful or professional. I talked with the individual at Crivello's who was actually going to do the work for 20 minutes. She said she used to work at Art's, and knew why they failed so miserably. Not gonna happen here, she said. I actually told her, "If there's a human being in the photo, make sure their feet are on the bottom of the frame". Seems like an insulting instruction, yes? Not for Crivello's! There was a photo of my wife walking on the side of a cliff with no visible means of support, defying gravity (and another 20 or so upside down, or backwards - and that was in the first 100 slides). How about checking your work Crivello's? They refused a refund, and then the manager began shouting at me! MONTHS later, after going through American Express, Wisconsin Consumer Protection Agency, and CONTACT 6 TV I finally got my money back. But not before they wrote an untruthful letter about the circumstances to both AMEX and WCPA. They accused me of being a con man in said letter. Is this the kind of business you want to trust your pictures with? I didn't think so (unless you have months to waste). One star because minus 10 was not an option. read more

Great selection. Employees are VERY knowledgeable about their products. They ask what your level you are at - beginner, casual, professional - and ask what you would use the product for - portrait, street, concert, etc. Far better than the big box places. I would rather drive 2 hours round trip to MC than go 15 minutes to Best Buy for photography needs. read more

Most of the employees have been there for a long long time and really know the photography business, and, they are generous with their time and expertise.
