Used to be a regular at Crivello's and was glad to give them the business. Today, two months after being told it done, our film to digital conversion was still not done. I planned on purchasing a consumer level camera and visiting Mike's was a waste of time. They treated me like dog dirt on the bottom of their shoe! No one volunteered to help us, even though we were the only customers at the time. The person I approached didn't get off his stool, but talked to me from about 4 feet behind the counter. Since i'm not a 'professional' they apparently weren't interested in my business. Went in looking for a Nikon screen protector for my D700. Payed with my credit card, and walked out of the store to find it didn't fit my camera. Went back in with the camera where the associate tried a few screens to find that he didn't have the right one. He didn't bother looking up what the correct item actually was. He disappeared behind the counter and came back with cash for a refund. Never offered to refund on my credit card or to order the part. read more

I finally unpacked the box with my camera equipment last week and discovered my lenses needed some attention--and my camera bag had been mouse-eaten to the point of uselessness. As it happened, I had a camera-enthusiast friend visiting from Germany, so we made a tour of camera stores looking for a good deal on a Canon flash and filters for our various lenses. Of the three places we went, the salespeople at Crivello's were most helpful--and least likely to try to push a particular brand or philosophy on us. In the process, one of the salesmen (Jerry?) took it upon himself to clean all of my lenses and my camera and gave me some very useful advice about my aging AF 50 lens for my Minolta (it's lost its spring and he recommended going to Ebay to get a replacement). In the process of sorting all my gear, I ended up losing a skylight filter and forgetting a lens cap retainer I'd purchased. Since I was out of town that afternoon doing touristy things with my friend, we didn't get back to the store until the next afternoon. Evidently they hadn't found either of the pieces I'd neglected either, but they were more than happy to replace the missing items--at no cost to me. Since they also sponsor photography tours, my impression of the place is that it's a store for camera and photography enthusiasts who are looking for good deals on interesting gear--but they're not hard-nosed salesmen just out to wring that last buck out of your pocket. It was a pleasure doing business there, and their attitude earned them a faithful customer in me. read more

The quality of the sales team varies wildly from quite helpful to totally useless. A far cry from Central Camera in Chicago but about all you can find in Milwaukee. read more

Service is absolutely terrible. I was looking to purchase a Leica M. I came into the store today, being the only local dealer, to gain some insight, and potentially make the purchase locally, vs giving my business online (NY) or to Central Camera in Chicago. The way I was treated was terrible. I barely got the first question out of my mouth before the gentleman behind the counter dismissed me, and then stated I couldn't afford it. He never offered a catalog, brochure, nothing. I then asked him if we was dismissing a 7200 sale that quickly, and he said yes. I walked out of the store flabbergasted. I have never been treated so rudely. I could have paid cash today, if he had just taken the time to talk to me for 5 minutes and attempted to make a sale. read more

This is my new favorite store for cameras and equipment. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. It costs a bit more than Best Buy or other big box retailers selling similar equipment but the products are better quality and I'm more than willing to pay a little bit more to deal with experts. read more

I went into Crivello's looking for direction regarding how to transfer pictures from my camera (which I hadn't bought at Crivello's) to my personal computer. I was treated with patience and kindness and was able to solve my problem almost immediately. Thank you, Mike Crivello's, for still maintaining a stock of darkroom supplies! Recently the biggest online photographic store decided to stop shipping some vital darkroom chemicals (pick up only at their NY store). The "emergency" hour+ drive to Civello's was worth the trip. Their chemistry prices are comparable and the friendly staff is knowledgeable; a trait that hasn't changed since I was a Milwaukee resident and regular customer years ago. I will be planning return trips to Crivello's as a renewed customer as well as doing some online business with them. read more

I had the most helpful and enlightening experience today when I entered Mike Crivello's Camera Center in Brookfield, WI. "Jerry" was immediately welcoming and helpful when I asked about a filter for my new lens. Once the filter was applied, Jerry proceeded to give me an impromptu mini lesson on the basic mechanics of my new-to-me camera. He discussed the various settings and use, or non-use of the pop-up flash, because I'd also inquired about a flash diffuser. He did not try to sell me something unnecessary. Within the 45 minutes, Jerry's expertise and sense of humor convinced me that Mike Crivello's will be my new "home" for all things photography. I am now eager to continue my learning experience by attending their classes. I am sorry if anyone left the Camera Center vowing never to return. Contacted the Brookfield store for a lens recommendation. They did not carry the one we were looking for but said they could get it but they had one that would make us quite happy. I have been at this store before and the staff was quite helpful. I asked to have the lens delivered to their Shorewood location since I was coming from out of town to pick it up. That store could certainly use some help, plus the cigarette smell was awful. The guy at this store is a little off center but his humor though off putting was tolerable. Lens works great! read more
