After meeting with several other companies, it was a relief to meet with Mike. He could see the design we were looking for immediately and was willing to sit down look through our many saved images and see easily how to combine our vision with our budget. He also could take opposing wife/husband ideas and combine them into a workable plan. We have a large corner lot, and it needed a complete overhaul after ten years as a rental. We did a large hardscape with a water feature, gas firepit with an L-shaped concrete built-in bench, bamboo, sculpted areas of sod for our dogs, irrigation and timing, drainage, and gravel pathways. Mike was one of the only landscapers with whom we met who could say, "I think this is a better option," and we knew he would be right. He improved on ideas on which we were sure that we were firm in ways we hadn't anticipated. Example: we thought we wanted floating "islands" of concrete separated by black Mexican beach pebble, in a fashion we had seen on design sites. He incorporated the pebble into poured bands, because he knew it would eliminate the hazard of the uneven surfaces. In the end, Mike improved on our design in ways that were easier than we'd thought. The crew was there at the same time each day without fail and did an excellent job in not just landscape and hardscape, but in correcting existing issues, tiling, and other detail work. They knew we had dogs and never left the space messy or hazardous. Months later, we have a green yard with minimal water usage. He came in at less than 10% budget overage which, if you've done serious renovation, is nothing (we removed 49.7 tons of material from the yard before he started), including some improvements and upgrades that we hadn't considered. Mike and his team were great. I definitely recommend them. We hired them for a full backyard renovation: landscape, hardscape, demo, tree removal, fences, patio cover, outdoor counter/sink, electrical, etc, etc. We got competitive bids from three different companies, and decided to go with Mike. He had done good work for our neighbor, and there's something to be said for a guy that's been doing this for 30+ years. Before Mike, we worked with a landscape architect to design the yard. The landscape architect was good, but now that I know what Mike can do, I'll skip the architect and go straight to Mike when it's time to do the front yard. Mike has specialized teams of employees. There was the tree team, the cement team, the landscaping team, the carpentry team, and a few all-purpose guys (shout out to Ezekiel). On some days, when multiple things were happing at once, there were 12+ guys working. Having these various teams meant each part of the project was done quickly and correctly. It's been about a month since the project finished, and Mike's been good about coming back to address small things that we didn't notice right away. Now I need to figure out how to upload photos. GOOD LANDSCAPING The yard looks great now. His crew pulled up old roots, hauled away our old landscaping junk (bricks, cement posts, etc), leveled the entire yard, sliced down our patio, poured concrete, added a flower bed border, and installed a brand new automatic sprinkler system. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! Ex: He had put on our quote a $300 charge for a rented dumpster - no biggee. But then he told me he was going to use the same dumpster for our job and another job, and joked that he would be saving money but we wouldn't. I don't think he even stopped to consider how that might make us feel. If he had only said "Great news! I can work some magic and knock $50 off the dumpster price for you!" He still would have made more than he should have and we would have felt like he's looking out for us. Ex: When our sprinkler system had a problem after a couple of months and needed to be replaced (not his fault but he had the warrantee because he purchased the system) we left multiple messages over 2 months and he never got back to us. When I finally did get him here, he replaced the system within 2 days, which was great. But when I asked him why he didn't get back to us he said "I'm so busy, I don't have time for little jobs." All in all, he just sounds like he doesn't care about our experience - his bedside manner could use a lot of work. read more

My wife and I needed our backyard renovated and hardscaped for drought tolerance. We had met with other landscapers but Mike was prompt and efficient in getting back to us. He came to our house and we talked over our ideas and we listened to Mike's ideas also. He contacted us within that week with a quote and a price list of the various items that we had wanted. We made some changes in our original plan and Mike advised us on alternative materials ant their practicality for our environment, e.g. decomposed granite vs flagstone and pebbles for the walkway and flagstone vs Trek decking for two patios. Once we agreed on the design and layout of our yard, Mike and his super crew were at our house 10 days later to remove the old lawn, renovate and replace the non-working irrigation system and pouring the concrete for the patios. I cant begin to tell you how efficient and hard working these guys are. From early morning to late afternoon they were hard at it non-stop. They also dug up and relocated other trees and shrubs and replaced & repaired the poorly functioning sprinkler system in the front yard. Mike invited us to go with him to a nursery in Calabasas to select trees and other plantings, which we totally enjoyed, and came up with absolutely gorgeous specimens for our yard. In the end we have a beautiful backyard that we are very proud of and are thrilled to walk out to every day.
