When I first called to make an appointment, I was put through a screening process and then sent to "Shannon's" voicemail, which promised a call back within 24 hours to schedule my first appointment. I called three times over two weeks, trying to get an appointment. I was already terrified about what was happening to me. It's demeaning to feel like you have to beg for someone to care. I'm sincerely disappointed because several people referred me to Dr. Trumby and I honestly believed he could help me. Thankfully, I found another hematologist/oncologist whose staff called back within the day, treated me with respect, and made me a priority from day one. They made it clear I deserved the attention and care I needed. Doctors should realize that an unresponsive staff push patients to seek out other places where they feel heard and valued. I didn't go to the ER for no reason -- I went because All Care isn't open 24/7. I was getting worse, I couldn't sleep, and I was genuinely scared. I would've gone to urgent care, but they have the same limited office hours. When I tried to express to Ashley PeSek, PA the PTSD I've developed from previous medical encounters, I never expected her response to be, "You need to take accountability." That hit me hard. Yes, I went to the ER and eventually got the medication I needed, but only because the ER helps you first -- before asking if you're paying with debit, credit, or cash. I couldn't afford the prescription beforehand. The allergic reaction I had wasn't minor -- it came from an unknown source and caused painful, pus-filled welts that made it hard to even get out of bed. Still, she downplayed it -- questioning what the ER doctor said and reducing it to mosquito bites. I'm 21 years old. I know what mosquito bites feel like, and that wasn't it. Her response shook me because Jessica Agwumaro, PA and Dr. Osehotue Okojie would never treat me like that. They have always shown me compassion, respect, and understanding. They never judged me, and they always listened. They diagnosed conditions that other doctors overlooked, prescribed the right treatment, and helped me get better -- both physically and emotionally. So yes, I'll take accountability for not going to pick up the medication right away -- but let's be honest: accountability doesn't pay hospital bills. It doesn't buy prescriptions when you're sick, broke, and out of work. It doesn't ease the weight of medical debt. I don't live a luxurious life -- I'm just trying to survive. I'm not saying All Care is a bad clinic. In fact, I've had some truly positive experiences there, and both Dr. Okojie and Jessica Agwumaro, PA are outstanding providers. They're even listed on the clinic's website -- unlike Ashley PeSek, PA, who isn't. But I can't ignore how her care made me feel: dismissed, belittled, and emotionally drained. What I experienced with Ashley PeSek, PA felt cold, lacking empathy, and out of touch with the reality many patients face -- especially those of us who don't have a financial safety net. I'm not asking for anyone to lose their job. I just wish providers like her were required to receive more cultural competence training and psychological sensitivity education -- especially when working with vulnerable and marginalized patients. After that appointment, I sat in my car and cried. I had come in to get my FMLA paperwork filled out and was blindsided when I was told it would cost $100 per page, on top of my $65 copay. I had only brought $100, thinking that would cover everything -- and found out it wouldn't even be enough to get one page done. None of it was covered by insurance. I've been on sick leave with no income, and I've already spent everything I have on hospital visits and medication. Being told that I shouldn't have gone to the ER, or that I should've had my 17-year-old brother pick me up to get my prescription -- when the truth is I simply couldn't afford it -- was deeply hurtful. I didn't say all of that in the moment because I was already explaining I couldn't afford the FMLA paperwork. I was overwhelmed, ashamed, and emotionally exhausted. But even if I had gone into full detail, nothing should have justified the lack of compassion I felt in that room. That appointment wasn't just disappointing -- it was emotionally damaging. So no, I don't want a follow-up visit because I simply cannot afford it, nor do I have the emotional capacity for it.

Enter Dr. Andrew Morchower. I was googling "best pain management doctors in Dallas" and his name came up. I remembered seeing him clear back in 2019. He made an impression then and really listened, went the extra mile for me and the only reason I changed was just I wound up with somebody closer to me. So I went back today and it was even better than 2019. Doctor's that care about their patients truly and think outside the box without gaslighting the patient are pretty rare. They don't look at your story and automatically assume anything... they take the time in the visit to really listen to you and really try to put it together. It wasn't a 10 minute visit. I am medically complicated and I appreciate the vast amount of time given. He ran late, but they didn't realize I was a new patient pretty much. And honestly, I would wait hours for this kind of care. It just doesn't matter to me. So I am very grateful that I have found my new pain management home. Pain management is an integrate part of my team and I am absolutely convinced that Dr. Morchower will bring it all. Pain isn't a perfect process and patients can be difficult, but I'm convinced my treatment will be optimized here and I am over the moon to reconnect. I will be somebody with a face and a name and not just a number here. Thanks Dr. M. We're gonna do some great things to manage my life. My husband's back has caused him chronic pain after a lifetime of working and playing hard. His ridiculously high pain tolerance and overall fervent belief that Pennsylvania country boys "just rub some dirt on it" have taken their toll. Fifty years of playing ice hockey, football, wrestling, snow skiing, more ice hockey, a few car accidents, and whatever other extreme sport he could get his hands on wore away at his body. And then came The Great Texas Freeze during the week of Valentine's Day, 2021. He slipped on black ice and fell. Hard. All 280lbs of him. On the cement. Even the birds stopped chirping at the sound of his resounding crack. Even though Texas woke up after COVID-19 (blah!), we just couldn't get him to a good doctor. And honestly, we didn't know how badly he was hurt until we saw the X-rays taken at a chiropractor's office. Wow! We tried his primary care physician first, who promptly sent us to that chiropractor, who sent us to a physical therapist, who recommended acupuncture, who insisted it was vitamin insufficiencies, and on and on. All this time, my husband and I prayed for healing, for guidance, and, after the first two years, for a miracle. We researched Dallas-area Spine Doctors and Pain Management Doctors and went... to 3 of DFW's "Top" doctors for more opinions. Each time, we'd jump through their hoops, the insurance hoops, the pharmacy hoops, and we never gave up praying. One after the next, they were just NEVER able to give my husband one BIT of pain relief! Joe was in so much pain, and I was exhausted trying to help him manage through life. I was…read morecontacted to make a check-up appointment and I asked to go ahead and get orders for my lab work to have that done ahead of time so we could review them at my appointment. You get very little face time in any medical office these days, and I wanted to maximize my time and actually discuss my lab results in person for once instead of in a hurried phone call at the end of the PA or nurse's day when she's hustling to get her calls for the day done. I left the request for lab orders on the voice mail for Dr Popa's nurse. When no one called me back after a week, I called again and I was told the lab orders were at the front desk for me to pick up. When I went to pick them up, there was nothing for me. After waiting 20 minutes the office admin hustled me into a back office and told me that it was office policy to only write lab orders at the time of an appointment. I was not allowed to speak with Dr Popa or her PA about my request. So now I have to wait three weeks until the appointment to get the lab orders. Then I've got to make two more appointments- one at Quest to get the labs run and another to review the results since I expect them to show some changes in my health. At some point I'm going to run out of meds before this is over and can get a new scrip written. Letting me get the lab work in advance would have avoided that situation. Update - looking for a new doctor now. I can only see or talk to the PA and she won't listen to me . She's made up her mind about why my thyroid levels are high and refuses to listen to my other symptoms and concerns.
