I had a great first experience here, which is why I came back for a second balayage appointment. The salon itself is beautiful and everyone is friendly. Unfortunately, my second visit didn't meet expectations. The end result wasn't what I had hoped for, and I left feeling disappointed, especially given the cost, which was just under $500. I did try to work with the stylist to adjust things, but ultimately it didn't get to a place I felt happy with. One thing I did notice was a difference in the overall atmosphere. The salon was very busy, loud, and at times felt a bit chaotic during my second visit. My first appointment was much quieter, and I felt there was more opportunity for clear communication. This time around, I didn't feel fully heard, which may have contributed to the outcome. While my stylist was kind and communicative, I think consistency in both environment and results is something to be mindful of when booking. I'd recommend asking very detailed questions upfront and making sure you're aligned on the outcome before moving forward. read more

A few weeks before coming home for Thanksgiving, I off hand mentioned to my dearest mother that I wanted to get a haircut soon. A day later I get a text reading "your hair appt is with Michael at Mikell Coiffure's 11/18 at 9:45am. He doesn't take new clients but he is seeing you!" ahahahahaha gotta love Moms. I arrived right on time as I know my mom would have had my head on the guillotine if I was late. I walked up the steps directly adjacent to Sugarfish, and opened the door into a breathtaking French-Moroccan inspired interior with an ocean view peaking through the window. The receptionist greeted me with a huge smile as I checked in and asked me if I wanted coffee or some water to which I obviously said "both hehe" and then asked if I wanted still or sparkling water. God I loved being pampered sometimes. But the answer to that question is always sparkling. Always. After getting my hair washed, I got in the comfy salon chair and a silk green robe draped over me. I felt like a king in here ahahaha. Michael then comes out in a white tank top under a light green button down, hermes bracelet on the wrist, multi color golden gooses on the feet, all tied together by a pearl necklace that he got off amazon (allegedly). Why am I giving you all these details? I have no idea I'm just trying to set the scene. I walked into Mikell Coiffure, hair down to my shoulders looking like "a sheepdog" as my father so eloquently puts it. But I think I look like a rockstar heheheheh. Anyways, I didn't really know what I wanted to do. After explaining to Michael I kinda want to go back to my clean cut choir boy look but I'm conflicted because I have been growing my hair out for awhile and I do like the Rockstar, or Sheepdog, look, he asked how long I'd had it long. "About 2 years..." I said with my tail between my legs. "Okay let's go clean cut" with the confidence of a 2017 Tom Brady. DONE! Michael is the most engaging hair stylist or barber I have ever been to, as he is so genuinely passionate about his work that I don't think he could hide it if he tried. I got insights into the beauty industry, how he decided on the Salon name, stories of his travels to Morocco that inspired the interior for Mikell Coiffure, and much more. You can teach many things in life, but passion isn't one of them. I've followed him from salon to salon until he finally opened his own, because I love him SO MUCH, and no one does my hair like he does. There's been times where I show him a picture, and he does exactly what i want. There's also been times where I have no clue what I want to do, give him free reign, and it comes out gorgeous. I called and described my situation to the super friendly receptionist who talked me through what services I would need and booked me with Sarah Bella. Best salon experience ever! Sarah Bella was super knowledgeable in her craft and described exactly what she could do to fix my hair and how she would get my hair to what I wanted it to look like. During the process Sarah Bella made sure to explain exactly what she was doing and why and what results they would give which was very reassuring. Once she started drying my hair I honestly couldn't stop smiling because it was what I was looking for + soooo much more. I have never been so happy after a hair appointment. Got my hair done at Mikell Coiffure and it was a full service experience! The decor and ocean view is so beautiful, the scene is bustling yet relaxing, the staff is professional and skilled, and i left with the most gorgeous hair that I am still getting compliments for! When I walked in, I was cheerfully greeted by the receptionist, given instructions, and asked if I'd like a beverage. I wanted to love this salon so badly...after moving here from NYC, I was on the hunt for a new salon to call home after having left the salon I frequented for 8+ years. The salon itself is super cute, and eventually got my hair looking more like I had wanted, but it took 6 hours of my life and two visits.... Rewind to my first visit- I had asked for a cut and color (bayalage), and booked it as such, but then my stylist said what I really wanted was a partial highlight. I walked out of the salon with a cut that had no life to it ( basically it was trimmed) and color that was NOT what I wanted. In an effort to be kind to the salon and the sytlist, I messaged my stylist direclty on instagram vs. writing a review or calling to complain. I showed my stylist pictures of my hair since she colored it - and compared it to past pics of my hair which is what I wanted. She agreed that she saw the difference and invited me back in. She was booked for a month, so I waited until I could see her again. When I went back, she re-did my color so it was much more to what I had wanted, but what I was most dissapointed by was the fact that she basically charged me as a new customer, full charge for the service, without even any apology to not getting it right the first time. I would have happily paid for the work, but what got me was the POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I then wrote a long email to the salon with NO REPLY. Now, I want a color touch up and cut, and feel like I need to hunt for a new salon, because this place just does not care. sighhh So...it might be worth a visit, and I'm sure regulars get good love, but if you are new customer I might keep looking. read more
