Took my car in for service after our traction control light went on and the car was shaking while driving. Mike charged me $145 to fix the issue, but as soon as I drive the car off his property, the light went on and the car was shaking again. I tried to take the car back there, but Mike argued that he didn't have time to fix it and "wouldn't put our car in front of his other 17 customers". We never asked to be first, just that he actually fixes the issue we originally paid for. Not even sure if he looked at the car in the first place. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Just took my car here for brakes (rotors and pads), and I needed help with my engine overheating. I thought it would be an easy $700+ given that I needed so much done with my brakes, and I had no idea what was wrong with my engine. Turns out it was just my radiator cap, but still MUCH MUCH cheaper than I thought. It was less than I thought the brakes alone would be! Plus Jim was very kind, FAST, and helpful. I moved to Mokena from Orland a little over a year ago, and had a very reliable mechanic in Orland. It is so nice to have found someone fast, cheap, reliable, and close by! Mike' Auto Service has been around a while. The business was sold to a Jim a few years back. Jim kept the name due to its good reputation. Jim is an excellent mechanic mostly experienced-trained. I have a philosophy that says, if the vehicle is elderly or if the repair is complicated (viz., electrical), it pays to pay a little more so take the vehicle to the dealership that has made and model trained technicians. I screwed up and when my Celica was blowing headlamps one after another, I took it to "Mikes", which is Jim. His reputation is strong but I believe the issue may have been over his head. He replaced the alternator and damaged front end lighting but the car continued to blow bulbs. He claimed that there is a part in the Celica's electrical system called a "stater" which is manufactured exclusively by Toyota which is possibly defective. So I did what I should have done in the first place and taken it to a Toyota Dealership where the mechanics are make-model trained. The dealership mechanics replaced the alternator and battery and noted on the repair order that the "stater" is built in to the alternator, and the vehicle was not overcharging. It was producing a charge of 14.1 which was well within tolerance. Not being "the master-mechanic" and having already replaced the alternator, I went back to "Mikes" (Jim) and asked for a refund on the alternator he installed, just the part and not the labor. I had driven the Celica five days without blowing a bulb and felt that this was a fair solution when a small businessman says his alternator was functioning properly, but a dealership with make/model trained mechanics says other wise. Yes, Jim refunded the price for the alternator (not labor). But I was required to listen to his lecture as to how my efforts at securing a repair that would not blow out the bulbs was wasting his time and therefor had reduced his profit margin. So here is the bottom line with Jim: If the repair that he performs does correct the problem you have probably saved a few cents. But Lord forbid should you need to return the vehicle to Jim for a correction. Get ready for sarcasm and criticism. Just a suggestion for Jim: If you were not an A-type penny pinching small businessman, and you hired a part time office administrative person, and possibly another part time mechanic, you would not be so critical of customers who justifiably return their vehicles to you when the repair does not solve the problem. We don't ask for anything more than civil communication when what you did does not cure the issue. read more

They gave me a great referral and answered several questions for me. My friends use them for their cars and highly recommended them to me and that is how I found out about Mike. read more

After using my usual mechanic for to fix an engine light issue unsuccessfully, I decided to try mikes auto. I worked with Jim. He was very well customer service oriented and patiently answered all my questions. My car was ready when promised and he actually fixed the problem for $200 less then my usual mechanic. Prompt, efficient, fair. I knew my Yukon needed some work but couldn't find the time to take it in until the check engine light and a bunch of error messages started flashing early Tuesday morning. I left a message with Mike's Auto Service at 6:40am. Within less than 10 minutes Jim had called me back and said I could bring my car in but he was apologetic that he probably wouldn't be able to look at it until the next day. Not a problem for me as I appreciated the heads up. 2:30pm that day I get a call back from Jim with a list of things that need to be fixed. These were not made up repairs to just take my money as he explained how each fix was tied to an issue I had told him about. As I brace myself for the cost and assume I'll have to choose to either fix the car or get a new one (car is 14 years old and not worth dumping a ton of money into), he quotes a price significantly less than what I was anticipating. I authorized the repairs and assumed it would take a few days. Jim promised to be done by late afternoon the next day. By 11am the next morning, Jim had called to say it was ready. Hands down the best auto repair experience I've had! Now my Yukon runs with more get-up-and-go than it's had in a long while and I don't have to rush into my next car purchase.
