Fb page describes "hot lather" neck shave after every cut. Also mentions no reservations only walkins. So I was not surprised when no one answered the phone at 3p on a busy Friday. However I was surprised that the Barber let me wait through four other customers to insult me by saying he didn't do "long hair" cuts (my hair isn't long rn... it's been longer than my shoulders and rn only goes to my eyes) and that I was better off finding a "cosmetologist" closet to Boston. He told me I could have asked him at any point about the hot shave that they in fact did not do there despite their fb description. Yeah, cus he seemed so approachable... The second star is only because these guys are vets and deserve respect no matter what from a civilian like me. But unless you want something between a buzz and a crew, don't come here. $50 for 20 minutes is a bit steep. It would be ok, but Mike seemed grumpy, and his floor clipper attachments were not clean (hair clippings all over the holder), even though I was the first customer of the day. He opened shop 5 minutes before my appointment, and he mentioned he was working back-to-back appointments all day without his co-worker. read more

Mike and Kevin do a good job cutting hair, but are also good people. Mike is more talkative if that's what you want, while Kevin is quieter but will talk if you want to. Both do a great job at cutting hair. A touch expensive. read more

Being from out of town, and looking for a place for a hair cut I am glad I found this place. If you're a man and need a hair cut there is no reason why you shouldn't come here. The prices are cheap, the cut is spectacular and the setting is amazing. Set up like a barber shop from early to mid 1900's, it's exactly the place I want to go and spend my money to get a hair cut. The guys know what they are doing. I told them exactly what i was looking for and they did just that. There is nothing much else I can say about this place that hasn't already been said. This is the only place you need for a haircut, men. As my son has gotten older, so has his hairstyle needs. We were struggling to find a good place that gets men's hair. Mike's delivers in spades! The barbers are incredibly skilled with scissors and razors. And, they remember you and your favorite haircut. The shop is very cool and relaxing. If you get bored waiting (you won't) there's a 1920's Sears catalog to peruse. The vintage furnishings, tin ceiling and 50s music provides lots of eye and ear candy. I wanted to support the local shops and I was really excited cause the place looked nice but big mistake. Just like what the other reviewer wrote, If its for a high school kid or just a buzz cut/crew cut then this place is ok. Besides that forget it. Might as well try Supercuts for $20. I should of known when I asked for a classic side part and Kevin reacted like a dear in headlights. Should of known when I asked him questions about the hair and he didn't seem to want to answer. He asked if I want to leave the back long, I say yes, he cuts it anyways. Didn't seem to know what a Fade meant. I showed him pictures too. I would have appreciated it more if he told me he couldn't achieve the look I wanted instead of just hacking around. My hair looked like his by the end of it. Good thing it wasn't for an event. Can't wait til a month from now so it can grow out and I can get it fixed some place else. Forget about calling, no one ever picks up. read more

Well, I was very nervous walking in because I have not changed my barber in about 6 or 7 years. I just recently moved to Newton, and I needed to find a place that would make me feel comfortable. Had one decent hair cut here. Then tried to return on two different occasions. Once, on a Saturday around noon -- closed. The 2nd time at 3:15 on a week day -- again closed with a 4:00 PM closing time prominently posted in the window and personnel still in the shop behind locked doors. On the door it stated, "if the door is closed don't knock." This customer service attitude of "don't call me, I'll call you" doesn't work for me.
