Mike's Court is one of the best neighborhood bar/restaurant in the area. It's small but comfortable and the atmosphere is very relaxed. It's one of those places where the regulars are friendly and everyone knows your name. The employees are equally friendly and the food is great. Mike, the owner is especially pleasant and can be found behind the bar, waiting tables, and checking to make sure all the customers are happy practically non stop. A few of us stopped in recently and had some fantastic sandwiches (baked Italian, roast beef and meatball subs) and they were all packed to the brim with meat and toppings and were delicious. What really got me were the prices were unbelievable. We each had a great sub, fries and a drink with tax included for less than other big chain places in town charge for just a sub. Awesome little local joint. I was on a road trip to NY and stopped in Altoona just to get some food and some sleep. The hotel desk agent recommended it. And she wasn't wrong. Mike, his staff and even his local customers all welcomed us like regulars. The only thing that topped the welcome was the food. I had the roast beef sandwich that everyone recommends and it didn't disappoint. I don't love horseradish so I got it on the side and the meat and peppers alone loaded the sandwich with flavor. Others in my party had a mushroom swiss burger and chicken tenders and fries. You can tell everything that comes out of the kitchen is made to impress. We were traveling thru the area and got off for a break at Mike's Court after reading other Yelp reviews. It took a minute to find after exiting the highway but so worth it after finding it tucked away in a neighborhood. We appreciated that everyone was SO FRIENDLY! After considering the recommendations of the waitress, we both had the roast beef & fries as described. One word: OUTSTANDING! Love this place! After learning that it was our first time there, the waitress brought us a sharpie & basketball to sign for their collection. The place is plastered with sports team pennants and memorabilia. We were told we wouldn't see anything from Penn State, but us being from Indiana, were pleased to hear Mike is all for Norte Dame! 10/10 RECOMMEND! read more

We have been making our rounds of places to eat in Altoona and it was suggested to try out Mike's Court. We heard that their roast beef sandwiches were very good. Have to say, we thought this place was legit! We got the Mike's Court Signature Roast Beef sandwich and because it was Friday we got the fried fish sandwich as well. We added on onion rings and a house salad. The rings were nice and crunchy. The salad was a great to split for the two of us and the house dressing was tasty. I have to say, the food all came out hot and fresh tasting. The beer we got was ice cold too. This all made a great dinner and the price was on point. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with the menu. They are also open past 9pm which seems to be rare in Altoona! We will be back! Mike's Court is a winner! read more

It was our first time here, and the staff made us feel like we were regulars in all the good ways. The staff works like a well regulated team and were all friendly and attentive. we got the roast beef special and the sandwiches were so good. A bit of heat and a little sweet, which was a good balance. You should come here just to meet the staff. I told someone picking up glasses that everything was top notch, and it turned out to be the owner. We signed a basketball, and shook his hand. Went to Mike's for lunch with the wife. Had a bacon pepper jack burger with fries. Burger and fries were very good. Beers were ice cold and clean tasting. That means good glass washing and a clean tap system. Many places miss this. Mike, the owner, works at Mike's! He waited on us and made us feel like regulars on our first visit. This place is one of Altoona's best kept secrets. It's very unassuming, and when you first see the place, it just looks like any other house on the block. However, this place has the best roast beef sandwich you'll ever taste. Their other food is good, but I highly recommend the roast beef with everything on it. The portions are huge and you definitely get your money's worth. The best thing about this place is that it's non-smoking and family friendly. The only downfalls are the parking lot being about a half a block away and they're cash only. They also only serve beer, but they have a great selection of drafts and bottles. I always make it a point to drop in at least once when I'm home visiting family. I long for the incredibly messy but strangely delicious Italian nachos. The food is good and the beer is always ice cold; however the best part is the people. Yeah, they're often busy and you may have to wait a while for your food, but who cares? No parking. I was yelled at by a lady when I parked in front of her house. The outside of the bar had 3 drunk people smoking who later came back in. We order our food and was told it would be ready in 30 minutes. It wasn't ready for another 30 minutes. Some of the food was microwaved. I don't really know what to say about this place because it's AWESOME! When I'm in town I always make sure I drag my family to eat here at least a few times. My personal fave are the Italian nachos and pepperoni salad. Yummmmmmy. Went based on reviews from the past, the place is a very cool sports climate ... with tons of sports memorabilia and pennants all over the ceiling. My wife & I were visiting Altoona and stayed at a downtown hotel. The front desk clerk recommended Mike's Court. She said we might be hesitant to go inside once we get there. Well, we went inside. Their staff is super friendly. It is a neighborhood place for sure, the patrons were also super nice. They have a nice selection of draft beers. Their food is excellent, all large portions. Mike, the owner, was off that night--the staff said he was there 95% of the time. We went on a Sunday night and there were around 30 customers there at 7PM. It is warm and cozy inside, with seating at booths, tables & the bar. If I'm back in Altoona I'll be back at Mike's. read more
