Worst jerky I have ever had. Tough no flavor. I would spend my money somewhere else. Was hoping for good jerky but not here

Mike's Jerky is the BEST EVER! My son lives in Montana and my daughter in St. Louis. They never get enough when I send it to them. They miss New Mexican chili and Mike has the recipes down perfect. Delicate and not over powering. Still, the habanero is supposed to bring tears to your eyes, and it does. All the other flavors are right on. The jerky is sliced thin and almost melts in your mouth. When you walk into this location located on San Mateo just south of Indian School before the I-40 east bound entrance, you are overwhelmed by the smell of fresh jerky. The sheer volume of jerky in the store is enough to make you gasp. I was greeted by a smiling faced gentleman, little did I know he was Mike (the owner), I only realized it once I made the connection between his face and the face on the bags of jerky. I told him that I have never seen this location before. He stated that it has only been open a couple weeks, but he has a location on Menaul just west of Juan Tabo. I had no idea what flavor of jerky I wanted to buy for there was so many. Mike made an awesome suggestion, which was asking me whether or not I wanted to try any of the jerky, for if I didn't know how they tasted, how would I know what I would like. He started bombarding me with all types of jerky, from Chicago Smoke, to Green Chile, the Santa Fe, and Chicago Smoke, Butter Mesquite and so many more. It was a tough decision, but he helped me make my decision by allowing me to sample so many flavors. It was as though I ate a whole bag of jerky before I even bought any. It was great. Mike is really friendly and outgoing. He makes you feel real comfortable as if you were a long time friend of his. I highly recommend all Albuquerque citizens visit this gem of a business, especially if you love jerky, there is no other place like it. I absolutely LOVE Mike's Jerky. He has a wide variety to choose from and he is very knowledgeable about the products since he makes it himself. He will let you sample as many different types as you want to make sure you are satisfied. I tried the salt variety and the garlic salt one. Both were great! His prices are reasonable too. The jerky is the thin type, which is what I prefer, and is the best tasting that I have found here in Albuquerque. Definitely try it out. You won't be disappointed! read more

If you like jerky, this place is awesome and a must do. They have every flavor imaginable and will let you taste them. We are used to this type of jerky but now live in Northern California and all we can find us the rubbery kind, yuck. We always stock up when we are in town. Absolutely the best jerky I have tried!! It is super thin, just how I love it. Fair warning, when the description says hot, it is hot!! We decided to try the pineapple habanero one and let me tell you, there was not enough water at my house to put out the fire in my mouth ! It was even spicy for my husband who loves anything and everything that's spicy. We will definitely order from them again, I want to try the rest of the flavors. Second time we are ordering from Mike. Initially saw him on Andrew Zimmerman. As promised the quality of the meat is great and yes, it is paper thin and delicate. It's not overwhelming with flavor but lightly seasoned and melt in your mouth good meat! First review in abq!!! Mikes jerky is a spot my brother normally checks out. He's sent me a few bags to Hawaii prior to this occasion. We were headed camping and decided to get some jerky for the trip. Mike (the owner of the store) was extremely helpful and let us try some samples of his popular flavors. I have been going to Mike's for about two years and throughout those two years I have tried other brands of beef jerky, but nothing measures up to the quality jerky from Mike's. They have so many different flavors to choose from and at first it was a bit overwhelming for me because I didn't know which flavors to choose, but they allowed me to sample any flavor that I wanted. My favorite types are Green Chile, Santa Fe, and Green Chile/Lemon Pepper, but I've tried just about every flavor and they are all delicious. The service is always fantastic! Earlier on in the year they opened up another location on the Westside and it is so convenient for me that I find myself stopping by once a week. Definitely stop by and try it out! I was in a customer's office and Mike stopped by with jerky and samples. I tried a few and was hooked. So glad they opened the store on Coors and Menaul. I always get the Green Chile, Santa Fe and the Cajun. I love that every time you walk in you are treated like family and that you can sample all of their favors before you buy. I always grab bags to take to friends in Texas and include in goody boxes I send to my Navy Submarine son and Marine Niece. So my wife was heading out to Albuquerque for the weekend when I happened to catch the tail end of bizarre foods in Albuquerque featuring Mike's jerky. Of course I had to send her in to pick some up to bring home to me in South Texas. It wasn't far from where she was going to be so she and her cousin went into check it out. They both report having an excellent experience with the people working there and with getting to try all the different flavors of jerky. Since I wasn't there to taste any I requested red and green chilies since those are quintessential New Mexico flavors. She also got Chicago smoke and Mike's Ma-steak, which she liked and thought our son would like as well. I like all four very well. However, of the ones I tried the green chili is the one I like the least, but that's not surprising since I generally prefer red anyway. The Ma-steak was my favorite. Let me say this is not grocery store jerky. To me it is much more reminiscent of South African biltong or Mexican machacado. Although machacado always has a bit of a rotten flavor to me, but this does not. This is a meat eaters jerky, if you don't like beef you probably won't like this. But this is some first-class jerky. And our nine-year-old son has been gobbling it up since he got to taste it. read more

When I walked in it was like being in jerky heaven a lot of different flavors I have never heard of and some were good and others were to wild for my liking in the end I went with good ol' red chile which I thought was pretty good. Ahhh. I hate to leave a 3 star review because I see all the positive reviews but as a jerky lover I have to be honest. I saw them on T.V and decided to try them out since I love beef jerky and am addicted. I eat beef jerky a lot like all the time so I figured if all these reviews say it's delicious it must be. Welpp....it wasn't personally. I ordered the famous Green Chile and Red Chile but it just wasn't amazing. The service and delivery was great ! But unfortunately the jerky was just too thin for my liking. I like my jerky a little chewy and I like it to taste fresh almost a little moist in a way and this just wasn't it. It was dry and not spicy at all which I think was where my biggest disappointment was. I'm sure others love this about the jerky but personally it wasn't my kind. read more

Dissatisfied with my beef jerky options in my local area, I came across Mike's Jerky while browsing www.bestbeefjerky.org a couple years ago. I was lured to try it based on the positive "Best" review given to the Green Chili flavor. Boy am I glad I gave them a try. Thin and crunchy with awesome flavor. Mike's is now my go to beef jerky store. Their customer service is one of the best I've experienced. Mike and Brenda definitely go out of their way to make sure their customers are satisfied. If I ever find myself in the Albuquerque area, I will make it a point to stop in and meet the owners.
