On Saturday before Easter Sunday I bought $30 worth of of sliced roasted turkey breast that I planned on serving on Easter. On Sunday when I opened the package the turkey slices were smelly, gray in color and crumbly. I was unable to serve it which ruined my whole Easter dinner. Keller's is amazing! We ordered a 12 pound prime rib for Christmas Eve dinner. I ordered it 4 days in advance and it was ready for pick up when promised. The cut was perfect. The marble and bright red of fresh meat was more than I could ask for. We added a rub the night before and put two layers of wrap to seal in the flavor. Full review: I was looking for a particular meat and couldn't find it anywhere else. I had never been to Keller's before, but it came up in a search, so I went there hoping to find what I needed. I eventually found what I was looking for in the bulk meat area and was surprised by the price- very high. I also picked up a green chile sausage in a different compartment that was also on the pricier side. I know to expect this of local businesses and that the service and quality of their products normally justify the higher cost. Unfortunately that was not the case at Keller's. The staff that I encountered were less than friendly, but helpful enough so I was willing to overlook that too. What I absolutely CANNOT overlook is the very poor quality of the meat I paid a premium for-3 lbs for about $40.00. The green chile sausage was the worst offender. Upon opening the package (white plastic bag, so you can't see what you're buying WITHOUT listed dates and have to be extremely trusting on the reviews of others), I saw that the meat had a grayish brown color and was very fatty. I formed it into patties and cooked it anyway because I didn't want it to go to waste. Coming from a post depression household, this is totally unacceptable and I absolutely hate food waste! The sausage patties shrank to less than half of their original size and the flavor was awful. Not even the hint of green chile or even the typical sausage spices. It tasted very old and I did end up throwing them away partly due to the flavor, but mostly out of health concerns. My recommendation is to avoid the freezer and refrigerated bulk sections of this place and only get the meats that you can clearly see. I cannot comment on the quality of other goods in the market, but will only say that the selections seem limited and the prices are higher than what you would find at a chain. If you value your dollars a little more and want to stretch them as far as you can, pass on this place altogether. The 1 star rating is because they had what I was searching for. read more

Not only was the pickup chaotic, I didn't get a chance to see my order, The next day when I went to serve the turkey, I realized my order was completely wrong. Keller is a "farm to table" type mini-supermarket where you can find a large variety of fine quality meats, including exotic ones. Looking at their website, it appears this business opened up shop in the city around the 60s, but had long attracted customers to their farm to order to get some fresh cuts of meat. The Kellers, very educated in their business, have a long history in farming and transporting and it absolutely shows in the quality that they produce. I even appreciated their ethical standards they aim for.The prices are also very competitive and you are receiving choice or prime standard clean meat. I stopped in today and purchased their marbled Delmonico steaks. We seasoned and threw those bad boys on the charcoal grill and then we were all nearly silent at the dinner table as we devoured it down. We've purchased their Ribeyes before and we've enjoyed those too. The selection of meat is a foodie's dream. Everything from baloney to cut up rabbit, to elk, to sweetbreads, to turkey necks. I love it. The service was attentive and friendly--even got a joke. A lady says, I am not really into seafood and the meat clerk said that you need to have an aquatic taste for it. The store is light bright, clean and organized. A very nice gentleman suggested I come on down to the store to go over what I'd like to purchase, I asked if there was a good time to come down, he said , nope, just come on down. I encountered very rude customer service by the nice gentleman's co worker. I could barely see over the meat counter while explaining what I wanted help with to this female, who looked like we were irritating her by asking is there some place we could sit to go over this $600+ order I wanted. Terrible service. I ordered a 12 lb turkey weeks before thanksgiving. When my husband went to pick it up, the staff had no idea what I ordered and gave him this little 10 lb bird that was all legs. I called and the representative found my order immediately and he confirmed my correct order. He couldn't help me because I took the bird out of the packaging to see if it would be big enough. (This is when I realized it was all legs!) The package's cooking instructions do not even include birds smaller than 12lbs. Why did I even order the bird? Never again. read more

I was given a gift certificate of $250.00 for my retirement. I was told by the staff I could use it anytime. We purchased a turkey on 11/24/2021 for $46.77 with the balance of $203.23, they took my certificate and I was given the receipt with the balance attached. The cashier Tanya said just bring back the receipt and it would be honored. I spoke with Mike the owner and he said I was shit of luck because they don't honor it. They stop taking the gift certificate, I told him I had the receipt with remaining balance. Just FYI they will take your money but will not honor anything or balances. Love this place! I'm new to town and one of my first priorities after moving was to find a butcher that can provide specialty cut meats. My husband and I love to cook unique dishes at home that often require unconventional cuts of meat. I'm so happy we found this place close to our home! After living in Albuquerque for 20+ years I moved to California in 1998. However I have family and friends still here and visit frequently. Grandma is getting up in years so I order the full Thanksgiving meal from KF's to take the burden off. Fabulous meal includes roasted whole Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, vegetable medley, gravy, cranberry sauce, 3 pies and fresh rolls. Also top notch steaks (bone in as well) cut to order. I also purchased a whole 100 lb fully dressed hog to roast for a Super Bowl Party in February 2017 and it was perfect. Great market for fresh meat, especially ones you can't often find easily in the bigger chains such as oxtail, pigs feet, neck/back bone, and so on. They can also ground up meat for you if you prefer not to buy the prepackaged ground meat (so you know exactly what part of the animal you're getting). I was very excited to check this place out as I am from Europe & used to going to the butchers and buying fresh meat and the market to get fresh vegetables and eggs etc. Maybe its because I am expecting something a little more like back home so my standards are already set high I dont know but I really wasn't impressed with this place at all.. Upon walking in the smell was vile, really off putting I put it down to all the meat and tried to ignore it even though I have shopped in many butchers and fresh farm stores and never smelt such an awful stench anyway I tried to just deal with it... We looked around and decided to purchase some sausages so we got the breakfast sausages with Green chillies and some regular sausages to eat for lunch. When we got home we grilled up the sausages but honestly neither me or my husband were particularly impressed by them especially not for the price they were good but not amazing. We prefer the sausages they have at Trader Joes. I cant comment on the other meats they offer as we didn't try any of them, however they do have a good selection.o read more

I went here for one thing, turkey roll. You can get all breast (white) meat or a combo of both. I tend to go for both, as it gives a deeper turkey flavor. I'll be taking it back with me to Los Angeles, as I can't find any out there. At about $5.18 a pound, it is comparable for what you'd pay for a whole turkey, about 1/3 of which you'd throw away. I don't mind paying that kind of money. They have a big variety of meats. I like that they package them in little freezer packets. If I lived in Albuquerque, I'd buy my meats here. They had several specialty foodstuffs. I was impressed at the selection. They had stuff for dietary restricted diets, too. I didn't explore the whole store, but on their website they talk about the specialty cheeses they have. I'm glad I didn't see them, or I would have bought several pounds of different things. The one thing I can complain about and the reason I gave it 3/5 stars is the smell. My mother had mentioned it before I walked in, but there is a peculiar odor in the store. I can't quite put my finger on it. It isn't a rotting smell but it isn't exactly pleasant, either. I picked up some pumpkin bread, at the checkout. It was delicious and not too sweet. Keller's is awesome. An amazing selection of meats and cheeses, as well as other hard to find food and drink goods. And, if you don't find the cut/shape/size of meat you are looking for, just ask and they will cut/shape/size it for you on the spot! They also have an amazing selection of buffalo, elk and other meats. I have yet to find anything that isn't awesome here. And the prices are quite reasonable. Full disclosure - I have not tried any of their seafood. It looks good, but I can't attest directly. If you love your pooch, ask them for bones or meat scraps and they'll set you up with that as well. Or you could just buy him/her one of the grass-fed beef steaks! What, you don't love your dog??
