My neighbor and I share a common sewer pipe. It needed to be cleaned out and we agreed to split the cost. As long as they were coming out I asked them to clean out the line on my property to the common sewer pipe as well as fix a leaky toilet. They agreed. Two guys came out, Tory and Cody. They were very nice and very efficient! As it turns out, my line was clear so nothing was done. The toilet was more complicated, but I don't like that toilet anyway, so I agreed to get a new one and call them to install at a later date. They were on time, explained things, they knew what they were doing, they were nice and polite people. No matter how well a half-hour job is done, you cannot charge a person $290 plus $40 (the 'coming' fee), it's beyond ridiculous. There has to be a differentiation between a 4-hour stopping the flood job and unclogging a small apartment kitchen sink. I spent a lot of time negotiating and talking to Mike to reduce this enormous charge to $241 (which is still way too expensive). Please review your prices. We overpay for services in Calgary, especially in the middle of the crisis when a lot of people are out of work, and cannot afford food. At least request your office admins to inform us about it over the phone, instead of saying: "we have a very competitive prices". I am still in shock. read more

I had storm drain back up at my rental house. I called Mike's plumbing and I was given a quote I am comfortable with over the phone. They wants to rescheduled to the next day on the morning of appointment but they did ask for my permission nicely. Gerry arrived within the time frame of the appointment and put his best effort to open it up with hydro jetting. The final price is the same as original quote without hidden fees or up-sale. We had a clogged sewer that backed up into the bathtub and leaked out from under the toilet in the main bath. Mike's plumbers cleaned the roots and debris out of the long sewer line (we're set way back from the street) and reset the toilet on a new wax ring. We had a water pipe leak and Mike's Plumbing was referred to us. We shared our photos and they quickly give us an estimated quote pending site visit. They referred a leak detection company which is equally proficient. On the same day, Mike's Plumbing sent their staff to check out the leak and give a more accurate quote. They explained the job that needs to be done and promptly came out the next day. Then, they called the city after the repair is done to request for inspection. After confirming that the city personnel has approved the work, their people are back again to cover their work. After waiting for the gravel to set in, they come back one more time to do the cold patch. What started as a stressful event became a great learning experience for us. Their staff are all friendly, customer-focused, great in scheduling and clear in explaining the process. Their quote was also lower than another competitor. Initially through emailed photos, Erik at Mike's plumbing diagnosed why my touch kitchen faucet quit working and let me know about repair and pricing. I decided to buy a replacement manual faucet instead and Abbas and John came out and did that replacement, correcting and improving other undersink connections and unclogged two slow drains while they were here. After each of two sewer backups in less than a year, we were persistent with Mike's Plumbing to try to give a highly rated local company our business. The office and field staff were all very friendly. After the first backup, their scope guy identified a clean out we didn't know we had, saving us a bunch of $ to have a new one installed. At the end of the day, however, this company failed on follow through in identifying the root cause (no pun intended!) of the backups, and failed to provide estimates to solve the problem. After SIX visits within a year to identify the problem, and promised follow ups with quotes, we didn't have any resolution on what the problem was or how to fix it. My sense from other reviews is that this company is very good for straightforward issues, but in our case, they lacked the time, interest and follow through. read more

Our kitchen faucet was leaking from the base, and we were hosting a party in two days, so having working kitchen plumbing was kind of important. I called Day & Nite and Beacon (recommended by friends for quick work), and both were super evasive about pricing, with Beacon being weirdly confrontational about how their $75 dispatch fee IS NOT an estimate cost (so they can legally claim free estimates?). Meanwhile, Mike gave me his hourly rate, his best estimate, and a worst case scenario cost over the phone. Compared to what I've been seeing on Yelp, Mike's projections were all super reasonable.
