I chose Mike's Plumbing because they had a high star rating and many positive reviews in Yelp. During this time when contractors are extremely overloaded with work, Mike's contacted me within hours of my inquiry. I sent them photos and they sent back a bid within hours. I scheduled the work for my water connections, but a few days before the appointment I decided I wanted a bigger job done to include my gas lines. Again, the scheduler asked for a photo of the new work area, and again, within only hours had an updated bid in my inbox. I liked the bid and within hours I had a new, longer appointment date set up to do all the work in one trip. When the new date finally came, Hayden came to the house exactly on time. He was friendly, clean, masked up, and took off his shoes before entering even though I didn't require him to. He worked quickly, competently and clean. I have used Mike's Plumbing & Drain Cleaning twice. The first time, this past spring was a total replacement of my main water line through the front yard. I did plenty of research and got several bids when my main water line broke, ultimately I went with Mikes. They came in middle of the pack on their quote, but clearly knew what they were doing and had an approach that wasn't going to tear up my sidewalk. They were able to respond quickly, both in coming out to provide a quote and scheduling the job. The work was completed quickly, they explained everything I needed to know, and put my yard back as close to how they found it as possible after having to dig a trench through the front yard. I called Mike's Plumbing again this week when my kitchen sink had stopped draining. The woman I spoke with in the office was wonderful working with me to find a time around my work schedule, they were able to send someone out within a day and the employee who came out was professional and efficient. He called 30 minutes prior to arrival to let me know he was on his way and after arriving, he fixed the issue quickly and cleaned up the work space. I had tried to fix my toilet myself which didn't go so well. So I called Mike's Plumbing. I think I talked to them on a Friday and River the technician came on Monday. So pretty fast service for a decent price. This was/is during Covid 19 and River showed up with gloves and a mask which I really appreciated. Will totally use again if the need arises! If you care about money, I suggest going elsewhere. My tankless hot water heater stopped working. Called Mikes. Paid $175 plus tax for them to look at it and tell me it could not be repaired. They then told me a new one would be $3965 plus tax. I questioned that amount because a new one retails at only $1792 with free delivery. It was explained to me that the installation was very complex, would take at least 4 hours, and might require other parts. They installed it in 1 hour 15 minutes. I questioned them about the service charge built in to the bill versus the actual amount of service actually expended. I was basically told to suck it up (my words) because that is just the way it is. I would never pay $2,348 plus tax in labor charges for something that takes an hour and 15 minutes to do plus 2 trips to the house. I needed it done quickly. They took advantage of that and misled me about what was involved in the job that caused me not to get a 2nd bid. I should have called around. read more

I've used Mike's Plumbing on a few occasions. After being ripped off by Beacon over a blocked drain, Mike's couldn't have been a greater contrast. Lining an old ceramic sewer pipe - Beacon wanted $15k to do the job. Mike's did a fabulous job in one day and charged less than half of this. Burst water main - old galvanized pipe. They came within hours, replaced the pipe with a tunneled PVC between the meter and the house. Wind forward a couple of years and I noticed a problem with the repair - they came straight out, found the problem fixed it and didn't even mention charging me for it (I offered to pay something). They were really detailed and thorough, and explained to me what they needed to do to make sure I was ok with where they were putting the new pipes. We had a super back up in the laundry room when the washer tried to empty...we shut everything down and I worked on trying to clear the drain with gel and plunger.... at the same time I had called a few plumbers and received estimates on cost and quickest reaction time. Never again! I loved this business, supported it since 2013, recommended it here and elsewhere. Then I was let down. The long and short is after attempting to grossly oversell and over charge me, I had to fire them in the middle of a job. I'd never done that before. But what a relief to have them off my premises. It is as though some private equity firm bought this lovely family business and sent Tony Soprano to coach them on business ethics and maximizing revenue. I don't know what did happen, but they have changed from great to awful. Overselling, overcharging, employing bullying sales tactics and sending people who've forgotten their manners to deal with customers (prey). I was pleasantly surprised it was the owner Mike. He fixed the sink quickly and I had him take a look at another plumbing issue I was having in the building. I'd heard good things and was looking forward to a more affordable option but nearly got fleeced. The technician was either incompetent or may have been having a slow week and tried to tell me that he couldn't snake the drain, and that the solution would be starting at 5K and a week to complete. What he didn't know was that we'd snaked the drain the year prior (just have issues with a few roots that aren't too bad) combined with kids flushing way too much paper (and possibly wipes). I ignored the scare tactics & got craftsman plumbing out who had no problem snaking, did a scope as well- and saw that there truly are no big issues. Worth spending a bit more for the service you need to get honesty and good service without the scare tactics upsell. read more

My wife and I purchased new appliances from Best Buy. One of which was a refrigerator that has a water/ice dispenser. We needed to get install a water supply line to the refrigerator since there was none existing. So Best Buy sent out their contractor to do the job. When he got there, he stood in our kitchen for 2 minutes, said he couldn't do the job, and didn't know if any kind of plumber could. me: WTH??? I found Mike's plumbing on yelp, and despite of a couple questionable bad reviews, I took a chance on them. There was a little mix up with the scheduling at first, but nothing that was intolerable. Thomas and Steve came out and evaluated the situation. There was no upsale, no added pressure, and no hidden fees. In fact, the job was was done in less than an hour, and the cost was less than half of what was quoted. I hope that if I ever need a plumbing solution again, that I get Thomas and Steve. Such a great experience with a situation that no homeowner is excited to have to deal with. I was given a quote over the phone based on the details that I provided (a leak stemming from the upstairs shower and coming through the kitchen ceiling) and was prepared to pay a chunk of change. It ended up being a quick fix (replacing the bathtub overflow gasket) and only half the amount I was quoted. Not only that, but the technicians MJ and David were as fantastic as could be - incredibly friendly, respectful, and honest about every step of the work they were doing. I had Mike's plumbing out for a second and third time because I didn't realize it at first, but I later discovered that the stopper in our guest bathroom tub had gone missing. It's not been found in our home since their first visit, so I called Mike's Plumbing & Drain Cleaning to request a replacement. Since then I've had them out twice to measure the stopper and replace the bath faucet in both our guest bathroom and our master bathroom. I was originally told that I needed to get a ribbed faucet for our master bathroom tub, which I did at around $50 from another vendor and had Mike's Plumbing out again to install it. I wasn't told that the faucet also needed to be a certain length to clear our soaking tub until Mike's Plumbing was there installing the faucet. Since the individual was there and knew the type of faucet I needed, I would have appreciated being told the appropriate length of the faucet I should have gotten given our tub is obviously larger than standard tubs. That way I could have saved around $50 on the faucet and $115 on their visit which resulted in installing a faucet that isn't appropriately sized. I also still have not received a replacement tub stopper from services rendered in August and have since purchased my own replacement from another vendor. read more

These guys are terrible. I'll share my experience and you can decide if this is a fair review. We had a sewer main break and they came out, scoped the pipe and estimated 5K for the repair. Expensive sure, but not much you can do about it. After they excavated, they discovered additional damage and estimated an additional 4K. This is where things went off the rails. Their estimator spent 10 minutes telling me that I needed Romac couplings and that I needed two of them at a cost of $700 a piece. Not much I can do at this point since our sewer pipes are unearthed and need to be repaired. I authorized the additional work and they completed the work and sent me an invoice. I asked them for a scope video of the completed work and the signed off permit from the City back in 12/16/20. After not hearing anything back from them, I followed up again via email on 1/7/21. At this point I got suspicious and called the City and spoke with the inspector. He told me that the permit was still open and that they had not had the final inspection done. After many calls between Mike's and the City it turns out that they covered up the work without an inspection even though the permit explicitly said "DO NOT COVER UNTIL INSPECTED." One of their guys actually admitted to the inspector that they didn't use the Romac couplings and they used a much cheaper Fernco coupling which does not meet code. I basically forced their hand and made them come back out, re-excavate and use the proper coupling. They claimed they were using inexperienced workers and there was a miscommunication. There is enough evidence to suggest this was not a one-off miscommunication or a case of incompetence but rather a deliberate attempt to take advantage of a homeowner during a desperate situation. The only reason the job was completed properly was because I had to step in and manage the project by coordinating between Mike's and the City. They tried to buy me off by discounting the bill $700. At first I declined the discount but then remembered they actually used only one Romac coupling ($200 their cost by the way, they sent me the receipt). I was told two couplers were needed and am 100% certain that only one was used. So the discount is basically not charging me for a coupler that was never used to begin with. This is like catching a robber in the act and the robber giving back the stolen goods with no further consequence. There is no reason for me to know what the hell a Romac or Fernco coupling is. I believe these guys are crooks and will be reporting them to the BBB and State's Attorney General. read more

I have used Mike's plumbing twice so far, both times with Cody, who is a very knowledgeable, skilled and, most importantly honest young man. The first time was to fix two leaking toilets. He was in and out quickly and did a great job. The second time was to fix a leaking sink. He found that the faucet's pull hose was broken and recommended a new sink which he installed quickly and well. A day later I found there was still a leak under the sink. At first I was angry thinking I just bought a new sink and still have the leak. HOWEVER, this company did everything they could to get Cody back to check it out. Even though he was swamped, he came the next day after his last job which was after 7 pm. He was able to clearly explain that the faucet was definitely the problem, but the remaining leak was just due to a loose valve of the dishwasher connection. He tightened it up and was very sincere in apologizing, even though he did nothing wrong. I definitely recommend this company for their skill and their integrity.
