Well traveled, flavor seeking, good food enthusiast here. I have eaten here a few times and it's just not my cup of tea, I guess. Wait staff is nice, food is delivered promptly and all together to the table, but the food is really BLAND, except for the sausage, which is pretty good taste wise, but a little chewy and tough. Not one single item I have eaten here stands out except the sausage - which was okay, but not anything spectacular. However, I have not found any really good places to eat since moving here. So, in the grand scheme of things, this place hits middle of the row. Not the worst, but not the best. read more

Ate at Mike's. Never in 50 years have I had such terrible service. The waitress was extremely rude and not at all apologetic for being so. I understand in the era of covid that there are hassles that must be dealt with to keep people save. However repeatedly discussing her bad attitude about it is beating a dead horse. The food was stuck to the plate. Just attitude given the entire time. I have extreme patience when it comes to service, I have been in the industry for 30 years. This place ain't what it used to be!!! Have had the Grinders(a menu item from the good 'ol days when Mike actually owned it) and they are good. Anything else I order is a bummer. I've tried a breakfast, and most recently, had a burger. They where terrible!! Horrible taste and they gave me heartburn and the "Urps", you know when your constantly getting tiny burps of your recent meal. The culprit, a dirty grill top. SCRAPE YOUR FLAT TOP!!! I can recognize that taste with my nose plugged.... Almost had to, to finish that burger. I recommend sticking to the grinders, they're as big as your head and there have some solid choices, explore the menu at your own risk. read more

Tiny place, huge portions! The generous dinner entrees come with a bread basket, a loaded salad and a side. To top it off, they offer small desserts after the meal. I've always had great service and it never appears to be crowded in such a small space. The menu and specials are mostly Italian and American fare, with many homemade options. Tip: the house salad comes loaded with canned beans and black olives, so if you are not a fan of either, say something. Overall it is a great place to get a meal at a great price. Extremely disappointed with Mike's, ordered take out yesterday and the waitress forgot the mashed potatoes so my husband had to drive 3 miles back to get them, then the strawberry shortcake was so hard I couldn't cut it with a knife and fork and when I called to complain the lady that answered the phone was very dismissive and rude. I will not be going back to Mike's and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone after yesterdays experience. read more

Very very disappointing. I walked in this restaurant tonight at 8:03 PM. The door was unlocked. I was told they were closed. Now, I realize restaurants have closing times, but please realize there is major road construction out in front of this restaurant, and I can't imagine that their business is doing good. I asked the server if she recommends another restaurant, as she stated "there's Maplewood steakhouse down the road but I don't recommend it". I stood there for about 10 seconds waiting for her to suggest something else, and she said nothing so I said well I guess I'll find something. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. I stopped at Mike's when I was up in Ironwood for a Memorial Day/weekend getaway, and I'm glad I did! The turkey wrap was phenomenal! There was such a generous portion of fries and coleslaw that I was barely able to finish half of the wrap. It made a great snack the next day. The portion size is huge! You will get the worth of your money for sure. I tried the baby beef liver with bacon and onion. It is my first time eating beef liver and I found it to be quite similar to the texture and taste of pig liver. Quite tasty! read more

Compared to your typical small town diner, I really liked this place. They care about there place and the menu isn't too plain. Good diner food and friendly service. Just went there for dinner with my family because of the excellent reviews. Yes, the portion is huge, but food was average. $15 for pub buttered fish n fries, $17.99 for zesty Parmesan chicken. I don't think the price is that good. We also did not see complimentary cake for desert on the menu. We were not offered such cake after dinner either. This obviously is not something they consistently do for customers. So, if you are looking for a free cake after your meal, don't count on it. read more

Touring the U.P. and driving through the area with no pre-selected dinner plans. As we drove by Mike's, we noticed the lot was full of local cars, usually a good sign. We were not wrong. A cozy interior with nice wooden booths, though my supper companion (9 yrs old) and I sat at the counter to watch "part of the action". Service was prompt and friendly, some of the staff was new and being trained. I ordered the meatball casserole which came with a spaghetti starter and salad, which, when served together, made for an impromptu spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were good with lots of melted mozzarella and a nice red sauce. The spaghetti wasn't over cooked, just right, and the salad came with a mix of beans and veggies on top which I am guessing is a local thing, a refreshing take on salad. My companion ordered the meatball soup (special of the day) which was tasty and packed with meatballs, and the pasty. He used the red gravy (ketchup) on the pasty, which otherwise tasted like a classic pasty to me. We were offered complimentary cake for dessert. Bathrooms were clean. Overall, a really nice family feeling to the atmosphere, good food and a decent selection on the menu, fair prices; we got really lucky on just popping in, we hadn't read up on anything in the area prior. Bonus: There is an ambulance company across the street, there's a good chance you could meet a local first responder grabbing a bite to eat at Mike's.
