I took my truck to mikes to get the trans rebuild after losing some gears, when I got the truck back from them the first time it drove great, about 6 months later it blew again, which surprised me as I was told this was a "built" transmission and was supposed to be able to handle more power then what my truck has, I called into the office and explained what was going on and they said to go ahead and bring it in and it will be covered under warranty, I brought the truck in and let them do there thing, about 3 days goes by and I called to check in only because when I dropped the truck off there was no one there and I asked again if it was still under warranty and they told me yes it was, about 2 weeks had went by and I called again to get an update and they said the truck was done, I didn't get a phone call from them saying it was done I had to get ahold of them which seemed weird to me, then they said it was going to be $3500 because "they could tell I was beating on it" I drove the truck hardly and when I did it was to work a few minutes down the road or to town, I went to their shop after that phone call and after learning all the work they did to my truck was illegal due to the fact I didn't agree to the price before they had done the work nor had I signed any paperwork approving them to work on my vehicle and charge me, after I explained this information to Mike he screamed "you can have your f*cking truck back", went inside grabbed the keys and quite literally threw them at me and told me to leave. Since then I've had to replace my torque converter (that they supposedly replaced) ,my trans shift solenoid, and flex plate (that they failed to tell me was cracked). I don't suggest anyone take anything to Mike I wouldn't trust him to work on a rock, horrible work, Mike and his crew are very very rude and they shouldn't have the ability to legally work on vehicles, worst $8,000 I've ever spent. read more

I don't usually leave reviews like this but I finally am after having to rebuild one of this "business's" transmission for the THIRD TIME. Their "fully built" transmission (that costed $8k) only lasted 6 months with normal daily driving (to and from work and nowhere else). They agreed to warrenty the transmission then when no contact after we dropped off the truck (which we also signed NOTHING when we dropped it off). After we tried calling them multiple times we finally got word the truck was done, only for them to ambush us when we arrived with a 3k bill. We signed nothing, agreed to nothing, and they still went into "fixing" our transmission and charging us for it while originally stating it was covered under warranty. This is one of the absolute worst transmission businesses I have ever seen, and as someone who was raised around building and repairing transmissions I will 100% say they cut corners and cheap out when building these transmissions. From a faulty torque converter that literally exploded and/or shattering two flex plates (one of which we also had to repair after the one they installed had cracks when we got it back from "warranty") to fried shift solenoid packs, they seems to only choose and install parts that save them money and cost you more. Do NOT do business with this company, and if you already have I recommend you getting their work replaced. Their staff are also incredibly unprofessional, going to the point of their owner screaming "take your f*cking truck" and throwing our keys at us when we brought up how ILLEGAL it is to perform work without consent. I'm 40 years old and still own my first truck. I dust it off, clean it up, and drive it to town about once a month to keep it fresh. It's not a show truck, but it's clean, and it means the world to me. Recently, the trip to town was not exciting... the transmission began slipping. No panic or worries, the truck is 48 years old, and to knowledge, the transmission has never been rebuilt...it was time. I initially called 6 local shops(within 30 miles) for details, services, pricing, and general information. I wasn't overall concerned with pricing. My old truck was worth making right no matter what. After speaking with them, I narrowed it down to 2 choices. Not knowing the quality or longevity of their work, it was somewhat of a gamble either way. I decided on one, and called back to schedule a drop-off time. The owner himself and I had a decent conversation. The next day, my wife took the transmission in to be dropped off. (I work full-time). The next call I receive is from my wife telling me a horror story of events. Here is her account of the event. I drove up to this establishment and was told to back my truck to the garage door. I said hello to everyone with a smile. Right off the bat one of the guys who unloaded the transmission said in a very smart-alec tone "Don't nobody know how to drain a transmission these days" while I was standing right next to him. I informed him that the fluid was drained as much as possible (we don't own the equipment to do a thorough job). I was instructed to see the lady in the office. I walked in and the lady says flatly "How can I help you". She got my information and I asked when the owner would be back. She said I could wait. I then asked her for a receipt or piece of paper indicating the fact they received the transmission and the price. She answered with "Well I don't know how much it's going to cost!!!" I told her the price that was discussed and she responded, again very rudely, "If that's what he said then he'll stand by it!!" I walked out to sit and wait for the owner. At this point, I am going to speak to the owner no matter what with all the smart-alec and rude dealings I've had. After 10-15 min I went back into the office and asked if we could get ahold of him. Again more rude answers. I walked out and down came the owner. At this point, I'm not feeling like this is going well but I am a 'benefit of the doubt' kind of person, employees are employees. I happily introduce myself and tell him why I'm there and that I just had a couple of questions for him. I asked my 2 questions which he blew off with short answers and treated me like I'm an idiot. I inform him of his employee being a smart-alec and he laughed it off. Then I ask about reinstallation and if there was anything special I need to know and he says Very smart-alec "Well it's gonna need fluid in it". I then ask for the receipt I asked the rude lady in the front for and he laughs saying "Well that's just silly, but yeah I guess". I ask why is it silly and he turns abruptly, gets about 2 feet in front of my face, and says "Lady we ain't in town!" I say that I can see that. He follows up with, "I ain't no crook!!" I told him I never said that. He says "Then why the hell do you want that then?!" I inform him it's for my records, just something I get when I drop something important off. He laughs mockingly again turns and hollers "Yeah let's go make something up for you!!!" speaking to me as if I'm a child. Up until this point I have kept my calm but that was it. I immediately said "Nope! You can load it back in my truck!" He says "Alright then!" I back up my truck and end up having to help another employee get my transmission loaded. The utter disrespect and condescension from the owner was absolutely Astounding!! I'm proud of my wife for having the fortitude to not leave the transmission there. Shame on you Mike Mcgee and your staff at Mike's Trick Shift for treating potential customers with such disrespect and hostility. read more

Mikes trick shift is a hidden gem for those of us wanting a no frills transmission shop that gets the job done. He was referred to me by Mad Matts Diesel service when my Tranny went out on my F-250 4X4. Mike rebuilt the transmission & told me up front the cost with an upgraded torque converter & heavy duty rebuild. 3 days later I get a call its ready to go. Mike showed me all the bad parts & gave me the info on the mods done to the valve body to improve the shifting. I noticed a new leak on my driveway and was recommended to Mike. I took it in one morning and they reported that I had a crack in the extension housing of my transmission they repaired it that day and were very reasonable and very knowledgeable. I had my Silverado rebuilt by Mike and am thrilled about the work he has done to it. He even helped me out and fixed my oil leak for me. Great guy and if you have any transmission issues bring your ride to him. It took some time for him to work my vehicle in but guess what the good mechanics are always busy! Well, here is my husband's story as to not use them. So, my husband and i pay 2800 for this shop to redo his transmission back in May of this year. A week later there is an issue with the truck and he takes it back. We are already assuming somone broke it installing it back into the truck. The transmission is leaking fluid (mind you, it wasn't doing this prior to being dropped off at the shop) and so forth but the shop says it isn't covered under warranty and they didn't cause the issue. They recommend a different shop, my husband takes it there and they say it is a part he can replace. We pay to replace the part, but now there is another issue. Yet again not covered. They are blaming my husband for cracking the transmission housing which he did not do. The owner says that the other shop saw the crack when my husband took it to them back in May. He calls the shop and confronts them and they said no they did not see the crack. So bascially the owner just threw the other shop under the bus and he saw the crack in May.The transmission had been leaking since the shop touched it. We believe a worker broke the housing and is not owning up to his mistake. The worker's mistake is now costing us over $7800. Fantastic. We DO NOT recommend Mike's Trick Shift whatsoever. read more

Well the Sierra that is on here complaining doesn't know the whole story. The truck came in with a broken housing and bent front axle. Because he told Mike that he had been jumping with it. Sierra was only this guys gf. They were not married at the time. She had no right to complain. The truck belonged to the guy. Mike has a warranty of 2 years 24,000 miles. If he was to contact Mike and let him know. Mike could have fixed it. Was not enough communication. It was still the guys fault because he tore it up. We have been in business for over 25 years. Mike is well known in the Community. Please don't bash him over something you know nothing about. read more
