We stopped in for lunch. We have been by this place many times but never stopped until today. I did look at what fellow yelpers have to say but didn't let the three star average deter me. Besides it was really convenient to pull in off the highway and there is plenty of parking. Well three stars is all I can give them too. I had the ribs and was a little disappointed in them. I think they had let the outside of them dry out while they were cooking and then put sauce on them to try to moisten them back up. And that just doesn't work! They were fairly tender after you got past the dry part. Also they didn't have hardly any smoke flavor either. The sides weren't anything special. I imagine most of them came right off the Sysco truck. The wife had the bbq chicken and she too was underwhelmed. We will try some other place next time through here. read more

Stopped by this place to try the smoked barbecue. I had brisket and it came with 3 side dishes. I tried the rice salad, corn, and mashed potato with it. The meat was ok, but nothing exceptional. For the sides, the rice salad was not that good, and the corn and mashed potato were actually good. In general, it appears to be a fair place to have a meal. I wish I had the buffet that looked good, but I got there when they had stopped serving it. However, for the price, it may be a good option. Maybe I will try it someday. read more

Grew up eating here, moved outta state and always want to eat here when visiting. Love getting a chopped bbq sandwich and sweet tea. Some brisket and sausage too, with banana pudding for dessert. Just made myself hungry all over again. If you're randomly going down highway 59 in TX stop by and grab a bite to eat! read more

The BBQ was pretty underwhelming, I think they use canned tomato soup for BBQ sauce.. That's what it tastes like. The portion sizes were big and that's always a plus, three sides to a meat! They have many different kinds of bread and jerky that looked good but I can't speak for because I didn't get to try. I probably wouldn't come back again for the BBQ but if I wanted some flavored breads I'm sure they are good. read more

The best I can say about stopping here is that the beef had acceptable flavor, it was not overly dry. The canned green beans were the only side we ate. It was not a welcoming atmosphere, we felt like we were intruding by being in the restaurant there were seven people were workng in the restaurant and not one smiled or greeted us. There was one other table in the restaurant while we were there. I am so glad I asked for the bbq sauce on the side or I would not even had a sandwich to eat. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. The place was almost empty, which should have been an indicator. We tried the ribs, sausage and brisket. Meats had very little flavor at all. Needed more seasoning and smoke. And they were all served cold. The sides tasted like they were all either canned vegetables or straight from Sysco. Kind of expensive for the quality. I never know whether it'll be as good at the last time. Brisket and sausage are always kind of dry. Their saving grace I think is their buffet and their amazing sweet tea. Just don't go here. Seriously, people from Texas know good BBQ, and this was not good BBQ. I wanted to get a chopped beef sandwich until I saw the chopped beef...I had to ask if that's what it was because it looked like a big cow patty (poop). I opted for the sliced beef instead. Meat was bland, hardly any flavor. We tried both the sliced beef and the sliced pork. Sauce was strange. The sides were DISGUSTING. We think they all came straight from a can. Not much love went into making the side items. I took one bite of the green beans and one bite of the pinto beans and didn't have anymore after that. Seriously save yourself from this meal, it's nothing to write home about. People that have rated this place with 4 or 5 stars have very low BBQ standards I can tell you that. read more

Absolutely delicious barbecue! I've tried their brisket and ham--both are excellent choices. I also love their potatoes with onions; the perfect pairing. The decor is very small town Texas which just lets you know this is real Texas barbecue. There is also a location in Columbus so make sure to make room for it on road trips to Austin/San Antonio too. read more

My husband and I ate at Mikeska's BBQ in El Campo today and not only was the counter help rude, but the food was horrible I had the deluxe platter with sausage and corn and mashed potatoes and beans and a salad with ranch dressing and the potatoes were horrible they tasted like they had been sitting out all day and they were nasty and the ranch dressing was old and the bread was dried out!! I won't ever recommend this place to anyone and I definitely won't be back!! Now I know why there was no one else eating there!! read more

I coordinate bus tours to Louisiana from The Rio Grande Valley, and we have used Mikeska Barbeque for the past 7 years. Not only are the owners the most nicest people in the world, they take care of my passengers and their service is fast . Their prices are reasonable and their food is delicious. They have a variety of animals ( taxidermy) . They range from deer, fox, moose, bear, you name it they have it.. My passengers enjoy close ups of these animals and take pictures of them. Probably be the only time I will ever get close enough to a bear. My passengers always look forward to eating there and never have had any complaints from one passenger.
