The first time I stopped at Ohl's for Bar-B-Q, I ordered sliced brisket. It was really like leather; tough and overly lean for my TMJ. So I put the brisket in a chopper made chopped beef sandwiches. I talked to my brother about the meat and he told me "the next time order brisket from the "moist" end." The second time, I stopped at Ohl's I ordered from the moist end and the chewability was a little better (20.00 a pound). The meat had a nice smokey charcoal grill flavor, not like some bbq'ers who boil the meat first and then put t on the grill. I like the sausage (8.00 a link). I use it in my sea food gumbo. Oh, when opening the door to Ohl's, make sure you look down and watch your step. You could trip and fall. read more

I came by for the first time on a trip through Needville recently. I ordered ribs and sliced beef - as well as some beef and some chicken jerky. I had high hopes after the reviews here! The ribs were good! But the sliced beef was too lean and leathery. Not really tender at all. I wish I had gotten chopped beef and asked for the less lean part. The beef jerky tasted ok, but was too salty and very tough. The chicken was also salty, but a nice texture. I was really hoping for better... A quaint little place. I would definitely recommend stopping if you happen to come to this side of Texas. We ordered the baked potato plate with sausage and the sliced beef sandwich. Both were equally delicious. The baked potato plate served up a hefty portion of all ingredients- definitely no skimping. The sandwich was really good, and I enjoyed the BBQ sauce. It's a pretty good little spot, great for picking up orders and taking out for a picnic or supper. read more

Walking in the door is like stepping back in time. Several people picking up bbq but I'm only on the quest to find the best jerky in Texas. This place might be the holy land of Smokey goodness. Ohl Style beef jerky is a must when I go to Needville. Hands they have the best beef jerky in Texas. We always get the spicy beef jerky and it's always been consistently awesome. They do have bbq plates and hear the bbq is really good but we have never tried it. read more

About 5 minutes from I69. Straight shot down a country road with a 90mph speed limit (posted 65mph) until flashing red light in town, take left park anywhere. Small shack looking place next door to a morgue. When I walked in I was asked "Can I help you?" After looking around I said "It depends, do you have food?" They do. (It does not look like it) I was then told "shut the door, I have the AC on." So remember to do that, unless you were brought up in a barn, like me. Ordered the baked potato with everything on it and though I did not ask for it, I believe I also got ALL the sour cream . (See picture ) I asked if he had seats ? (I figured out back) He said you can eat there (pointed to a small table with 3 small chairs and a bunch of stuff on it) I told him" I will take it to go." Got the potatoe, drink, 2 small bags of jerky and went back to the truck to eat. When I got in I think I broke a spring in my seat, the potato is that heavy! I finished it, but I was stuffed. I would recommend this place as they have other bbq menu items, but count on eating elsewhere. Are there better BBQ places? I would think so, but given this location it is worth a try. Worst service that I have ever had!!!! The person who worked the counter acted like I was nothing but a big distraction. I came in at a little past 5pm to order a sandwich. There was no one in front of me and no one behind me. When I ordered I must have been speaking some foreign language. Because he could not understand that i wanted sliced brisket chopped up. Not the chopped crap that has been sitting God knows how long. Freshly chopped is not asking for to much. read more

This tiny place is a little off the beaten path but SO worth it every time! The bbq plates or sandwiches are always fresh, juicy, and delicious. Our family stocks up on the jerky so we always have some on hand. You've got to try this! read more

By far best beef jerky ever in the world. I order online by the pound yes it is salty and have a lease smokey but now I won't eat any other kind of beef jerky. Nothing comes close to this slightly morning stud exploding what flavor protein packed fresh vacuum sealed treat!!! And this is coming from a beef jerky connoisseur. Holy moly roly poly is this place GOOD...what's going on in Needville? I've never had a bad meal here...wife and I tried this place during the citywide garage sale this past weekend and we're blown away by the sandwiches (me: pulled pork; her: chopped beef)...asked for a sample of the jalapeño cheddar summer sausage, ended up buying a half link (and it only lasted a day, heh heh)...best summer sausage I've EVER had... ...I sure am glad my food encounters are usually good ones, I have been pretty darn blessed tha,.t way...I will DEFINITELY be coming back here again when I am back in Needville... Driving through Texas from San Antonio, we asked the lady at the gas station down the street where to go for BBQ. She recommended Ohl Style Beef Jerky, specifically the loaded baked potato with chopped BBQ beef. She's right! It's AMAZING (and only $7?!).
