My receipt comes back saying no onion after ordering extra and nothing about dry. So they had to remake the burger and give a proper receipt. Everything was a big production, a comedy of errors by a completely clueless and incompetent crew with no adult supervision. I ate my burger while waiting for my shake and it was good. But I surely wouldn't recommend using the drive thru. Yelp was down for service else I'd have checked in. The business shares a spot with Subway and was hard to find as signage is poor despite being near the freeway.

The meat was a touch dry, but I was there midafternoon when chicken wasn't moving fast. I still found it very tasty. The fries were quite fresh, hot, and delicious. I'm a little suspicious of the seasoned salt they used, since MSG gives me a headache, but no headache so far and they tasted great. The roll was the standard boring white bread throwaway. After waiting in line, I was abruptly told they "don't carry that anymore" with no apology, explanation, or attempt to help. I wasn't offered alternatives or recommendations--just told to pull forward. When I asked to cancel the order, I was incorrectly told I had to do it myself through the app. When the app instructed me to call the store, I did--only to be given conflicting information again and told it had already been canceled, which made no sense given what I had just been told. The person I spoke to claimed to be the manager but clearly did not understand the cancellation process. Later, the actual manager called me. Instead of listening to my experience, she immediately minimized it, interrupted me repeatedly, and talked over me while defending the employee. I was never allowed to fully explain what happened, despite being asked to do so. Limited-time items being unavailable happens--that's understandable. Being dismissive, providing incorrect information, and refusing to listen to a customer is not. With so many food options available, I won't be returning to this location or any others ran by the same general manager.

Their burgers have a striking resemblance to Burger King's trusty ol' whopper. Sesame bun, beef patty, pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato, and mustard. Their burgers are on the bigger side, but do not come with mayo or cheese (upon request only). Fries are thinly cut and perfectly crispy--sounds a lot like McD fries, and guess what, taste like them too! They offer both regular and spicy ketchup (not spicy at all). Call me crazy, call me uncultured, but this is a Jersey girl's honest opinion of Whataburger. Must try if you are visiting the Lone Star State!

Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!
