After being shut out last night at another Beverly takeout joint that inexplicably closed early, I stopped at Mikey's and brought home a large roast beef sandwich that was truly hefty, some hand-breaded onion rings, and a meatball sandwich that was exceptionally delicious, every bit as good if not superior to Lena's meatball sandwich. Who would've thought that a place that specializes in roast beef sandwiches and pizza and that offers about 9000 other items would make such delicious meatballs? It surely does seem as though Mikey's has alot of bases covered. Don't just take my word for it. Go get their meatball sandwich and find out for yourself. They get 2 stars because you can't mess up a premade Greek Salad. 1. I was the only person in the store and the older woman behind the counter was rubbing her face with stress pushing me to figure it out. 2. After I ordered 2 salads I asked if it would be ok to add tuna and she got an attitude and threw the salads back at the guy behind the counter. 3. I could see she was overly stressed about nothing so I told her to just have them put the tuna in a separate container. She was less pissy after that. 4. The salad was actually alright but the Tuna was substandard mayo sludge. My fault for not asking for a sample before agreeing to the Tuna like I usually do. 5. Ended up tossing the tuna and deciding the next day today to post a review. Mikey's needs to step it up, lose the attitude and be cool to the customers. Yes, and use less mayo with better tuna. Not bad, fast, and consistent "Greek" style pizza -slightly less thick and oily than typical "house of pizza" style Greek pizza. Huge menu, with all kinds of nonsense on it. Nothing is going to blow you away, but nothing is going to be bad. That's always the case with places that have 200 frozen things on the menu; generic tasting but stable sodium bombs. I haven't had a roast beef sandwich, but I intend to eventually. Have to wait for my iron to drop before I chow on mammal. A 3 banger might not sound like I'd be back much, but it's so convenient and fast for okay pizza, that I'll just keep buying a couple pies here and there. Short review: -Awesome and delicious freshly prepared food. -Several registers to provide quick service with an always friendly employee behind them. -Have gone 4 times within the last couple months and every single time was a 5 star experience! The long version!!: My fiancé was introduced to Mike's by a co-worker right before the holiday season. The co-worker shared the Greek salad with steak tips and she was hooked immediately. We had Mike's together soon after so she could rope me in as well. The Greek salad is huge with a great portion of freshly prepared steak on top. The house dressing is the way to go and what's awesome is they also provide you a pita bread free of charge. Quickly it seemed every other day we were craving something from Mike's. I've tried the salad and the regular roast beef so far ( the salad keeps bringing back) and both were really delicious. I can't wait to try a cold sub as I've seen then prepared and they look awesome. The food really is high quality and the place itself has tons of seating. As you walk in there is a big variety of chips and drinks to choose from as well. I'm looking forward to becoming a regular here! read more

Although I've been going here for a long ime (and thought the food was good for quick take out, but not exceptional), I will never go back again. This is because the older woman with an accent, who may be the owner, was incredibly rude to me. Most of the people there have been nice, but this person takes the cake in the ignorance department! All I did was call to tell them that I got the wrong order, and I got lambasted by this witch. She basically told me that I was wrong, and proceeded to interupt me when I tried to tell her about my order being wrong, and that I was really looking forward to what I had ordered. We ordered this evening and then unexpectedly had a death in the family. When on the phone trying to cancel about 5 min after we placed our order, the woman on the phone accused me of lying and said it was "convenient" of an excuse and that "if we had been at hospice, why were we ordering food". How awful that we had a tragedy occur, and we were met with accusations of lying. We always order from Mikey's, and have never had any issues. Lifetime resident of BevTown here and this is the best beef I've ever had. Bar none. Haven't had beef this tasty since the early days of North Beverly Roast beef. Heaping helpings of beef, doused in sauce, rare, tender, tasty. Onion roll on the super beef wasn't dried out and tasteless. This has surpassed Supreme's in my book. I'm not going to comment on the atmosphere of a roast beef joint. If you're looking for 5-star service and decadence from a beef joint then you're a tool and shouldn't be allowed to procreate. I've been here a bunch of times now and I honestly just haven't been given a reason to not give this place 5 stars. I'll just start by saying that I'm the type of reviewer who is not going to take 1 star away from a roast beef joint that is primarily for take-out and delivery for anything related to atmosphere - that's ridiculous. I've ordered a few things from here: (1) Buffalo Chicken Calzone, (2) Super Beef (with sauce and cheese), and (3) Onion Rings. The Buffalo Chicken calzone is awesome! The Super Beef was an onion roll piled high with delicious roast beef topped with delicious sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. I honestly think that, all things considered (price and quality) this place has the edge over Nick's as far as roast beef is concerned. Finally, the onion rings - no complaints here. They weren't the frozen "Ore-Ida" style onion rings but seemed hand battered - anyways, they were good! And to the people complaining about the woman at the register....toughen up. I mean; come. on. Yeah, she may not feign delight like the maitre d at the fancy french restaurants I'm suuuuure you all go to, but please. Toughen up, state your order in a clear voice, and be polite. First problem order mozzarella sticks. When our order was ready I asked where are they. And told me no you did not order them. No worries. However the other girl at the counter said i was there you did not order them. Her tone was argumentative. The both said we will put the order in. It gets better we sit down to eat and the place has a overabundance of houseflies. We not talking 1 or it was 2 between 10 to 15. Today was a supremely disappointing experience at mikeys roast beef. Ive lived in Ryal Side my entire life and have loved this place. Best roast beef, great chicken kabobs, amazing cheeseburgers-BUT the chicken broccoli ziti and garlic bread are AWFUL. My past is over cooked and burnt, the grilled chicken tastes like it came off a kabob salad, and my garlic bread is flat, cold, and rubbery. There is no garlic or olive on the pasta. I would not recommend this dish to anyone it is so bad. I paid $11 to eat broccoli and chicken for lunch today. No bueno! read more

After eating here I want to demote my rating for Nick's roast beef to a 3 star. First off Mikey's building is a shit hole. The place doesn't look clean or close to sanitary. The help is... Angry. I've been in a couple of times and I have to question exactly how hungry I am and if I want to deal with the unpleasant atmosphere. I'd certainly never eat in, but that seems to be the way you get decent service. You can get a variety of subs, pizzas or roast beef here. It's all pretty standard fair but the beef is moister and better than Nick's the bun is lacking and they DRENCH it in sauce. I ask for light sauce and it's still too much. I'd ask for it on the side but I'm afraid. Seriously, when I asked for light sauce I thought the bleach blonde lady was going to come over the counter. On the upside the roast beef was moist, rare and good. The bun soft and okay but not great and not toasted. The sauce is sickeningly sweet but tangy too. The first trip there was simply too much of it. The second the light sauce was better but still too much for my taste. I noticed a large stand mixer in the back, meaning they make their own pizza dough. Which makes me want to try the pizza. It's better than McDonald's in a pinch and the beef is better than Nick's. But the service is what kills this place. I refuse to eat in at a place where I'm treated like crap and I'm afraid the ceiling is going to cave in on my head just so I might be treated slightly better. *** Added we got a Mikey's pizza and it was just okay. Dough tasted like it was frozen and not made there, it was soft squishy white bread type dough, just meh. Sauce was perfect and they used really good cheese. Great toppings on a meh crust. So sad. Better pizza at 4 other places close by for a similar price. Won't get pizza here again. read more

This place is just OKAY. The roast beef is good but that's about it. We ordered a bacon pizza well done, a wrap and a salad---when we got the pizza it was not well done at all and there was about one dime size piece of bacon on each slice.... Seemed cheap on purpose because it was basically a cheese pizza we paid extra for. Wrap was not cut, which is a personal pet peeve and when we asked for extra feta for the salad the woman at the counter rolled her eyes and said "really". The woman at the counter is really my biggest criticism of Mikey's and is exactly why I will not be returning. She is so incredibly rude every time I, or any of my family members, go in. Her rudeness varies from unappreciated comments to completely ignoring customers at the counter even when the men in the back point them out. She just does not seem to like her job and if they insist on keeping her working there they should put someone else up front and move her out back read more

So I absolutely love the beefs here, but last time I went I was more in a buffalo chicken mood so I got a buff chicken calzone. It was absolutely delicious although I ordered and PAID for blue cheese and when I got home I realized there was none :-( That was highly disappointing. Roast beef aside, this is a sub shop. You can order pizza, salads, subs, dinner plates of this and that. Two items on the menu are focused on roast beef: a sub and a dinner plate. The plate includes fries and onion rings I think. I ordered the RB sub, with lettuce and tomato. Some people get mayo with their beef. I usually order one of two things when I go there.. either the Buffchick Calzone, or the Hamburger special. Both are EXCELLENT. The Buffchick is STUFFED with chicken and cheese, and cooked perfectly. A small would feed two people, no problem (I eat it all.. HAHA) The Cheeseburger special is way better then any burger you can get at the Mc-Dick's down the street, and cheaper. They also give you a bag of fries with it. Literally, a bag of fries. The fries aren't as good as Mc-Dougals, but they're pretty good. Not soggy, very crispy. My friends and co-workers usually get the steak and cheese, and that's all they get. Apparently it's pretty good, I've never had it, it looks good though (doesn't look like it'd beat the steakncheeses in my area though). I don't have a problem with the service here, yeah the lady behind the counter looks like she wishes she was somewhere else, but what do you expect? She's serving a bunch of a-holes like me and my buddies lunch everyday. read more

I can't comment on many items on the menu because I've only had the broccoli bites, chicken fingers and a pizza. The pizza was average. However, I recently got another small order of broccoli bites (which are very good), and I must admit they're a bit pricey for what you get: 7 small "bites" for $6.76. That's almost $1 per bite. And when I ask for extra marinara sauce, I was given a small plastic container which probably holds an ounce or 2. This cost-cutting is obvious, making the customer feel deprived. They can do better, considering their following, which is large. There's always a line at lunch time. As for the often-mentioned "lady at the counter," she reminds me of the cafeteria lunch ladies when I was a kid. They weren't chatty, but they delivered the goods. I really should give this one star but I won't because the women behind the counter was nice and it wasn't all her fault. I waited 10-15 mins JUST for a chicken salad. I watched a ton of other people walk in and out with there food. I understand that this shop is mostly a sub shop, but 10-15 mins for a salad is crazy. I hate to do this, but this place has seriously gone downhill. First off...they REFUSE to give you a total when you call in an order. The excuse is always "we're too busy". When you get there the joint is empty. It would be one thing if their prices matched what was online or their menu. You get there or answer the door for the delivery guy and the price is significantly higher than what you expected it to be. They raised their prices twice last year and are now charging $6.75 for a roast beef. This is almost $2.00 more than what it was earlier in the year. 3 times we've tried to get an updated menu from them and they always claim to be out. The other issue is that the orders are constantly wrong and when you say something about it, they get pissy and tell you that you made the mistake. Tonight for example.....i ordered a Super Beef Plate with cheese and sauce on the side. I went to pick it up and he handed me only a sandwich. I said, I ordered a plate. He argued that I didnt and gave me a real attitude. Then he tells me i owe him $6 more. The price differential was $3.25, yet he refused to ring it in or even add it up on a calculator. Thought I should share my experience at Mikey's Roast beef in Beverly on Elliot St. My husband and I decided to go get a late lunch there. We ordered a small cheese pizza, curly fries, and a roast beef sub. Before I go off here, I should note, I have never had an issue here and have ordered here quite frequently in the past! Today we say down to eat, ate a few bites of the sub, and looked down and there was a hair in my food, a hair that is Definitely NOT MINE. I bring the sub up to counter to show them what was in there. Instead of making the situation correct from the start, the woman decided to argue with me! I pulled the hair out, and she goes, "that's not a hair, that is part of a mushroom skin." Now I am a food and cooking lover, however I have never seen a mushroom with a hairy skin on it. I proceeded to tell her this, and yet she still decided to argue with me. I asked kindly to be reimbursed for my sub, plain and simple. Not that hard of a request after finding hair in your food! She says "I'm not refunding you for your food! We can remake it." I never asked for my whole order to be refunded, I only asked for my sub to be refunded. At this point I just wanted to leave because I was so upset with the fact that a food service place was arguing with a customer about hair!
