We came here on 10/28 for our first wedding anniversary dinner. Starting with the bread.. the butter that they give you is amazing and creamy. My lobster bisque had me wanting more. My husband got the pasta and ate almost the whole bowl. The steak bites had a mesquite flavor to them but they were good to. I felt like our server was stretched a little thin but overall good place.

My visit, with a party of 3, tonight was AMAZING! Our seat was so cute. We were on the edge of the patio with perfect view of everything. We sat and listened to piano bar style music. Lots of American standards with Tony Gallo singing a few songs. Our waitress, Polly, was great. She gave us our choice of water, ( which I loved the choice)explained the cheese and charcuterie plate and oysters. The food was incredible. We started with the bacon clam chowder. It had the perfect smoky taste with clams in every thick spoonful. The chicken was great. It had a very crispy skin with a honey lemon sauce. It was served with potatoes, and arugula. The whole think had a perfect lemon taste The crab cake cake sandwich was very good. Seasoned perfect. There were good size chucks of crab. The coating and fry was perfect. It was served on a brioche roll. It was huge. I ended up only using 1/2 of the roll. The sweet potato fries were very good. They were almost double with fries. Crispy on the outside and softer on the inside. I forgot to ask for tarter sauce. But it had a aioli with a slight kick The Lobster Flatbread was amazing. The fig jam was my favorite Desert was my favorite. We split the Molton Lava cake and creme Brule. The custard was perfect temperate the crunchy sugar crunch was the texture my tongue needed to finish my meal. The cake left me speechless. I can't wait to go back and try the rib eye

I was there this past Sunday. It was a beautiful day out and so we wanted to sit outside. It was about 2:00 in the afternoon. It was not crowded, at least not outside and it was near the end of brunch. The hostess was lovely and the waitress was really nice too. We ordered a cheese plate to come out 1st and then 2 meals, 1 was a salad one with eggs. The cheese plate came out and we had no plates or silverware or napkins so we started eating with our hands I finally was able to flag the waitress over and ask for silverware which she promptly gave us. I had to ask another waitress to find out when our meals were coming out. We ended up waiting over an hour for our meals which I think was absolutely absurd given that it was not busy and towards the end of brunch. I was never asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee, which was served luke warm. The food was mediocre at best. The eggs (huevos ranchero) were warm, not hot and just OK, nothing special at all. Beans tasted like they were right out of a can. My mom had the salad and she said it was ok. So not coming back any time soon. This was my 1st time.

The Piano Bar at The Beacon. Always a good time.

There's no other place on the north shore of Boston that offers nightly entertainment with a menu that rivals anything in the city of Boston. The cocktails are creative and delicious with just the right amount of booze and the staff bends over backwards to provide excellent service. Enjoy!

The food was very good, and I thought my Steamed Mussels might have been the very best version of a favorite dish I ever had. The view of the harbor from the back counter was beautiful. But..........there were a lot of buts. First of all, The Barnacle is not a large restaurant, and the dining room was so crowded, with tables and chairs so densely packed into every square inch it's really quite difficult to navigate your way around the room. In fact, after we were seated at that back counter, a server asked us if we could slide over because another patron couldn't maneuver herself into an open seat. We placed our order - a cup of clam chowder ($8), fish tacos ($14.95), and those fabulous Steamed Mussels ($18.95). And then we waited. And then we waited some more. And then the couple who sat next to us hadn't seen a server yet, so the gent walked over to the bar to get his own beer. And then we waited some more. And then our server sheepishly walked over and said she never got around to placing our order with the kitchen, so would we mind reminding her what we ordered? Now look, we had no appointment to keep and didn't mind the view of the scenery. But truthfully, the wait and delay did slice into a big chunk of our metered parking fee. And it sure would have been nice to see their service lapse translate into some tangible consideration. How about a complimentary appetizer, drink, dessert, or a cost reduction or anything. But no, there was no consideration given at all. No attempt to make things right. I'd say forgetting to place an order and not realizing the mistake for half an hour is a fairly serious issue. A waterside restaurant on a hot day really should have done a better job with the crowd, and they clearly weren't up to the task. But... those plump heavenly mussels in a sweet, herb and garlic broth were divine, and influenced my rating decision for a four-star experience.

After waiting about 20 minutes, we were finally seated. Despite that rocky start, the food was so outstanding that we ended up coming back every single day during our stay in Salem. The biggest inconsistency was the service. Out of the four days we visited, only one day stood out as having exceptional service. Most of the time we had to flag someone down for drink refills, order more oysters, ask for Parmesan cheese, or even leave our credit card hanging off the edge of the table before someone would notice we were ready to pay. Now, onto the food because that's what kept bringing us back. The clam chowder and lobster bisque were the true stars of the menu. These are the kinds of soups you'll still be thinking about long after your vacation is over. The lobster bisque was unbelievably rich, creamy, and packed with generous pieces of lobster. The clam chowder had the perfect consistency and, unlike so many others, was loaded with tender clams instead of mostly potatoes. The one-and-a-half-pound lobster was sweet, tender, and practically melted in my mouth. I wasn't in love with my pasta dish. The scallops, however, completely stole the show. They tasted as though they had been pulled from the ocean just moments before being cooked perfectly fresh, sweet, and delicate. Unfortunately, the pasta itself was undercooked and lacked flavor, even after the Parmesan cheese finally arrived. The strawberry shortcake was the perfect dessert on a hot Fourth of July afternoon. It was light, fresh, and exactly what we wanted to finish the meal. And the oysters? Absolutely phenomenal. Every single day. They were consistently fresh, delicious, and one of the main reasons we kept coming back. While the service has plenty of room for improvement, the kitchen is doing something truly special. The quality of the seafood alone was enough to make us return day after day, and that's about the highest compliment I can give a restaurant.
