I'm a repeat customer that try's to tip well. Mikey's the only barber I let at my hair because it's extremely thick and unruly...only dude I know who's ever tamed it. I recently moved a good distance away and to drive there to check if he's there is a little inconvenient you try to call 2-3 times back to back every 3-4 hours, leave messages with never an answer. First time going to Mikey's to get a hair cut bit pricey but understandable. The service was cool was greeted by each barber that was nice considering most barbershops do not do that. I sat down, waiting to be called nothing much one of the barbers was ready for me his name was Vinny I didn't get the spelling but that's the name. He proceeded to cut my hair and really understood what I was asking for, Vinny talked to me the whole time and I didn't feel nervous or confused. After coming here for 3 years I am extremely disappointed with the change in service from Mikey the owner. This review goes specifically and is in regards to the owner, Mikey. After writing my name down as usual, I waited over 2 hours for Mikey to tell me in a very serious tone and no emotion "I can go to another shop if I would like." He said this to me because when I was in his chair I began to show him a video of the haircut he had given me over a year ago. I mentioned that with the previous haircut I got, he had done a very bad job and I had to return. I tipped him for that haircut before seeing how bad it was because I trusted him as if he was family. His tone changed immediately and you could tell he was not happy about what I had just said about the previous haircut. That's when he told me I could go elsewhere in front of other customers. In other words, he telling me to get off of his chair. As I walked out, Samuel noticed what had happened and offered to cut my hair if I needed. I can't express how thankful I am for people like Sam. He apologized for something and someone that wasn't in control. He asked how I wanted the haircut and exceeded my expectations. He took me in with open arms and left me with a perfectly blended fade. A very humble, hard working, genuine individual. I'm very emotional as a I type this, I considered Mikey a good friend. And he treated me as if I was nothing. I feel extremely discriminated. After observing closely I quickly realized this is a habit of Mikey's to mistreat and push away a client when he no longer feels that it is in his benefit. Been coming to this barbershop since I moved back to Phoenix last September. Mikey and his crew are professional, quick, and make sure you walk out of the barbershop looking fresh. They finally reopened yesterday after having been closed because of the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. To ensure the safety of the barbers and customers, they are requiring patrons to sign in and then wait in their cars until they are called when it is their turn for a cut. They are also requiring patrons to wear a face mask and the barbers are wearing gloves, face masks, and disinfecting their equipment/work area after each and every customer. Finding a new barber in a new city is always a hassle but I'm glad I found Mikey's Barbershop. read more

I can't even begin to give this shop 1 star. Let me start by telling you that I'm and older White guy who went to Mikey's on the recommendation of a friend. I went to the shop as a new customer after letting my hair grow so I could work into a new style. I noticed that the barbers in the first 2 chairs were polite and welcoming. I thought great, these barbers are professional, with good customer service attitiudes. I signed in and waited for my turn. As it turned out my turn was with the third chair barber, "I". I sat down in his chair after introducing my self and politely asking his name. I thought this guy knows his stuff because I had just watched him spend 45 minutes trimming and meticulously snipping the hair of a young Latin fellow before me. I requested that "I" do a Fade for me and to please scissor cut the remainder of my hair. "I" asked me what number I wanted on the sides. I tought that was an unusual question as I asked him to do a Fade. But I said: Start with a number 2 . You can always go shorter. Those were the last words we had. The next thing the sides of my head are done. "I" takes a couple of snips at the hair on the top of my head. Then applies a thick coating of hair gel. And, I'm done in all of 15 minutes. I thought: Where is all that meticulous attention like your last customer received? I got out of the chair. Stood up and looked at Mikey, the owner. He looked straight at me and said nothing. My guess was he approved of his barbers work. I told him I liked his choice of music. I paid my bill, giving "I"a $10 tip, and left. When I got home I showered and washed out the gel in my hair and let it dry on it's own. The result of "I's" cut was an uneven haircut without any style, long on the top and no evidence of a fade. So. My review is: If your an old White guy looking for a good hair cut Mikey's is not the place to go. read more

You won't find a better barbershop than this. Extremely friendly and beyond professional. Because I am a ridiculously picky person, I wanted to get my haircut touched up. Came the next day and rather than making a big deal about it, Mikey used it as a teachable moment and walked the kid through it. Says a lot about who Mikey is as a person and a professional. The barber that originally cut my mop felt terrible and I assured him it was the type of hair I have and the style cut I asked for. There were zero hard feelings whatsoever. I have never received a worse haircut in my entire life. I showed the barber a picture of the simple haircut I wanted and explained it to him thoroughly. Throughout the haircut I noticed he seemed to be rushing but I didn't say anything because he is a barber and I made the mistake of trusting that he knew what he was doing. When I received the mirror after it was all done I was in complete shock, he gave me a buzzcut fit for boot camp when I had only asked for a little off the top and a fade. He spent the majority of time on the fade so I assumed at least that should be good but it's absolutely TRASH unevenly faded and one side is a mid fade and the other is the highest fade possible. The only reason I paid for the cut was because I was so in shock that I couldn't find words, he offered no apology or discount and charged me 26$ but the WORST part of all is during the entire event he was training a new barber, now the new barber is going to be just as trash as his teacher.
