I purchased this Louis Poulsen PH 5 pendant a while back but my husband never got to install it. So I figured to find a professional to help out on this one. And I agreed to proceed with it and he removed the existing ceiling light with the new pendant light. When the florescent light in my bathroom started flickering wildly, I was hoping I could replace it myself with a plug-and-play light tube. Unfortunately I discovered I couldn't remove it, so I put out a request for an electrician on Yelp. I received four responses, but Mikhail was the only one who was willing to talk to me over the phone. We set up an appointment the following morning, and he was punctual. Mikhail assessed I have a ballast which required dismantling the fixture and inserting a ballast bypass tube. He did the entire job in about 25 minutes because he bought the necessary 48-inch tube beforehand. He even helped clean my dusty ceiling ventilator. Total cost was $200. I had an electrical issue where half of the outlets in the kitchen abruptly stopped working. The outlets included the one for the gas stove and for the overhead fan, making this a HIGH PRIORITY ISSUE for the residents of the house. During my attempts to "problem solve" the issue, I found that none of the circuit breakers were tripped. I reset them all anyway. I reset the one GFCI outlet I found in the kitchen. My attempts were to no avail. I promptly solicited electricians via Yelp. Mikhail responded quickly on Sunday evening. Mikhail met me as scheduled on Monday morning. He examined the breaker panel and recommended an overdue upgrade. FYI, he does not do this type of work but recommended I go through Yelp to find a good contractor who does. He also provided me a ballpark estimate of what it should cost which is helpful so I have a baseline of what it should cost. In the end, it was a fairly quick and easy resolution to the kitchen issue. A GFCI outlet in the kitchen which I did not see had tripped. I reset one GFCI outlet earlier, but there was a second one that was tucked behind a countertop appliance. Of course that was the one that tripped. All of the outlets that stopped working were daisy chained to this GFCI outlet. Mikhail replaced the outlet for me to mitigate future issues. Mikhail's cost was very reasonable and he was very informative. I also appreciate his candor about necessary electrical upgrades I need to consider for the house, especially since he recommended work that he does not normally do so his recommendations were not intended to boost his own revenue. My garage tube lights have been buzzing and intermittently turning off for awhile now, I thought the ballast was failing, and then last night it started smoking and smelt like burnt plastic! I turned it off, took out the bulbs, and researched/set up an appointment for the next day with Mikhail. Rather than replace the burnt out ballast, which is old technology for fluorescent lights, we had the ballast removed and converted it to hardwired led lights. Separately from that issue he also replaced an old outdoor light fixture that wouldn't turn on from the indoor light switch anymore. Mikhail is amazing! We lost power to part of our house yesterday, with none of our circuit breakers tripped including the main. So something was obviously going wrong beyond what we could see...and we were concerned of course about any potential fire hazards that we might be unaware of. We called Mikhail around 8:30 am today, and he offered to come take a look at no cost at 10 am same-day. In a few minutes he identified the issue (corroded-looking busbar that created a bad contact with the main breaker...leading to arcing and the main breaker melting). Because our home was built in the 1970s, the busbar in question is no longer manufactured, and replacing it would have basically required either: 1) someone who could extract the corroded busbar, work the metal to *hopefully* create more use-able length to maintain sufficient breaker contact, then reinstall for immediate power until we could work out option 2... 2) replacing the entire electrical panel..which Mikhail said could take up to 1.5 months due to permitting, our HOA, etc. Either way...we were prepared to not have full electricity and live without a stove and/or dryer until someone could help us find a safe solution. Mikhail clearly laid out the scenarios for us, both of which were suggested with caution and our safety (and home safety) in mind. The quickest option back to electricity was #1 - but he still mentioned that it might not work, and provided options if that were the case. After 1 hour, he managed to not only work our busbar so that it was useable again--but installed a safer main breaker (70 amps vs. 100) that was better suited for our 1970s electrical system. He explained the reasoning behind everything, and made sure we were okay with his solutions before moving further. We still plan to have our main panel replaced asap, but for now have power again (safely!!) without major concerns for breaker melt-downs or fire hazards. Mikhail is honest, responsive, quick, thoughtful and experienced, and encouraged us to research price quotes from other electricians for our eventual full panel replacement. I definitely feel like we can trust him with our electrical needs and highly recommend him! read more
