Great from start to finish! I initially called them because I was looking for a Mitsubishi installer; I wanted to go with a heat pump brand with an impressive track record. But after the estimator came by I was persuaded to go with Quilt - a new heat pump brand focused on an easier customer experience and less awful aesthetics than typical heat pumps. Quilt includes handsome indoor units and a non-ugly smart thermostat that doesn't suffer the horrendous online ratings of competitors. Had two bumps with them, one of which I paid to fix and one of which they paid to fix. Both related to where and how the outdoor was installed. I initially proposed they install the unit near the ground which would be a less costly installation than the roof. But when the senior tech came to confirm the location, he insisted that the ground was too close to our gas water heater - so they upgraded it to a roof installation at no cost to me. The second bump was that they are required to install an outdoor outlet near the outdoor unit, and they insisted that to meet code, they had to install it pretty darn high above the roof, which frankly looked awkward and ugly - on a historic home. I was there during the inspection and asked the city inspector point blank if it needed to be that high above the roof, and he said that for roofs we could lower it by over half - but it passed inspection as-was. I could have fought them to redo it but just paid another 3% or so out of pocket and made it look less ugly. Overall, I feel I received a fair deal and would work with them again. read more

Fuse just finished up a fairly complex job which included a dual-zone HVAC system for my (2) story 2400 sqft. house. Also had them install a new H20 heater and water regulator which provides near instant hot water on demand. All controlled through my Google Home App - using Nest Thermostats. It's slick and seamless .. No doubt it was a big job (and not inexpensive) but the crew I worked with (Victor-Sales, Tim & Alex as installers) was top notch and communicated well throughout the entire process. I did not proceed with this company so I can only judge their sales process. They request a $75 assessment fee to come out and provide an estimate; the fee can be used towards the work. This structure typically leads to inflated prices as the buyer has a sunk cost of $75. In my case, I provided ample information for an estimate without a visit and the estimate was $1000-1400 to install an outlet 60" adjacent to an existing outlet on the same wall. This is a ~$300 project on the high end. I solicited multiple bids for this reason and suggest others do the same before proceeding with a company that seems keen to charge an egregiously high rate for a simple project. Edit to add: I went with another licensed and bonded electrician that charged $200 for the project - savings of $800-1200 (~80%) off what Fuse estimated. read more

I've used Fuse a couple times over the past few years. Very quick to respond, knowledgeable, and thorough. Most recently, we installed two baseboard heaters and one thermostat to control them both. Wiring these can be tricky and we didn't do it correctly. From talking to friends and reading the internet, it sounds like a lot of electrical companies a) don't deal with baseboard heaters b) don't want to come out just to look at wiring. In Fuse's case, they were willing to do both. They came in, quickly confirmed it was a wiring issue, and were able to give us a quote and repair immediately afterwards. read more

Service Techs are the lifeblood of any company that sells and installs major appliances. They're supposed to survey your home and property , listen to your concerns, and make recommendations that suit your needs. All that is tricky, but doable, and FUSE does it very well. There may be occasional language challenges - mostly with details or more technical talk, but the effort and care of thought, planning, and execution are all there. We had a heat pump system installed by FUSE 2 years ago. It's electric, replaced our in-attic Carrier brand gas system installed 12-15 years ago by another company. So, lately, the system doesn't seem like it has been functioning at the same efficiency as when it was originally placed. And we were pretty darn happy with in early on. So Alex comes out, right on the dot of his 6pm - 7pm expected window. He does a preliminary check: fan is delivering air through all registers, and the air temp coming out is 100F at every exit. The system is functioning perfectly, as it was designed. Ok, so why does it take over an hour to raise the thermostat-registered temp from 62-64F ??? Alex explains how this type of system raises temp a little more gradually than traditional blast-it-out gas systems, but is much more power-stingy - and EFFICIENT - at maintaining it. I explain how our previous PG&E bills have ballooned from low-mid $200's to $350-$500. I'm not so sure I'm in love with the power-stingy " maintaining ambient comfort" claim. Alex does a little deeper dive into the why's and wherefore's and discovers: gaps in the venting, a duct curve constructed from plastic bagging material rather than an actual duct, improper angles, no elbow, a slew of problems which are defeating the function of our new furnace. He spent over an hour, ladder to attic, in the attic, taking photos and the two of us discussing register placement, alternate aperature sizes, a bunch of detailed ideas. He is taking all that feedback to the shop and will come up with some recommendations for how to correct all of that. It will cost some $$. But there will be an ROI. Because clearly our bills are jacked up from running the furnace while it's being blocked by bad ductwork from doing its job. The cost for all that due diligence: the standard $75 service charge. I would also note that although I was intimidated by the whole set of rebates available when you change from gas to electric, in the appropriate time, FUSE helped and made sure I received every contractor-based rebate. My mother's dryer was not blowing hot air and this was probably due to a blown fuse / heating element. I reached out for them to come in and have a look and possibly order parts + repair , few hours later my mother called to inform me that they quoted her $600 for "heating element" replacement and they would run out and get parts right away. I told my mother do not allow this repair and I called these guys immediately to ask what parts they are repairing that cost $600 ! That's almost a new dryer. The nice lady on the phone said she would contact the technician and request specific details. She later called back and instead offer $575 for the repair . I told her this is way too much for a dryer heating element repair. The part itself is no more than $20-70max . She said she would call back again after speaking to the technician regarding the parts and repair involved that would justify the $600 quote. I haven't heard back from them, it's been 3 days. Cant believe these guys tried to charge my old lady $600. I called General HVAC instead and they are doing the repairs now for $275 ! read more
