Food is a'ight -- especially for Japanese fast food. We're creatures of habit and usually rotate between chicken or steak bowls, egg rolls, and sushi. I don't care for the yum-yum sauce, but my family treats it like their firstborn grandchild, so it remains untouchable. This time we ordered four rolls and a mix of bowls. I prefer my steak medium (not well-done sadness), but their takeout doesn't do preferences, so expectations were managed. One steak bowl had requested mushrooms on the side... which they technically were, except the plastic cup exploded and redecorated the entire bag. Someone -- not me -- missed out on 'em! Rice was sticky yet somehow a 'lil dry -- a confusing texture journey. Egg rolls were bland, but the duck sauce showed up, and carried the team. Overall? Long-standing Hibachi restaurant in Fayetteville near Cape Fear Hospital. My recent visit, I ordered the Samurai which came with shrimp, choice of chicken, and steak. The chicken was portioned little to nothing and place underneath the major part of my meal. If I didn't search for the chicken, I would have thought my order consisted of only shrimp and steak. My mom ordered shrimp and steak but received steak only because she was misheard and didn't ask for correction. Restaurant has original murals and probably seating too. Food: chicken was scorched. Service: the manager was not willing to come speak with us about the issue. The table we were seated at was sticky, and there were small gnats swarming around us the entire time. It got so bad we literally had to stop eating and leave. Keep in mind, even after all of that, the manager still refused to come talk to us personally. We will never go back. One positive: the sweet young girl who had to relay the message from the cowardly manager was very kind. She handled herself much better than management did. read more

This used to be great. Not so much anymore. Last two visits, steak was overdone when asked for medium rare. No pink at all. The chicken was hard around the edges which makes me think it's old and reused. The price went up a lot and food went down a lot. Won't go back. read more

Ordered the highest priced plate they sell filet, chicken and shrimp with a extra side of rice. She gave me two 2oz cups for all that. I asked for two more for the extra rice and it was such a big deal. Ended up paying $1.20 for two more. It's okay to charge for extra sauce if that's how you want to run your business but it's the attitude behind. Don't act as if I asked to give it to me with no purchase. I always say I'm not coming back here and end up back because the convenience of the drive through window. On the other hand the lady running this place is hateful with no personality. read more

I've been going to this place for years and I've never had any complaints! Fast and easy takeout, plenty of options, and the food is good. I've tried a lot of things but I especially like the hibachi trays that come with the veggies. They load your plate with onions or zucchini, unless you tell them light/no onions/zucchini. Their dumplings are really good and crispy and the country boy sushi roll is good as well. Nice spot for lunch or take out dinner for sure! read more

I give 3 of 5 stars because you'll get good food with terrible service. First: Despite the poor reviews, I found the food to be pretty decent. However, the rest of the experience was dreadful. Ordering over the phone is brutal. Between the multiple hang ups, background noise, unintelligible speech, and overall lack of care by the employee, I barely got my order placed. Getting the food was an experience, as well. When you open the door, be prepared for the smell--think gnarly fish market. Receiving the food was eventful, too. The cashier barely even acknowledged me. Forget being appreciated or thanked for your business! I honestly felt like my order was a pain in the ass to these people. First time in today and it was a great experience! Wasn't super busy but a decent flow of customers. Everyone received fast and friendly service with very short wait times between placing your order and getting your food! Food was hot fresh and flavorful Huge Shoutout to Employee Caitlyn, she provided an elderly customer from the neighboring hotel who had limited mobility impeccable service. She was very attentive to the woman's special requests when placing her order, offered to get her sauces for her and even went as far as to open the door and see the customer out when all was done! I ordered from here because I am familiar with hibachi 88 in Durham, NC & they offer the same food as them. However.. after eating nearly half of my entree, I noticed this black bug mixed in with my rice and am disgusted. I will never eat from this place again. Accidents do happen, but better attention needs to be paid to the food when it is being cooked and packaged. read more

Sushi had an inch thick of rice on the outside, white sauce was way too watery, I ordered a side of onions and zucchini and they gave me a whole onion but 2 slices of zucchini, husband ordered steak and shrimp and you get 3 shrimp with it. Do not recommend. read more

On Wednesday evening 12/11/2019. My husband and I went to Mikoto Express on Walter Reed Rd (Fayetteville NC) to eat dinner. Before we left the restaurant, I went back to the counter to get a lid for my steak bowl. I observed a female leave the kitchen/prep area with a plastic container full of batter. The female had her bare hands (no gloves) in the batter moving around what appeared to be some type of protein. She proceeded to the fryer and pulled the protein from the batter and placed it in the fryer (still without gloves on). When I questioned why the female was handling food without gloves, I was informed both by the clerk at the counter and later by the female (who identified herself as the manager) that they do not wear gloves because they wash their hands before preparing the food. The female continued that the health inspectors were aware and had watched them do this without gloves on many occasions. I also noticed that on their prep bar behind the grill - raw protein was placed next to the broccoli. Both the food handling without gloves and the placement of raw meat next vegetables is unsafe practices that could lead to some real serious health consequences. read more

The staff was friendly but for some reason, the hibachi vegetables had an awful aftertaste. I observed the vegetables being removed from the refrigerator, but have no idea what oil or seasonings they use. After taking one bite, we knew we wanted a refund because we were concerned whether or not the food was contaminated, etc. I was surprised to learn that it is the policy of the owners NOT to offer refunds just because the customer doesn't like the taste of the food. For a while, my wife and I only ordered the hibachi bowls and an occasional roll. We were fine with the quality and taste, but it didn't exactly move us. This was squarely due to the weird vibe of the place. A lot of dead eyes and disheveled tables. Like most places, they do that asinine "tell me your order while you're clearly not ready or standing in front of me" yelling at you nonsense that I particularly cannot stand, but whatever. That apparently counts as customer service now, just like yelling "WELCOME!" to the back of your head when you enter any store. (Store managers, PLEASE STOP FORCING YOUR EMPLOYEES TO DO THIS. One "genius" decided that this would make them stand out and now it's spread like a half thought virus.) Because I was trying to lift the spirits of my wife via some good food, I wasn't too happy when they messed up my order. I was given a teriyaki bowl when I ordered a hibachi one, and I really wanted the damn veggies. Since my wife got the shrimp tempura and it strangely came with more veggies than shrimp, I just ate some of hers (the ones that had the sauce spilled on it). She also got a California roll that didn't inspire confidence just looking at it. The eggrolls looked small as hell. Overall, although very inexpensive, we didn't think it was worth the trip and had scratch them off the list of places to go again, All that changed once we started eating. This was one of the best damn meals we've ever ate. That bowl that I was fussing about? Well that shut me the hell up rather quickly. The tempura? Heavenly crisps of oil laden goodness that was seriously comforting. The California roll? Out-friggin-standing. The eggrolls? Perfect balance of crisp and freshness. They have culinary wizards working in the back, weird customer service and ambiance be damned. Not only had the meal lifted our spirits, but we both couldn't wait to have an opportunity to go back, right after having said "neva again" just moments earlier. This location is in extreme violation of safety codes by not all employees not wearing a mask. Also, one of the employees was coughing while handling food to customers and the customer service is exceptionally bad. I called in an order and after waiting 45 minutes plus people after me got their food. What is the point of calling in an order? No apology except they are busy and lost one customer's order ticket. Mikoto's has the best Japanese in Fayetteville! Not miyabi not shogun miyabi fillet chicken and shrimp also called a samurai although I say fillet for the different cut of meat! Kinda expensive especially the egg rolls but they are the best hands down just kinda pricey! read more

Girls working on Sunday have the worst attitude and the eye rolling is Ridiculous if they don't want to work there go home let someone else work there that wants to work. I got the chicken plate, which was ok. The chicken was good, but the zucchini and onion that came with it was not. It came with "fried rice", which was just rice fried with soy sauce. It totally took me by surprise. I guess it is technically "fried", so it's "fried rice", even though it does not have the eggs, and other usual veggie fixing in it. It's a fast mediocer place. Long time customer, even worked there over a decade ago. Went there today and the steak taste like it was rotten. I couldn't bare the taste without gagging and approached them to make it right, but instead the manager told me that there was nothing he could do. I just feel like even though this may have been a bad steak, they let this one incident ruin the business I give to them. I am a Real Estate Agent and have introduced this location to others etc. But now, I will refer no one. The meal I had today was disgusting and the manager Alex could care less and made it clear. I was underserved and am very disappointed. I have never had an issue with the quality or taste of my food and informed I couldn't get a remake or refund or something. I hadn't been in a long time because the last time I ordered the hibachi filet and shrimp to-go I got three shrimp and very little beef, it was almost an entire plate of rice. I decided to give it a another try because my coworker said she went last night and it was very good, with plenty of meat. I'm happy to report that this time I can say the same. I asked for medium rare filet and that's what I got, it was nice and tender..the shrimp were large, cleaned and flavorful. The staff was pleasant and professional, which is a huge change from past visits. Pleased to say I will be returning soon. read more

Let me begin by saying not only have I eaten here 3-5 times, I also briefly worked here. I'm not only reviewing this restaurant as a customer but I'm also warning others who may want to eat here. During the training process, they taught me to make salad but here's the kicker: the salad (the lettuce itself, not the cucumbers/tomatoes) is stored in a plastic pan filled with water (I guess to keep it crisp?). Not only have they told us to use old, brown lettuce because "it's expensive" and the owners are cheap, we are taught to reach in with our BARE hands to scoop out the lettuce and shake away excess water. They do not provide tongs nor gloves and when I asked for tongs, the owner scolded me. Another thing to be weary of... As we assembled plates on the steamtable, sometimes a stray piece of steak,shrimp etc. would fall onto the steamtable but no worries; we have a pair of tongs to pick up the food and then place it back onto your plate! (We have no tongs for salad but some for stray food, go figure.) Don't worry, they tongs are washed at closing time each night, but not before touching MANY bits of food from 11-9. So if you have seafood allergies, DON'T eat here because if a piece chicken/steak falls off, they'll put it on your plate, but not before it had been touched by many pieces of shrimp throughout the day. I can't stress this enough: AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES!The owner also likes to eat rice off of the steamtable with the rice spoon and he usually double-dips. He also brushes his teeth in the back of the kitchen after he eats lunch. The white sauce is stored in giant garbage cans (and it's main ingredient is mayo.)
