Cappuccino

I was excited to try this pastry place since I saw it in a couple "Bay Area Best" lists. And even though the appearance was very promising I found the pastries pretty mediocre compared to the same price ones in SF. The passion fruit tart appeared to be on a simple side, being just sweet and lacking juiciness/creaminess/crunchiness which you expect from a tart. The almond croissant was totally lacking the lamination; the texture was thick and doughy instead of airy and flaky. It was disappointingly bland (couldn't taste the almond filling at all) and far too heavy + overly sweet. The last thing that was really disappointing- the waiting time for the avocado sandwich. It was like 20+ minutes while the place wasn't even packed. I loved the interior, cute tea cups and workers being welcoming, but its definitely not enough to come here again

The sweetest way to celebrate the holidays. Seasonal tarts and pastries by mademoiselle colette are everything we love about fall, buttery with the right amount of indulgent. Seasonal treats you need to try - Pecan Tart - My fav! Maple syrup whipped ganache, vanilla caramel & toasted pecans for the perfect nuttiness Apple Tart - layers of croissant dough, Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, vanilla & almond cream Pumpkin Tart - It's the perfect fall treat. I love the spiced pumpkin cream contrasted with the caramel in a decadent bite Pastries like Croissant & Kouign Amann - golden and flaky, made with 100% Isigny Butter imported from France. You can taste the quality and crisp, seriously any pastry is amazing. These treats taste like a little moment of joy, which are ideal for gifting, gatherings or your morning coffee ritual.

Can't emphasize how much I love this spot--the food, the outdoor seating truly embracing the Cali sunshine and the downtown Menlo Park tranquil vibe! The pasties, desserts and light meals are all my go-tos!

Have been wanting to visit this place for a while! Came on a weekend after lunch time and there was a small line out the door waiting to order. Got a kouign amann ($5.80) and a passion fruit exotic tart ($10.50) for to-go. They had many desserts and made me want to try all of them. You can't go wrong with their kouign amann and also I just really like it in general for the caramelized, crispy exterior and the buttery exterior. The passion fruit dessert was light, but has a sharp tangy flavor to it, so I could only eat like 1/4 at a time even though it wasn't big at all (maybe would've paired well with a black/green tea or smth). Would return to try their other food and their drinks!

My 3 pals and I arrived at 2:30 on a Sunday and their kitchen just closed, no hot chocolate and only coffee or the bakery items in sight. I asked if they had lemon and honey for a hot tea and they said yes, but I only got sliced limes. The kouign amann, croissant and chocolate croissant were good. Iced tea wasn't strong enough and flat white was ok. I normally like coming by here when I'm in the area but it's good to know the kitchen closes early. I always like the option of hot food or heated pastries.

Citrus roll. They have beautiful viennoiserie here!

We are so fortunate to have Mme Colette here in Menlo Park. The pastries here are absolutely delightful, whether it's their lovely morning Viennoiserie or their decadent desserts, they're all winners. I'm classically trained in pastry techniques and I appreciate their attention to detail and balanced flavors and textures. Just superb. The shop itself is also light and attractive, and their outdoor dining options are super helpful. First rate experience here. Highly recommended!

Hazelnut Cake - sooo good Apple turnovers in the back - didn't care for it

Never had a croissant this bad from a French bakery. This is what I would expect if I buy a big pack from Safeway or Costco... I took a bite & throw it away. It was buttery but no crunch, not flakey and the flavor wasn't even good. Service was good, the person getting our order was nice.

Mademoiselle Colette in Menlo Park is my go-to café and I live in Palo Alto! I found it a few months ago thanks to my best friend, and now we're here 2-3 times a week. The pastries are always fresh and delicious (my favorite pastries are their apple turnover and their seasonal pumpkin travel cake) and , the coffee is top tier, but the staff truly make this place special. Ricardo's customer service is amazing. He's warm, kind, and always makes you feel welcomed. Victoria made the cutest initials on our coffees recently, and it genuinely made our day. Enrique and the rest of the team are also just as awesome. If you haven't been yet, this is your sign to treat yourself (or someone you love) to the best coffee and pastries in town.

French toast. Not bad!!
Brian K.

Cute spot in downtown Menlo Park with a nice selection of French pastries and traditional breakfast items. Order at the counter, take a number and try to find a seat. They'll (eventually) deliver to the table. For us, it took about 25 min. Tried a croque madame and french toast. Dishes were very well executed and optically pleasing. I thought the French toast portion was on the smaller side, so if you have a big appetite, you may not get filled up. But the dish was flavorful with fresh fruit, whipped cream and maple syrup (on the side). The madame definitely hit the spot and is reminiscent of ones I've tried in Paris. And, the side salad had a nice dressing that counter balanced the dish.

Came here specifically for their carrot bread which did not disappoint. Can I take home an entire loaf ;)

I used to love Mademoiselle Colette and have been coming here for years. However, it's unfortunately gone downhill over the past few years. The almond croissants and goat cheese kouign amann used to be my favorite, but these days are a somewhat soggy reincarnation of their past selves. I find that they tend to return to their previous quality on busy days like Mother's Day (maybe the higher turnover helps or they're bringing in different people) but on a normal day it's not really worth going to anymore.

Croque Madame
Allen W.

I like that their croque madam comes with a salad on the side - balances out the flavor well! Line can get a bit long - seems quite popular. All of their pastries look quite nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but not all of the outdoor seats are shaded. Plenty of parking behind the restaurant.

Cortado in foreground, cappuccino in the back.

Came here after my husband's haircut on a Saturday afternoon, and I think he had a much better experience than me. For reference, I'm a vegetarian with an egg allergy, so there was functionally only one item on the menu I could eat. Given my restrictions, my only option was the yogurt and granola bowl (so of course I was going to add berries), but I get the feeling that you could probably ask them to modify things if you're feeling up to it. They brought me the yogurt tub, so I was able to confirm it was gelatin-free, as well (the friendly lady at the counter didn't understand what gelatin was at first, so may be easiest to ask for ingredient lists if your restrictions are not super common or might not be recognizable to an ESL worker, though she seemed otherwise completely fluent). The granola was a nice nutty blend (with hazelnuts!) and had a touch of honey--not too sweet, but enough to sweeten things. The berry addition feels like a lot for the berries you get, but it goes very well with the yogurt and granola. Husband had Eggs Benedict and loved the egg and prosciutto, but was sad they came on a potato thing instead of an English muffin, as he's not a fan of potato (yeah, I don't get him either). He also got a cappuccino, and I got a cortado, and they were decent. I also got a loaf of olive bread to go, because I do love a rustic loaf and olive bread, and I must say that loaf has been fantastic! The location itself is very cute and chic, and the workers were very prompt and friendly, although it does get quite loud indoors (we haven't tried the outdoor seating yet). It's a long the main street, which is conveniently just a door or two away from our usual hair salon, and they appear to serve breakfast items all day (a huge plus for my breakfast-food-loving husband). Even though there's only one item I can for sure eat here, it's a reasonably nice option (not amazing, but good), and my husband likes the food. If you don't have dietary restrictions, perhaps you'll like it, too! And if nothing else, I will be back for more of the olive bread!

Perhaps a bit on the fancier side, but it's a pleasant place to go for some coffee and a dessert. All of the desserts are beautiful and imaginative spins on classics with a middle eastern twist. Baklava Cheesecake: Such a pretty little packet. This is a bit contradictory, but the cream cheese filling is a little too sweet and dense and the outside should be a little more sweet, perhaps with syrup like on a traditional baklava. I missed that stickiness and moisture on the flaky exterior. But overall, it was fun to eat. Sweet Cheese Rolls: These were pretty good and quite creamy inside. Halawet el jibn is traditionally served with pistachio and rose syrup. These are hard to come by in the Bay and kind of expensive here, but tasty.

Pricey but the items were high quality. Store is a small footprint with limited utilities (no WiFi, bathroom was temporarily out of order). Parking is very difficult- it's on el Camino so the cars are unforgiving if you're trying to parallel park, and the road parallel by a block is not much better. This location is in the strip of Downtown Palo Alto and has limited parking (similar to the rest of the stores there, there is a lot of parking, and you will need to get lucky). My mom does like the Marvel Cake in their first location, so we swung by here to try this one out! Location-wise, this is a smaller shop than the original one in West San Jose with limited seating inside. I would say it's not work from home friendly however, I did see a college student next to me on her laptop so maybe I am incorrect here! The interior is nice and light, matching the elegance of the desserts. We ordered three items on the menu: the pillow cake, the bisou, and the blueberry lavender roll. Here are some thoughts: * Pillowcase cake: It may seem like this would be a fluffy cake due to the nature of its shape, but it is a gelatinous Jell-O cake with fruit jam. It was not bad, and tasted refreshing and light. I didn't know if I liked it at first, but ultimately I did come back for seconds and thirds, so this is approved. * Blueberry lavender roll cake: This was not at all what we were expecting. I did not taste any lavender, nor did it have a strong blueberry flavor. I think what threw our party off was the layer of gelatin that surrounded the cake. Texturally, we were not a big fan. * Bisou: This one was our favorite one. I appreciated the nutty crust in the bottom layer of the cake, while the filling was soft and bouncy. It is very sweet, however, but overall, I really enjoyed this one and feel like it would go great with a cup of coffee. What made the experience here a 3 instead of a 4 or 5 was the service we got. We weren't greeted when we came in, which, to be fair, is totally fine, maybe they were busy. However, the person helping us stared at us the whole time and did not really communicate well with us. When I tried to order the cakes for my family, they looked bothered that we were there, and I was not sure if they understood what pastries I was ordering because they did not repeat it back to us at all or confirm anything. When I did place the order, they slowly grabbed the plates and looked visually confused, which again, if they wanted to, I could have repeated it back to them. After they gathered everything, they put it in front of us and rang me up. The whole time, they did not say a word to me at all. Did not reconfirm anything, did not acknowledge we were there, did not say thank you. It was a bit strange, and I had to check with my family if it was me or if that was a really weird experience (it wasn't me).
