I'm ashamed to say I'm just now taking my family to try out Milano II. I was a fan when they had the first location in the late 90s. Frequently went for lunch break. So happy that we had a chance to go tonight. We are all smiles and full tummies when we left. Service = Amazing. I love that it is an intimate setting so the owner comes to every table. Our server was Caroline. She was attentive and able to give knowledgeable advice about menu items. Food = Outstanding as always. We loved the appetizers so much we didn't get pictures before devouring them. We had calamari and Smoked salmon Bruschetta. Entree's were lasagna, grilled chicken with roasted red potatoes and a side of angel hair; and Milano's favorite. Dessert was a brownie bite cheesecake. It is beautiful and cozy inside and seating is spacious with sturdy chairs. Can't go wrong with this wonderful restaurant. read more

The service was very good and attentive staff. Ambiance was nice with fireplace setting that was very comforting. Most of us wore Jeans but some dressed nice. Parking outside in street in front. The food was okay but no garlic, oregano or any Italian spice. The smoked salmon bruschetta smelled strong but didn't taste strong and was actually good. Lasagna and Milano special really needed some garlic and oregano. Grilled shrimp was good and potatoes but side of spaghetti was bland. The bread and oil dip was good and wine selection was great. Prices were reasonable. This place would be good as a one visit 'date night' without the garlic breath. Not sure I'd go out of my way to go again. At least till they add the spice. read more

Stopped by here for dinner before the Haunted Murfreesboro walking tour. My friends and I were very happy with the food and service at Milano. The complimentary bread was thick and soft - perfect for soaking up marinara. The pesto wasn't over seasoned. The lasagna wasn't overdone with cheese. The chicken piccata was well balanced, not overwhelmed with lemon. We finished the evening off with cannoli which is a must order. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. She was nice enough to share what paranormal activity she and her fellow employees have experienced at the restaurant which was a former funeral parlor. We've had pretty much everything on their menu at this point and YUM!! We love how it's arranged in such a lovely, preserved building which adds to its romance. The staff has always been friendly, prompt, and well trained. The piéce de résistance is that fried mozzarella appetizer (Mozzarella in carrozza) with the lemony olive sauce you could bathe in it's so damn good! Go for anything, but just GO! Went here for my wife's birthday dinner with family tonight for the first time. The old house adds and takes away from the atmosphere. The front of the house is nice and carries a elegant touch, but back of the house where we sat seemed to lack atmosphere and warmth. The food is missing something that just leaves your taste buds unsatisfied. I'm not saying the food was bad, just missing something and bland. Had an awesome meal at Milano II & Jack's place tonight...simply fantastic. Sat at the bar and Sam (who I later found out is the owners son) who got me set up with a beer and some hot baked bread. I started off with some Bruschetta (very good) and ordered the blackened grouper topped with shrimp and a creamy sundried pesto sauce with some pasta and roasted red potatoes. This dish is incredible...some of the best fish I've had in a very long time. The seasoning used to blacken the grouper wasn't overpowering and really complimented the creamy pesto sauce. Sam was a great host and I really enjoyed our conversation along with meeting his Dad and the owner Jack. Been a long time since I visited this spot but I will be back to enjoy some other dishes here. read more

This restaurant has been a favorite, but when my party of 4 went this past week we were very disappointed. Everything we ordered was not the same as when we ate it before. The salad and creamy Italian salad dressing were not the same and were nothing g special rather than delicious. The chicken piccata was not at all the same and was not really piccata. The Milano's Favorite was bland and not at all like the others we have eaten. The spaghetti with a whisper of tomato sauce was like out of a can. Perhaps the quality of ingredients has slipped or the time put into preparation? We were very disappointed and will sadly not be back. read more

Their Pomodoro sauce was so good and fresh on hubby's Chicken Parmesan. I had the Chicken Marsala which was different from any other Marsala I have had as it was cream based. Great place in Murfreesboro for Italian food! The service was great, and the atmosphere was quite cozy. I'm a big fan of the ranch dressing they put on their house salad (which, btw, comes with all pasta entrees), as it's not your usual ranch from a plastic container; it has way more dimensions in terms of flavor. Similar to most Italian restaurants, they bring out bread with olive oil and seasonings for snacking on before your entrees, and the bread is just the right amount of crispy and chewy. I had the Milano's favorite, which was good, but it was a little pricey. It was a pretty large portion size though, which made up for the price. Underrated Italian restaurant! read more

Tonight we were visiting my best friends' son in Murphreesboro and we going to take him to dinner. We narrowed the choices down to three and I decided Milano II. Upon arriving to the restaurant it is in a lovely building that was previously a two story home. You enter and have a small foyer before approaching the hostess stand. Thee was four in our party and had expectations of there being a wait. The hostess went and looked around and returned and immediately sat us. We had a very nice server and unfortunately I did not get name. One member in the party got the tenderloins, another the lasagne, another the Cajun pasta and I got the Chicken Milano as I was looking for a possible low carb or as low as possible knowing I'm in an Italian restaurant. We all also ordered salads as well. Mine had the house which is a delicious creamy Italian. Our dinners came out at an appropriate time to allow us to eat our salads. Everyone very much enjoyed their meals. Mine had a great taste and the side of broccoli was nicely done as well. Overall this visit to Milanos was a great choice and now on my permanent collection on Yelp for Nashville or Murphreesboro. Give it a try for a great dinner. read more

We went to Milano II restaurant tonight with a party of seven. Recent posts said the food had slipped. But our experience was fabulous food--friends from Sonoma declared it the best salmon ever. Chicken Marsala didn't disappoint either. And fresh cannolis are hard to come by in the Boro. Service was delightfully attentive, and best of all was the collection box at the door for matching aid to Ukraine. When the original Milano's was over near the mall, I made sure to go at least once a week. When it closed, I was so disappointed. I was very excited to see them reopen as Milano's II on College. They still got it with my chicken marsala. I love it, and I've never had marsala that I liked that much. I've always had good service, very personal and considerate. I do recommend. read more

Very good food; but chicken rubber/tough. Service by a teen with dirty shirt and attitude of indifference. Too bad because the ambiance is quite welcoming. Can't for the life of me understand all of the good ratings. First person who came to take our drink orders had zero knowledge of any of the wines and didn't even know if they served beer. (They have two Pinot's by the glass - both terrible.) Ordered one salad which never came (but the bill included charges for three salads). Entrees ranged from mediocre (eggplant) to awful (angel hair with chicken). Chicken was the most rubbery, blandest chicken I may have ever eaten. Do yourself a favor and go to Carrabba's instead. Yes it's chain, but it's consistent and always solid. I will not be going back to Milano's after this my first visit. read more

The food is delicious, maybe the best Italian in Murfreesboro. The owner, I believe, is from Italy. However, the service has gone downhill since they moved to the square. Once, I went with a group of 8, so I expected it to take a few minutes. After waiting for 30 minutes to get our meals, they brought out everyone's meals except mine and my mom's. They had forgotten them. So we waited for another 15 to 20 minutes. More recently, my husband and I went and were told there was a 20 minute wait. We waited in the car for 25 minutes. We went in and asked about our table. The hostess said 20-25 more minutes, and didn't apologize when I said we already waited the estimated time. So, we left. It is sad, because the food is great if it wasn't so hard to get it. read more

Great ambiance! Willing to accommodate large groups. Great cocktails. But. We got our plates with oil but no bread. After asking three times we finally got bread. Most of our table never got waters, we stopped asking. We ordered two of the dishes with stars, the blackened salmon and the lamb chops. Both were fine but not outstanding. We also had a strip steak that was ordered at a medium but came out well done. It was greasy and fatty without much to redeem itself. I also very much dislike when servers ask "soup or salad" but it turns out to be an up charge. Especially when the salad isn't very good but is drowning in dressing. We've been here twice. First was about a month ago. It was hands down a five star meal and experience. Excellent waiter, the chicken Marsala and grouper were extremely memorable, and the atmosphere was perfect. We sat in the front room by the fireplace. The grouper was so good that we talked about it for a week and planned our next return. We decided on coming back for the wife's birthday. A Tuesday evening, we came with our 2 young daughters and we stood at the host booth for about 5-10 minutes. Not super busy but not a ghost town either. I shrugged off the delay because I knew what we were about to eat. Then we were seated in the back corner room closest to the tavern. It was pretty dark but whatever, still looking forward to that grouper. We get the menus, limited kids options, I get that. One wants the chicken tenders of course *eye roll* and the other the fettuccini Alfredo. We chose the grouper and ribeye. The kids meals came out first. Which all parents would appreciate. Thank you! The fettuccine looked good. It was just a plain, simple bowl of pasta. But what was on the other kids plate I would not expect to see at even your favorite fast food chicken place. Her plate had two tenders that were flattened to about 1/4" and fried for twice as long as they should've been and was accompanied by maybe 6 or 7 krinkle cut fries. I know this isn't a kid's restaurant but cmon...that's pretty bad. Also, there is no price for kids meals on the menu. I should've asked but I assumed they were free with adult meals. *not uncommon for a nice restaurant like this one. The grouper was as good as we remembered, thank God. The ribeye was decent. Very thin but the glaze was excellent. The side pasta reminds us of our meals in Italy. So, so, so good. Our waitress was ok. Checked on us a couple times and then delivered the check before offering dessert or anything else. I mentioned the occasion and we joked about singing "happy birthday". Apparently that does not warrant you a complimentary dessert. Fine. We got the brownie cheesecake. It was a bit dry and pretty small but not terrible. All in all, our first experience was absolutely flawless. Our second was a 2-3 stars. Bit of a disappointment, especially for $80 without drinks. I will revisit but would not bring the kids again. They'd be much better off going to chick-fil-a. And for good reason. read more

Milano II is in a historic early 20th century house that has housed various local restaurants in the last 30 years. Of the downtown Italian restaurants Milano is the best especially the laid back comfortable vibe of Jack's Place, the bar adjacent to the restaurant. There's nothing wrong about the main dining room--except it is sorta worn. But I like the mixed drinks and the feel of Jacks place. The Caesar Salads were not spectacular but solid--not the heavy creak dressing found at too many places. We tried different pastas--angel hair with eggplant and fettuccine with Milano Favorite--somewhat Cajun and tasty. Generous portions--for a fair price. Good menu selection. Great, no. We have been wanting to try Milano II and finally made a reservation for Friday evening on September 16, 2022. Upon entering we were quickly seated. We immediately noticed the charm of this restaurant, very cozy and intimate. Seating areas were divided into the separate rooms of what once someone's residence. The food was good. It was the service that was at issue. After being seated, we sat and waited. And waited. Although the owner kept looking over at us and several of the wait staff walked by us several times, no one ever came by the table with even the basics. No water, no drinks, no bread loaf. After about 10 minutes, the owner approached and said he was sorry but he forgot to tell his staff to wait on us. WHAT? When a server arrived, he repeated the excuse that he wasn't told we needed to be waited on. WHAT? I have never been anywhere that staff had to be told to wait on customers seated at a table with menus in their section. At the time, the restaurant had only been open a half an hour and there were no more than 2 to 4 other tables occupied that we could see. They claim to have fully stocked bar, but as I kept trying to order a name brand rum, I kept being told it wasn't available. He just kept saying "so, you just want a rum and coke?" Others that slowly began to fill the restaurant were seated and many seemed to be regulars as the owner and staff seemed very familiar with them. They were brought bread loafs fairly quickly. We got ours as an afterthought after quite some time. We weren't told about any specials, just "are you ready to order?" When our food arrived, it was delivered and the server left. We had to wave down the owner to bring us some cheese to be sprinkled on our meals. Other customers were asked immediately upon being served. After our meal, the server arrived at our table with our check and only again, as an afterthought, meekly asked if we wanted desert. As we left, my wife commented to me on how it seemed that he, our server, obviously wanted us to leave because of how he came with our check in hand before even deciding if he should offer dessert. So in the end, although the food was good, the service was disappointing. They were not short staffed so that can't be an excuse. By the end of our meal, we honestly felt unwelcomed in what is presented as a homey atmosphere. The treatment and interaction of staff to what seem to be the regulars around us was in big contrast as to how we were serviced. As first time guests, we were made to feel out of place. The food was good enough that we may give Milano II a second chance, but if the service is the same...there won't be third. Good food, service left an aftertaste. read more

Food was very mediocre, and the service was even worse. Having grown up where Italian restaurants are plentiful, this place doesn't even compare. The server had the personality of a dinner plate. We were given one serving of bread when we were seated, and never offered any more with the meal. We were never offered any more drinks, and were never offered dessert. The veal parm was not breaded and very oily, and the sauce seemed very watered down. My wife had the egg plant parm, also not breaded, and sauce watered down. My mother inlaw had the fettuccine Alfredo which she said was just OK. I do not recommend this place to anyone that has actually tasted authentic Italian cuisine. read more

Went with a group for lunch. Food was ok, nothing spectacular. I had the grilled salmon, someone else had the blackened salmon, and another person had the eggplant. The salmon was ok, rice too, but the veggies felt like they came from a frozen veggie bag. I was surprised the veggies weren't fresher. We went here for the 2nd time the day after Valentine's Day. We don't "restaurant" on Valentine's Day. Too nuts. Anyways, this restaurant is a phenomenal option if you like Italian food. The ambiance is perfect. Smooth music playing throughout and the building itself is an old historic, original building. Even smells like a museum until your amazing food comes out. Today's menu was a special menu for the Valentines Day weekend. For appetizer, we went with a salmon bruschetta. Simply amazing! Not sure if it's prepared year round, but it should be. My meal I decided to run with was the blackened grouper covered in a pesto cream sauce topped with shrimp. Flavor was perfect! Highly recommend the grouper (although I'm biased because grouper is my favorite fish). Finished off with a caramel brownie cheesecake. Yup, that did the job! Hit my sweet tooth perfectly! Milano's is up there as one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. read more

This place was incredible! I felt like I was in a movie. We were quickly greeted when we entered and sat at a nice table by the fireplace, which was amazing. The inside is extremely beautiful and romantic, the food came out hot and the server was great!
