Four of us popped in for lunch and had a great meal. Our salads were fresh and crispy and the burger was top notch. The fried green beans were a surprising option but a terrific choice. We tried a blueberry maple smash cocktail- and wow, it was good. Anne, our server, was cheery, information and provided excellent service. It's a great lunch option set in the Weston Village- a step back in time when you walk in to the old fashioned bar and the rustic wood floor, beams and nostalgic photos that remind you of the history of the Vermont Country Store and Weston. While we had a very nice time shopping in the Vermont Country Store itself (spent quite a bit of $$$$), we unfortunately cannot say the same about our experience at Mildred's. It was a real disappointment because we had been saving our creemee experience for this location. The Gen Alpha who was working was brusque and unfamiliar with the concept of customer service. She messed up one of our orders and had to redo the whole thing (such a waste of food). Obviously that in itself soured us, so maybe our review of the ice cream is already biased, but it wasn't that great. The maple/vanilla twist with sprinkles was only OK and definitely not as creamy as we have had in other locations in Vermont. The maple milkshake had a terrible consistency and proportionality--it was way too liquidy with the wrong balance of maple (too much). Green Mountain Bummer! We will likely be back because we loved the store and got so much great stuff. We hope that staff will be friendlier and that more attention will be given producing quality product. read more

For roadside food, this place is outstanding! the pot roast grilled cheese and tomato soup was delicious! There are tables outside and in the fall/winter it's cold. Really wish the Vt Country Store would add sides to their tent it would be a game changer! No inside seating. One of the best maple creemees too! read more

We are on vacation in Vermont so how could we not hit up some ice cream joint. We went when it was a downpour but it definitely didn't take away from the service and tasty ice cream. They had a small barn with tables in it so you could sit inside and get out of the rain. They also have outside sliding benches you could enjoy during any time that it's not raining. They had more than ice cream; chili, chowder, hot dogs, etc and the prices are very reasonable and I would not hesitate to recommend this gem to anyone. However, I'm sure word of mouth has already spread and have repeat customers. Take a gander at the Country Store next door. I loved everything in there. So much vintage stuff....or I'm just old. I came here for a maple creemee on a sunny afternoon. I got there about 30 minutes before closing and it was pretty empty (which made social distancing super easy). The creemee was great, and I sat on a bench in the nearby grassy area just watching the puffy clouds float on by. I would definitely go here again, and could see how it could be fun to bring some kids for ice cream/grassy area run around time. read more

I did it. I finally gave Mildred's a chance last summer after boycotting it in sadness and ticked-off-ness about VCS closing The Bryant House. It was really sad and mind-boggling for the community to see them shut down and gut a lovely restaurant, one of the *very* few in Weston, to cater to tour buses by turning it into basically a cafeteria. The Bryant House employed adults who were warm, kind, and great at their jobs. The Bryant House had a fairly robust menu with everything from burgers and salads to heartier fare, like chicken pot pie and pot roast and griddle cakes. They made a wonderful corn bread and (to use a Seinfeld reference) a great "big salad" with lots of stuff in it besides lettuce. They had an actual bar. They had actual table service so friends and family could get together for an actual dining experience and talk to one of the lovely servers. My family gathered there often; for an adult beverage to warm up with during Christmas in Weston, or a family lunch prior to a family wedding at the church next door, or taking visiting friends out to lunch. They used the glassware and other products found in the store next door - it was perfectly on brand for VCS. People go there for the traditional experience that is so hard to find now. Mildred's, as some commented, had teenagers behind the register goofing off and looking bored. The menu was extremely limited and mostly fried food that you find at today's beach cafes along the coast. Nothing special, and not unique. I understand restaurants aren't conducive to tour bus groups, but I wish they'd instead used part of the store space (they have plenty) to build out a grab n go style cafe, rather than destroy one of the last few restaurants in Weston. Yes it's been hard to find workers willing to wait tables, I also understand, but other places are seeming to figure it out. Seems like the O's are getting money hungry and finding more ways than ever to get as many dollars out of consumers while reducing costs as much as possible. This has led to the opening of Mildred's feeling like a takeover from a corporate America chain rather than a nice traditional-New England eatery run by a family-owned company (it used to feel like that.) Now, a store employee told me Mildred's closed permanently but Yelp is saying it will re-open for the Fourth holiday weekend... we shall see. I truly hope they listen to customers and their neighbors and reconsider their business model in regards to the Weston restaurant. read more

Weston needed Mildred's - a fast, fun, low-key dining option. And yet another feather the the cap of the Orton Family Empire. In a good way, I think. Located behind the Bryant House (right on Rt. 100, to the right of the Vermont Country Store), Mildred's is the place to go for made-with-love fast food if you're not into the gourmet meat loaf and fine dining of Bryant House. Don't get me wrong, it's fine meat loaf, but Mildred's is quicker, cheaper, and more casual. Mildred's has your classic dogs, burgers, sandwiches, and ice cream. But it's so much more. The seating is 100% outside, enjoying the rockers, hammocks, Adirondack chairs, and lawn games of the Vermont Country Store next door. While it's meant to be a basic snack bar, they have daily specials, too. I LOVE daily specials. In addition, the design is adorable - the condiments, napkins, etc are situated on a beautiful old porch, under an awning, and on top of an antique and retro blue and white kitchen stove, which makes it an experience in addition to just a meal. If you're in the mood for an ice cream, burger, or other snack bar type food, Mildred's is the place to go. Really - it's the only place in tiny Weston that serves this type of food at this price point. But beyond the monopoly, it's truly a delight to eat it in a rocking chair or in a hammock and enjoy all that is a Vermont summer. That said, the food is snack bar food - made with love fast food, but nothing to write home about. Ideal for children. read more

Part of the Vermont Country Store/Bryant House Restaurant complex, Mildred's is an outdoor summer place with extra seating in a converted shed in case of rain. Fairly simple burger and ice cream menu. All ingredients seem to be of very high quality and locally sourced--the sweet potato fries are about as good as they can get. The beef is rich and flavorful, but Mildred's tends toward overcooking, which is a little unfortunate. read more

It's been tradition to go to Weston since my mom was a kid. I LOVE Mildred's. It used to only be open in the summer, and considering the vintage, rural, hometown feel of Weston and the VCS, it's an extremely popular place to visit. It is no surprise to see a few hundred people a day, so it can get a little crazy. Super kid and dog friendly. However, the food is well worth the wait, which in my experience, never exceeds 20min. Everything tastes like a homemade classic. A number of the dishes have a Vermont spin, maple syrup is surely in the meal somewhere. My favorite is the fries. I could eat them all day. I often joke with my friends that if I ever share the fries, it should be considered a proposal. Mildred's and the VCS are well worth a visit! read more

Love the food, HATE the service!!! Only go to Mildred's if you have all day to wait while teenagers drag their feet and cook your food without any haste whatsoever. I've come back 20 minutes after placing my order and they hadn't even made it yet! Sometimes they forget your order altogether. I guess that what's happens when you have KIDS running a restaurant. And the worst part is, no one has any remorse or sense of urgency. They laugh when they forget your order, or when it takes 30 mins to make a burger, or when they don't know what's on the menu. They love to chat though... to each other about random topics, or to the customers waiting in the ENDLESS line, meaning that it takes about 20 mins just to order your food!!! So sad that this is one of the only "fast casual" spots in Weston... you'll die waiting for your food! I don't recommend this place to anyone. read more

The maple creemee is tasty and it's a fun location. A fun environment within the Vermont Country Store. However, the service is not welcoming. We got to the window around 5:50, and the cashier basically told us to hurry up because they close in ten minutes. We ordered our creemees and the cashier promptly closed the window after even though it wasn't 6 yet. And they had already put the napkins away for the day. read more

There is a second location on Route 103 in Rockingham, VT. Unusually good burger made from local grass-fed cattle, it really was a whole meal with the lettuce, tomato and onion. Also they make a very good milkshake with lots of ice cream in it. Slower service than a usual snack bar, it looked to be because they were cooking things not cooking ahead and keeping it all heated. read more

Stopped at this roadside eatery on the way to Manchester. Went inside to have some mighty fine delicious tasting dips, cookies, cheeses, etc. Thought Mildred's would be just as tasty. WRONG!!!! Burger like shoe leather, fatty greasy bacon on blt, grilled cheese was certainly not the same as we tasted inside . But if you are very hungry, be sure to order before you go in so that the food will be ready OR NOT when you come out! Better yet, if you pass the place by , you might be better off scraping up some road kill off the street and having that to eat. It would be faster and fresher!! Yuck! read more

WOW! what can you NOT love about mildreds? I spend 6 weeks every summer in Weston, and visit Mildreds ~2x a week. The shakes are amazing, the hamburgers are even better, and it's just an incredible old-fashioned place to spend an hour. LOVE IT. read more
