Just a little local restaurant that shares a building with a small market. Maple Leaf is utilitarian, nothing fancy, but service is good and the food just what you would expect. Since it had been a while since I had a good diner breakfast I figured I would get one of my favorites, the French Toast. My meal was 3 full slices with a little side of butter patties and a small bottle of maple syrup. I expected the French Toast to be a bit sweet, but this was more just bread dipped in eggs and grilled; it lacked the custardy goodness and moist interior I look for in the best French Toast. Overall this was OK, but nothing special. Maple Leaf seems like a nice little place with pretty good food, unfortunately I think I just picked the wrong item and my expectations may have been to high. If you are looking to grab some breakfast in Londonderry give them a try.

We had asked that the appetizers come out asap - that took 15 minutes for the first one, and 20 minutes for the second one. We ordered a local hard cider, and it was delicious. Took 30 minutes to get to the table. Turned out to be worth the wait. Maybe the slow service is a strategy to build anticipation? Chili tastes like something grandma made. Wholesome, and lots of tomato sauce. The chili powder is just enough to add a little bit of flavor. Chili came with a Johnny Cake and sweet butter that were excellent! The salad greens were very good, and seemed to be locally sourced. The salad was well prepared, and delicious. If you are in the area, and have patience to deal with the level of service, this is a decent lunch value with some tasty dishes.

I mentioned this to the proprietor and he said they want prices affordable for locals, so they don't jack them up for tourists. That was a huge plus to me! The restaurant is rather small, but there are enough tables for seating and there was no rush for us to move along. This is a must stop in Chester!

For my meal, I had the chicken and waffles sandwich which were decent; there was crispy fried chicken, cole slaw, in between freshly made fluffy waffles. It was overall decent, but something was missing; I think that was some maple syrup or some hot sauce. My child had the fried Mac and cheese donut; it's a Mac and cheese shaped into a donut; this was good and a cute way to present food. Overall, a good spot to get some breakfast and lunch.

The subdued lighting and the REM-genre music makes for a welcoming place. And of course, ski movies on the large TV screen. I ordered the all-day Breakfast sandwich, 2 eggs, a boatload of shaved ham, cheese, on a Portuguese muffin. Yum. We will be back for sure. A wonderful respite from corporate resort food.
