Located in Manchester VT a very homey little candy shop. You walk into this place in Manchester and just kinda think...why does this store fit perfectly for where I am at at this moment? It's truly a pleasant little store. The lady seemed a little weirded out when my brother and I first walked in. We were in Manchester for the night, on our way back to NY from a week in Maine. She looked at us like....hmm I dunno, don't wanna say anything mean bc she wasn't mean lol, she just looked at us ... weirdly lol. Not sure how else to put it. As our visit went on she ended up being very nice. I just hope she didn't think we were in there to like...steal a couple pieces of candy hahaha. I mean, we aren't 10 years old anymore lol. She then went on to tell us about the store and how all the candy is made there (pretty sure that's what she said). I just remember thinking....how wonderful that this stuff isn't imported from places like...ugh China! They have everything! Every possible kind of candy you can imagine...she has it. She gave us a free sample and it was amazing! There are few great candy shoppes in Manchester. This one is definitely one of them. Prices are a little...high. Just a heads up if you go here. Couple things to consider as to why tho... 1) it's Manchester VT. It's a very bougie little town. Only makes sense most things are pricey there 2) privately owned 3) candy is made on site 4) it's Manchester Vermont lol Should this stop you from going? Absolutely not. Even if you're just in to look...it's worth it. Really a cute store. I hope to return to it one day. Living in Idaho, I rarely make it to Vermont lol. BUT IF I DO! From Mother Myrick's in Manchester, VT, we bought a few chocolate-covered orange peels, chocolate-dipped apricots, along with a box of toffee covered with milk chocolate and ground almonds. I also bought a peach-raspberry muffin and a blueberry muffin. The muffins looked great but were without ANY flavor. Downright awful, not sure what that was about, but the chocolates were very good. I don't think they were quite as good as Lake Champlain chocolates, but they were a close second. I always appreciate the freshness factor (in addition to flavor), so it mattered that the orange peel and apricots were very fresh. If we are ever in the area, I'd come back here for sure, but I'd stick with the chocolates only. No more baked goods ! read more

One or two decent selections like the Mocha Cake and the lemon bars! But not great enough to support the $65 per cake price! They've gone off the deep end! In contrast Vienero's the oldest Italian bakery in NYC tops out out $35 for a beautiful Black Forest cake. Infinitely more complex to make, and in a city with sky high costs. So if they can reasonably price, so can everyone else. For the money a quick trip to Albany WholeFoods does the trick. Sorry MM.. come back to earth and maybe I'll change my tune! My roommates and I received a delivery of some baked goods from Mother Myrick's. Everything was packed up beautifully, in really nice packaging. It was really nice being able to try a local Manchester treat even out here in Boston! I've heard it's a local favorite. We had the lemon lulu cake and the raspberry almond hearts. The lemon lulu cake stayed perfectly intact and was the ideal treat for a unique birthday cake. It had just the right texture and the flavor was delicious and sweet, without the lemon being too overpowering. The raspberry almond hearts had a nice crunch and weren't too buttery. The almond flavor shined through and the raspberry was a great complement. If I'm ever back in Manchester, I hope to check this spot out in person! read more

First visited Mother Myrick's almost 40 years ago and were thrilled to find they were still in business. Love that this family owned business has been local since 1977. Jacki greeted us warmly and offered a sample of butter crunch. We had planned on getting ice cream and were disappointed (but only for a second) that they no longer served ice cream. There were so many other sweet treats to choose from! We settled on a mini lemon lulu and raspberry almond cookie and bought some of their famed butter crunch to go as well as Bernie Bars for gifts. 10% of sales from Bernie Bars are donated to local food pantries. Please don't tell my boyfriend, but I have a new love and will admit it here: it is Mother Myrick's Lemon LuLu cake. I received a gift of this beautiful little cake which arrived in a great box so that it couldn't move at all, and when I unwrapped it, the smell of lemon was intoxicating. I thought the nice thing to do would be to put it in the freezer and wait until my birthday at the end of the week (which is also when my boyfriend would be back from a long business trip), but then I decided to "just have a small piece and freeze the rest". The cake was wonderful.... one bite led to a few more, and then I needed a second little piece (which wasn't so "little"). The rest of the cake went into the freezer, but I heard it calling to me the next day; I couldn't resist taking it out and indulging once again! My boyfriend's trip came at a bad time, no cake for him :) Had I received the larger sized cake, that might not have survived all that long either, but life is short, so eat the cake right away! read more

Oh my goodness, this place is just.. cute, haha. When you first walk in, you'll see a few baskets of "Bernie Bars" for sale, so you immediately know you are in the right place. :) I was able to head in right before closing, and the woman who was behind the counter was very friendly. I had an eclair (one of my all-time favorite pastries), and it was great. Not too sweet, and was just a treat. It's worth a stop in, and upon walking out the door, you'll get a spectacular view of some of the Green Mountains. read more

If you haven't been here yet, you are missing out! It's our go to dessert spot. We get a variety. Yesterday we got an opera slice, a mousse cup and a raspberry pistachio tart. We shared, the opera slice-watch the video they offer- I will guarantee it's better than you can imagine. Tonight we shared the mousse cup. Mousse in a chocolate cup, with decorative shards of chocolate sticking up. This alone merits trying as I've always had Mousse served in a bowl in a tin cup, or a container that needed to be disposed of. The edible chocolate cup is as delicious as the mousse and compliment each other exquisitely. Tomorrow night's dessert will be the raspberry pistachio mousse tart. Another winner! The tart is always baked to perfection, filled with a pistachio mousse and topped with the most perfect raspberries. It was the only one left to take a picture of. We asked for the bagged, chocolate chunk coffee cake that was displayed on the counter top. Instead, they grabbed one from the back, put it in a bag, we paid and were on our way. When we got home we realized the cake was cold and hard as a rock. There had been no mention during the transaction that the replacement cake was frozen. (Crucial info. We wouldn't have bought it if we knew.) I called and the owner was very polite and apologetic about it. (She described them as "fresh frozen" which to me sounds like a contradiction.) Bright side: once it thawed, the coffee cake was tasty. So, a disappointing experience for us, but you might be satisfied if you know what you're getting. read more

I wish there were a way to make this review flash on every chocolate lover's screen, for there cannot be a better place to buy chocolates. For a lifetime, I've searched for the Holy Grail which once lived at Grunings Ice Cream Parlors, in northern Jersey. If you search Grunings today, 55 years since its passing, you yet will discover it's the Brooklyn Dodgers of the hot fudge world. Wegman's once had good hot fudge. Williams-Sonoma remains viable but cost prohibitive, but now comes Mother Myrick's, of little rural Manchester, Vermont! It's not just the hot fudge that kills, but I've never had a better brownie in all my life. It's moist, chewy, intensely chocolatey without being too sweet. It's likely 50 years since my last visit to Mother Myrick's. Don't ask what took so long to go back and order online, but I never forgot how good it was and what joyous times we had taking the kids there. I recall the butter crunch is over-the-top, as well. I'll have to try that next time. I can't end this without another rave about Mother Myrick's hot fudge sauce. True hot fudge sauce is gritty and chewy when it hits ice cream, so if you're accustomed to chemicals in your fudge sauce, used to keep other sauces smooth, then don't try Mother Myrick's. Mother Myrick's is pure, the way hot fudge sauce is intended to be. My search for the Holy Grail has ended! read more

I usually don't give five stars! But there are so many things I love about this place and the staff. Some of the items I like much better than others, and I think that's normal. I'm pretty picky because I bake myself, so I judge pretty harshly on the baked goods LOL! There are some things I would do differently, but I think that's a regional difference versus capability. In other words, some of the ways that I would bake the pies might be different than the way that it's done here, but that's pretty cool because I have tasted some new things! Lemon Lulus have become somewhat of a legend in our home. We have had them shipped, we have driven from New York to Vermont for them, we have made relatives load their trunks up with them, all because a holiday isn't complete without one. In fact, when I got married this year, I knew I had to have Lemon Lulettes as a favor! They were delicious, of course, and they all looked beautiful on our tables. Jacki was extremely easy to work with, all 220 were perfectly packaged for the drive to New York, and we couldn't have been happier with the results. I'm also happy I ordered a few extra because they freeze perfectly and are a great treat that taste as good as the day they were made. Wow, buttercrunch is unbeatable!! Fudge is excellent especially all those with maple flavor. Must have to take home...the jar of fudge sauce for ice cream...heated preferably. Just to round things off some chocolate carmel chews. Of course all Halloween candy is 50% off. The cakes are nothing to write home about, nor are the chocolates. Pretty basic, I wouldn't say they are made with high quality ingredients for the exorbitant prices they charge. Being a very health conscious person, I know what the ingredients are in their lemon lulu cake and you couldn't pay me to eat that, NOOO thank you. About the only thing they have going for themselves is they make pretty good butterscotch candy, if you're willing to pay their ridiculously high price for a small box of them. Manchester being a touristy town makes its money from the affluent who pass through here, and these mom and pop places up-charge accordingly not really caring much for the locals. the lady who owns the place isn't one of the nicest ppl I've had the displeasure to deal with either. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about this bakery. We wanted to celebrate my father's 80th birthday with his favorite dessert. We ordered linzer tortes and shipped them across the US. The owner was incredibly helpful and thoughtful through the whole process. The tortes were perfect! We all had one to celebrate. The taste, per my father, was perfect and reminded him of the ones he ate in Linz, Austria. I have nothing to compare it to but it was delicious. Our new family favorite. A great family run bakery. Absolutely the best chocolate in Vermont, and the world's best (seriously) Buttercrunch candy. The Buttercrunch is painstakingly hand dipped and is offered with either milk or dark chocolate. I recommend the dark chocolate. Artisan chocolate at its best......try the Grand Marnier Cherry Cordials, Truffles, Fudge, and the beautiful cakes. The shop is a lovely place to browse, and there are plenty of samples. I am not a fan of fudge (too sweet for me) but their fudge is very creamy and flavorful. Ron and Jackie (the owners) are wonderful people, who do a lot for the community. I am proud to support their business. They have built up a huge mail order business as well, and can send their wonderful creations all over the U.S.. read more

It has however moved from the old location where they sold ice cream and much more--this IS a loss but the candy part of the business is still very much alive as is the Web based business. Now located in a small plaza just North of the ORVIS store. Sells candy and similar stuff---some is pricy but ya know the ingredients are pricy. Not going to pay Hersheys prices here---and not going to get that over salted goo either. Many many choices and friendly staff. read more
