We all ate the Buffett last night and enjoyed it very much. We were all craving comfort food after a week of vacation and a long day on the road. I was able to find plenty of vegetarian options including some delicious tomatoes that tasted home grown. My omnivore family members were happy as well with fried fish, chicken, shrimp, and more....all fried however. We would stop again given the chance. read more

UPDATE: Now that this is the only place to eat within 15 minutes from my house, I have had the opportunity to dine there frequently. I have come to realize that the food at Mildred's is "hit or miss" and the service is mostly a miss. Since we usually don't have a lot of time to dine, we always get the buffet. They tend to stop replenishing an hour or 2 before close, even if there are a lot of patrons still coming in for it. I find Saturdays to be the best day to visit. I can count on the fried catfish to be amazing. If you come on a day when they're serving fried green tomatoes, it's a lucky day. The banana pudding is always great. I will still continue to dine here, but I won't bring my out of town guests any more. Overall, I enjoy Mildred's and have learned to accept their shortcomings since I live close by. I personally would not travel any far distances to dine here. read more

My family and I absolutely love the food here! Always a good variety of choices. Mildreds homemade squash casserole is mouth watering. The mac and cheese is yummy as is the catfish, no tarter sauce needed either! Good stuff!! I'm glad to see she got rid of most of the teenaged girls working there, they weren't good help. Always gossiping and could never get your drink filled. Mildred herself stays up there to even greet the customer. She will come around to make sure you're being taken care of. She and her staff were ever so polite when my daughter was 3 weeks old and would start fussing in there. Instead of making a scene and try to shoo me out like other restaurants had, they would coo at my daughter and tell me it was ok, they were mom's too. Wonderful place! read more

I live in Indiana but visit family near Athens, AL -- and my first visit to Mildred's was this week -- I have NEVER had better fried green tomatoes, peach cobbler, or banana pudding!!! Those are worth the visit. Going to go back yet this week before returning to Indiana -- and definitely on return visits! Yeah, Mildred's -- wish you could inspire other restaurants to serve fried green tomatoes that truly are the real-deal rather than those frozen breaded, thickly sliced tomatoes that are goey slimey inside that breading -- after cooked. Mildred's is worth the drive from Huntsville for some great southern food. The cabin-like restaurant with rocking chairs on the porch is very inviting too. The food is always good, and my favorite day to go is Sunday for the turkey and dressing. I enjoy the variety of sides: sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, green beans, pinto beans, turnip greens, mashed potatoes, and the list goes on. The sweet tea is great also. Strawberry cobbler and banana pudding are my favorite desserts. I enjoy going on a weekend when I have time to enjoy the 30 minute drive from Huntsville and take my time having a filling and delicious meal. read more

Great food and service. Traveling through they area we were ready for some home cooking and it didn't disappoint. Wish I lived close by.

I knew this was bound to be good when I saw that their large parking lot was almost full. The chicken and dressing was great and the fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever eaten. I didn't think that there was anyway to improve on some of the banana pudding I've had in the past - but- this was hands down the best I've ever had. There were lots of meat, vegetable, and dessert choices and the cornbread and rolls were also great. There is also a salad bar and soft serve ice cream. All of the waitresses worked hard taking care of customers, keeping drinks filled and tables clean. Friendly people, great service, great food, nice facility - and - the price totaled $8.01 incl tax and drink for all you can eat. read more

We went back to give Mildred's another try last week. The old lady behind the cash register was really hateful to us. We walked out & won't ever be back. Mildred needs to get someone with some "people skills" to interact with the customers. This lady was despicable! read more

It was Beautiful crisp October Sunday when my husband and I decided to give Mildred's a try. The restaurant was built as to save the huge old trees that are scattered around the property. Our food was hot and everything we had was wonderful. They have their Cornbread Salad on Sunday only..."Oh my goodness"...what an amazing salad. Our server was prompt, friendly and kept checking to see if we needed anything. Their fried chicken was super and the desserts were too. "oh, yes...we will be back. A great Southern buffet with a moderate price. We drive over from Athens on a regular basis and are never dissappointed. When family comes up from Tuscaloosa they always want to go to Mildred's. Salad bar is excellent with 6-8 cold choices, cornbread salad is great. Fried chicken is the best and always hot. Also have choices of 3-4 other entrees. Veggies are from grandmothers Sunday kitchen. Choices regularly include:mashed potatoes, green beans (wow) boiled cabbage (the best) fried green tomatoes, pinto beans (the best anywhere), mac and cheese, corn etc. Desserts include banana pudding (like Mom made), soft serve, peach cobbler and great cakes. My wife says the cakes are awesome. Service is exceptional with our gal running to keep the tea flowing, and her great smile is at no extra charge. She makes us feel like she is glag we are there. The checkout lady always has a smile and how you doin? If you want a Southern atmosphere and excellent food you have found the right place, best around by far! read more

I love catfish and I've missed whole fried catfish since moving to north Alabama. We used to go to D'Licious but they closed. Found my new place for catfish. Buffet had a lot of stuff on it that I love but I stuck with whole catfish, shrimp and hushpuppies and was not disappointed. My husband liked the food too. If you like mediocre food, have no tastebuds, enjoy being treated abusive when you are not satisfied with your food - go ahead believe the reviews and enjoy. The "buffet" is two hot bars and one poorly stocked cold bar. The food on the buffet reminds me of the commercial/industrial food for Sysco, US Foods and Sam's Club. I couldn't bring myself to eat the bar with its commercial Banquet Chicken, shriveled corn from the can in cloudy liquid, those funny creamed potatoes that looks like runny paste, limp and fragmented green beans from the can, course chopped iceberg lettuce with bottled dressing options. My group opted for 1 steak platter, Fried Green Tomatoes, Philly Steak, order of fries because the sandwich doesn't come with a side and a salad. Fried Green Tomatoes are salted then dredged/battered in a commercial mix that reminds me of Louisiana Cajun in the box /commercial barrel at Sav-a-lots. They were really salty, no green tomato twang, just horribly disappointing. They aren't served with any kind of dip - and all they offer is a cup of the bottled dressing of the salad bar. Salad was a one trip to the "salad bar". The tomatoes were mushy like they had been frozen. The lettuce wasn't even a mix just course chopped iceberg. The shredded cheese was kind of dry and seemed like fake commercial "cheddar" with its edges kind of white/old. Several ingredients looked dumped out of containers, cans, jars. Bacos looking topping. Cucumbers were the freshest thing it seemed Dressing is available in commercial sized bottles covered in drips and kind of greasy feeling. Needless to say, it was underwhelming. Stay away from the steak! They'll deny it but it is the kind that is injected with seasoning, water and preservatives. I've mistakenly bought this product at the store and their steak taste exactly like it with the addition of a ton of "grill" seasoning. My fellow diner asked me to sample her bazaar seasoned steak - and I was so sorry she was paying $10 for that. She asked if she have another cooked without the seasonings since the server had assured her it was just a simple steak because with all the seasonings. She frowned and went for the manager who came to the table went to snatched the plate and said I'll just take it off the check. Whereas, my fellow diner said, "I was looking forward to a meal and I'm hungry and would like another steak." That's when the manager but her hands on her hips, looked over her glasses and retorted, "Well, apparently your sensitive to the taste of salt. I don't see why you need another, this steak was cooked perfectly - I can tell by looking at it. You must not realize how things are really cooked - of course you have to use salt. These steaks are 100% good steaks and you just don't know good steak." Whereas, my fellow diner said, "I asked the waitress if there was seasoning used on it and she said no. Now, I would really like it if I could have a steak without the grill seasonings." At that point the manager snatched the plate with a scowl on her face and stormed to the kitchen. It took another 15-20 minutes to get the second steak. When the steak was sampled, it still had that injected celery salt/seasoned salt funny taste. The texture was funny - I don't know how to explain other than it had no grain to it and it was spongy. This is super salty - so if you have high blood pressure or on a low salt diet DO NOT GET THIS. Philly Steak Sandwich is only that - no sides for the price of about $5. I have had better Philly's made with steakums. This reminded me off cheap deli roast beef tossed on a griddle and dried out to the point the edges were like jerky. There was hardly any onions or peppers maybe a tablespoons worth and the cheese was like Kraft white American melted over this once "hot mess" that came to the table room temp. I asked for some A1 and got a sigh and rolled eyes from the server before she disappeared and returned with it 10 minutes later. Apparently ordering off the menu meant she had to work more - especially since my tea glass set empty for 20 minutes as she worked the 4 surrounding tables giving them tea and chatting and sitting the tea pitcher at the servers station twice before returning to our table and having to back for the pitcher. She then spilled my tea on the table as she sat the glass down, then scowled at me like I did it on purpose. She then refilled the glass with a growl then took a stack of napkins from us and wiped most of the spill up. The fries were dark golden, crunchy and overly salted. Some of them were fried to the point they were hollow. Sad to say, the fries were the best dish ordered and that really isn't saying much. Don't believe the reviews on Mildred's, unless you like a poor rendition of bad school cafeteria or mess hall food. There are lots better places to eat in Ardmore than this, promise. If you are on I-65, go the extra 17 miles to Exit 351. There is a bigger variety. read more

Mildred's proves you don't have to be a hole in the wall to serve good, buffet-style southern food. I've never ordered from the menu, and why would you with an $8 all-you-can-eat buffet, but the food served from the buffet is topped only by the friendliness of the staff. Mildred's is definitely worth the short drive off the interstate. read more

I been patronizing Mildred's since back in the 90's when it was on HWY 53 outside of Ardmore, Still have the same great recipes and food of yesteryear , Its usually clean, the service is Great, the food is Excellent and I just love this Place. We've passed this place several times on our way to Nashville, and every time the parking lot is COMPLETELY packed out. We were house hunting today near Ardmore and decided to investigate. The atmosphere was nice, very jumpy with lots of friendly faces, customers and staff alike. I could probably compare it to an under-decorated Cracker barrel, complete with checkers and a fireplace. There was ample seating, although it was barely enough for the massive crowd whose caravan of vehicles nearly filled the rather large parking lot. There were some great options on the menu, all of them catered specifically to a country-style theme complete with frog legs, fried green tomatoes, and some other country staples you can probably imagine. We opted for the buffet, it seemed like that's what most of the people there were doing, and it was very cost efficient since we had our two kids with us. There wasn't a skinny person in the joint, and the reason was obvious when we filled our plates. The salad bar was fresh and there were some great side options like macaroni salad, coleslaw, and what appeared to be (I didn't try it, although i'm sure it was great) cornbread salad! Not something you see every day. The entree line had pulled pork barbecue that you could cut with a fork, corn nuggets, fried okra, mac and cheese, home fries, pintos, and some others I can't recall... But what stood out the most was their fried chicken. In fact, they would bring out a large pan of breast, thighs, and wings and it would be gone in a matter of minutes. One time after running out I stood in line with probably a dozen other people waiting for them to bring more out. It was incredibly good, hot juicy and flavorful like you would expect and not too greasy; and I'm hard to please when it comes to fried chicken. Dessert was fantastic, they usually have some kind of fruit cobbler (although they ran out while I was there) and cakes, as well as a soft serve machine. Another note: Eight bucks buys adults all you can eat buffet, kids are half price, and three and under eat FREE. Our bill for two adults and two kids was $23 and some change. If you're passing through Ardmore and want to fill up without breaking the bank, this is the PLACE. read more

This was my first trip to Mildred's but will be planning to stop there again on any future trip to Nashville. The restaurant was very clean and had plenty of seating. The selection of food was good and the quality seemed better then what a person would expect at a buffet. The only complaint would be that the chicken and dumpling was only warm. read more

We have been to this restaurant two times, once when they first opened in Ardmore and again tonight. We thought we would give the restaurant another chance since we didn't care for it the first time. Tonight the food was awful just like we experienced the first time. It tasted old and it was only 5pm. It was a breakfast buffet and the adult price was $9. We hardly ate anything it was so bad. Also, the service was terrible. We asked for a high chair when we were seated but after noticing the waitress was more concerned with entertaining her boyfriend so we got our own. Our waitress was also rude and unpleasant. The cashier was the worst of all the staff we encountered. She said I could not check out without a ticket. I told her we didn't have one since our waitress never gave us one. The cashier walked over to our table and got the ticket (it was just placed there) and waved it in the air like "I told you so!" I told her about how we didn't like the food and she said that was strange because everyone loves it. The only thing we liked is the ice cream. read more
