Wife, kids and I made the journey up to Mildred's from Huntsville - it was worth the trip! This place was hopping on a Saturday afternoon, we got here right at 1130ish and were able to easily find a seat. Plenty of parking available despite being busy. There are two buffet islands, one with main course and sides and some desert, the other with a salad bar and more desert options. There is also an ice cream machine that my wife swears tastes just like Chik-fil-a's. The food is almost all southern, and some of it got rotated out while we ate (the chicken and dumplings gave way to country fried steak and gravy). Fried Chicken, pulled pork, mashed potatoes, fried okra, corn, green beans, man n cheese -- the list goes on and on. By and large, the food was exceptional. The fried chicken was moist and the breading is flavorful, the mashed potatoes were good. Pulled pork was succulent and the BBQ sauce was great. The strawberry shortcake was delicious. Only downsides from my visit was that the corn bread was a tad dry and not sweat (that's a preference thing) and there was no gravy for the mashed potatoes. That being said the yeast rolls are great. The chicken fried steak got rotated in with some pepper gravy (a bit watery) but these were the only nitpicks I found with my visit. Overall the best southern food and best buffet near Huntsville. My waitress ('Granny') was hustling, she made sure the plates were cleared and the drinks stayed full. Everyone seemed to know her and she was able to be friendly with the locals while taking care of business. All of the employees I saw were busy, wiping down the buffet lines, bringing in heaps of food and just making it a great experience. The value was phenomenal -- $12.50 for adults and $7 for kids. I wish they served Coke products and lived next door then they'd be perfect. If you're reading about this place and you live in Hunstville, its worth the drive. If you're a local, its probably a staple and you already know. 5 stars, would recommend. Thanks!

I came here from Nashville as Alabama was the only state I'd never visited. Being a So Cal resident I could not believe how good the food was and how cheap it was for one person - 10 bucks. Fried chicken to die for - cinnamon buns were so good - mac + cheese also super delicious. Granny was great too and let me take a picture with her! The place was packed but everyone so friendly!

What a gem! Felt like I walked back into my mom's house. Open seating and everyone was so polite. Loved the covered porch and the huge rocking chairs. Place was delightful. It's a buffet and it's incredible. Started with salad bar and then moved onto all the comfort food of home. Started with fried chicken, catfish and fried okra. The mash potatoes and gravy reminded me of my childhood. To finish off lunch we had peach cobbler with soft serve ice cream. The price of this amazing meal was only $9.45. Definitely worth a drive. Great job!

I met a good friend for lunch Wednesday at Mildred's in Ardmore. There's so much traffic in Huntsville that the 30-35 minutes drive was 75 minutes. When I pulled up to the restaurant, I was shocked at how crowded the parking lot was at 1:15. We went inside and there were no tables vacant. We stood 10 minutes waiting and I found two seats on a bench that we put my friend's older brother and his wife to sit for another 20 minutes. The hot bar was clean and well stocked. The salad bar looked like a tornado went thru. We all got foods from the hot bar. The chicken and dumplings and black eyed peas were phenomenal! I couldn't believe how good both tasted. Dessert was chocolate cream pie, honey buns, cake and ice cream. I found out the reasons it was so crowded. Wednesday is senior day and the buffet is $1 off for age 65 and up. Our waitress said chicken and dumplings brings a big crowd. I will attest to that statement! The foods are country cooking made by your grandmother. Many of the vegetables are "seasoned" so vegetarians beware. Foods like the fried green tomatoes, fried okra and fried squash are not "seasoned". The salad bar has vegetarian options. If you enjoy country cooking, please stop by and check out Mildred's. Their foods are delicious!!' Health rating July 10, 2024 was 95.

Food was all you can eat! The chicken was so damn good and the Mac n cheese. The shrimp and chicken casserole was delicious too. Wait staff was great and kept our drinks full! The place its self was very welcoming and clean! Definitely would recommend

We stopped by this restaurant after doing some apple picking at Scott's Orchards. This is a buffet type meat and 3 place. It was crowded which I took to mean that the food was good. And I was right. I ate mostly veggies since I'm not a fan of a lot of meats that come on buffets. The Mac and cheese was delicious...not like grandma's but good. The okra, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes and green beans were seasoned just right. A little disappointed with the dessert choices but I took that to mean I didn't need it. I plan to make apple picking a yearly adventure so I'll definitely eat here again. Next time I'll take pictures.

Great customer service and I greatly appreciate their accountability/ willingness to make up for our previous visit. Last night we started with the crab croquettes, STELLAR. Absolutely loved and devoured these. The crunch on the croquette was to die for, topped with a refreshing crab salad, perfect. For my entree, I had the lamb rack with house potatoes & broccolini. My boyfriend had the blackened catfish with the grits. Both dishes were phenomenal . To finish up we tried their new chocolate strawberry bread pudding, so rich and delicious. This restaurant is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots in Northern Alabama. Go give them a try! We'll 100% be back.

This seemed to want to be a foodie destination. The half, fried chicken included a small drumstick, small wing, piece of breast, and another piece that was unidentifiable but might have been a thigh. It had a spicy sweet sauce covering, which we opted to have on the side. That was a good choice because the hint of cayenne was still too much for one diner. We asked about the slaw -- whether it had a cream or vinegar dressing. The server described it as a "creamy vinegar." It made no difference because the dressing was so understated that the side tasted more like chopped cabbage than anything else. Disappointing. Finally, I asked the server whether the grilled green beans were actually that. I was more curious than anything else because grilled green beans would take longer to cook. She said yes, they were grilled. I don't think so. They came out fairly quickly and were pretty universally blackened all over like they were cooked in a skillet. Once our food was delivered, we never saw our server again until I asked for the check. So, what I believe was intended to be an elevated dining experience was simply under executed.

The Farmhouse: Where Breakfast Comes Home to Roost…read more If you've read my reviews before, you know I'm not a particularly hard-boiled egg to crack. I don't demand gold-plated cutlery or waiters who can sabre a champagne bottle with a flourish. Give me solid food, a smile that doesn't feel forced, and a room that looks like it's seen a vacuum this decade, and I'll be happier than a biscuit in gravy. That said, The Farmhouse didn't just meet my expectations--it pulled a full-on "Avengers Assemble" and brought them together in a satisfying, bacon-scented breakfast epic. First impressions? Think "Little House on the Prairie" meets "HGTV on a budget"--rustic charm with just enough polish to let you know someone actually tried. The tablecloths are hanging on by a thread (literally), but the space itself is clean, comfy, and as inviting as grandma's front porch. Judging by the bustling Friday morning crowd, I'd say I'm not the only one who got the memo. The service? Friendlier than your favorite aunt at a church potluck. The staff had that rare balance of attentiveness without hovering. There's a sign on the wall that reads, "Come in a stranger, leave as a friend." I half-expected them to follow it up with "You've got a friend in me," Toy Story-style. Now, onto the reason we're all here: the food. Spoiler alert--it didn't disappoint. Mom ordered the Farmhouse Southern Omelette with home fries and gave it rave reviews. She praised the bacon-to-veggie ratio like it was a fine wine pairing and declared the seasoning "just right," in her best Goldilocks impression. The home fries? House-made and heart-warming. My wife went full Southern with the Hearty Breakfast, and it did exactly what it said on the menu--hearty enough to power a tractor and delicious enough to make you consider canceling lunch. She gave special kudos to the biscuits and gravy, which she claimed were "fluffy, creamy, and possibly blessed." As for me, I went for the Big Moo--a 10-ounce ribeye with eggs and a rogue pancake that snuck onto my plate like it was auditioning for dessert. The steak was a tad undercooked but well-seasoned enough that I didn't mind. And the tater tots? Crispy, golden nuggets of joy. I'd pair them with everything if society would let me. I was so pleased, I channeled my inner Ratatouille critic and requested a word with the chef. Chef John greeted me with the kind of genuine smile that says, "Yes, I do get up at 4 a.m. to make magic happen, and no, I don't regret it." He welcomed us back like old friends--which, by the vibe of the place, we might just be now. This, dear reader, is what I imagined when I dreamed of Alabama mornings: honest food, kind people, and a sense that somewhere nearby, a rooster might actually be crowing. The Farmhouse isn't trying to reinvent breakfast--it's just doing it right. To paraphrase The Godfather: Just when I thought I was out (of room), they pulled me back in--with another bite. Bravo, Farmhouse. Never change!

Don't get me wrong, it's still down home fried catfish. And they have some of the best hush puppies you can find. But the quality of the fish, the declining service, and the uneven cooking is concerning. First off, you will have to wait to be seated. That is a given no matter what time you go. They are simply that popular. I expect that and have no problem with waiting. But don't seat my party and make us wait another 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged by the server. There is clearly not enough staff to handle the tables they have. I'd rather sit out front talking with friends and family than be sitting at a table being ignored. Once our server came and took our food and drink orders (she was really nice but obviously overwhelmed), she came back with all of the beverages but one iced tea. When we flagged her down, she apologized and said she'd be right back with it. She didn't return until our food was served. She apologized again about the missing tea and finally got it. The hush puppies were outstanding as always. But the fried catfish had an off taste. And she forgot one of the side dishes on three of our plates. I'm not sure if that was her fault or the kitchen but that doesn't make it right. My baked potato was not cooked through (yes, I had the baked potato instead of the standard fries, an odd choice I admit). The white beans were tasty but on the verge of mush, nothing like the saucy beans I'd had here previously. And our drinks sat empty for long periods of time before anyone noticed. This place is a hidden gem, out in the middle of nowhere, and people drive quite a distance to come here. It's a shame that the food and service seem to be declining because I always enjoy coming here....until this trip.

Seasoning on it didn't cover up the char taste. I settled for a chicken salad (lettuce with pecans and grilled chicken pieces with honey mustard dressing) but the chicken wasn't tender, tasty or fresh tasting.
