My experience at Miles Smith Farm in Loudon, NH was incredible. Carole was the sweetest, most hard-working, and informative farmer you could ever meet. The whole place feels like it's straight out of a storybook--up the hill sits a big farmhouse overlooking the land, with the fresh smell of grass after a rain and two friendly farm dogs greeting you as you arrive. Carole taught us so much about the beautiful animals on the farm and walked us through how to care for them. We even got our hands dirty in the best way--grooming, feeding, walking, and exploring everything Miles Smith Farm has to offer. It was fun, educational, and truly memorable. Throughly enjoyed my first visit to Miles Smith Farm. The cows are relatively friendly, the ones that don't want to be bothered don't come near, and there's a wheel barrow with breads and sweets to feed them. Price is $20 for a self guided walk about. There are full grown cows, baby cows, sheep, goats, pigs and chickens. They also have a store that sells meats from the farm as well. Great place, beautiful highland cows. The flies were awful, I got bit up quite a bit. read more

Bruce and Carole were absolutely wonderful! Bruce patiently walked around the farm with us and introduce us to every single animal. It's very clear that they really care about the animals and enjoy what they do. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! Had the best experience and I would definitely come back. Fine people! Their property is magical. The farm and ranch is how I'd like to live if I was an animal. Their meat is the best! Air B and B was such a memorable experience! We loved the adventure getting there. Sharing a day of our lives and a meal. Haven't seen a rainbow that vivid in my life! I fell asleep staring at the star filled night sky while being serenaded by the sounds of summer. Watched the sunrise, went for a walk and visit with the animals. Made breakfast with farm fresh eggs and bacon! Coffee w cream! Awesome! Loved their store too! Bought some gifts and meat to BBQ at our next spot. Truly a once in a lifetime experience! read more

Need to show this place some love. After a quest for great tasting but yet affordable real maple syrup (sorry, I just can't bring myself to buy stuff in the grocery store anymore), I came across Miles Smith Farm on Yelp. Punched the address into my gps and drove down the long dirt / sand covered road, up the hill and finally to the top (don't worry, if you think you're going the wrong way, you're not. It's at the top of the hill). Parked and walked into the store (on the left), and grabbed a gallon of pure maple syrup for $65. Had small talk with the woman working (she was wicked nice!) and left. The view from the top would be amazing in the fall! Will definitely come back here to try their home-grown meats and for my refill of syrup. read more

Miles Smith Farm is a working cattle farm just outside Concord, New Hampshire (the capital). After many a Google search for a unique, scenic getaway, we somehow found an Airbnb on a farm with Highland "coos" (Scottish cows). I didn't know I could be so enamored by cows, but waking up in the morning to see these magical beasts outside our window was breathtaking. For my husband, it was a trip down memory lane. He lived in Scotland for 5 years and this was his first time seeing Scottish Highland cows in the United States. Airbnb states that the 2-story apartment can fit 7 guests, but I think we brought just the right amount of people - me, my husband, son, and mother. There are 2 bedrooms located upstairs with a child gate installed at the top of the stairs. There were also many more toys than we were expecting, which was super fun for Elijah. In between the two bedrooms, there was a kitchen and three little nooks for reading or playing. I will note that the "cribs" provided are pack 'n plays, so you will need to set them up when you arrive. Because we arrived at 9:30pm, Elijah had fallen asleep in the car. By the time we changed his diaper and set up the pack 'n play, he was wide awake and skeptical of the new room we placed him in. He sat up, holding his stuffed koala, Matilda, for a good 30 minutes on high alert before allowing sleep to take over. Meanwhile, my husband, my mother, and I went to the living room downstairs to drink wine and watch "Footloose"...a ridiculous movie that, as it turned out, none of us had ever fully viewed. The view from both bedrooms is of rugged farmland, Highland cows, and mountains in the background. It's a gorgeous reminder that you've traveled far away from your suburban home to reconnect with nature, if only for a few days. We took Elijah out of his crib and brought him to the toy nook. For a boy who is wary of new things, he took to the new space quite nicely and played for a good portion of the morning. As for other morning rituals, the kitchen had a regular coffee maker as well as a Keurig, and potable tap water from the owners' well. We brought a case of bottled water, but that turned out to be unnecessary. When we stepped outside, we saw a little farm store right across the dirt path and chickens all around. Chickens are great for toddlers because they are kind of the same size. Elijah chased chickens throughout the weekend. Turn right and start to wander to where the animals live. There is a cage where 2 pigs live, a section with a donkey and goats, a yard for horses and a few cows, and then large swaths of farmland where most of the cows graze. The female cows (and young bulls) are on one side of a fenced in area, and the fully grown bulls are on the other side. Beware, most of these animals are kept behind electric fences. We didn't let Elijah stray too far. The bulls were closest to our house, and so we made a few friends quickly. They would greet us by the electric fence for a nice pet or a hunk of baguette. David quite enjoyed feeding the bulls baguettes. He said their tongues were like dinosaurs' and felt he was in Jurassic Park. Not everyone may like this part since the cows were so lovely, but as I said, this is a working farm. Our second night, we grilled up some really nice steak that cut like butter (sorry!). We also bought fresh eggs and ice cream from the farm store. As idyllic as the scenery was, I think our two-day stay was just the right amount of time. We arrived on a Thursday night and spent all day Friday and Saturday on the farm, leaving Saturday evening. Because the cattle are behind fences, there is limited area open to guests, so this isn't a place for miles-long nature walks. It is also worthwhile to take a trip into downtown Concord. It's an easy drive (ask the owners how to get there rather than relying on your phone) and is a clean, sweet capital city. If you're lucky, you may overhear someone say "Wal Maht" and really feel like you've traveled to another state. I would be remiss to not mention the pleasant 3 and a half hour drive as well. (Everything seems to be 3 and a half hours from our house.) We took almost no highways and got to drive through the Green Mountains in Vermont, pleasant small towns, and other scenic passes. We'd been locked up in our house for so many months, it felt nice just to drive farther and farther away from it. This short getaway was rejuvenating in a way. We felt far removed from our everyday lives and got to connect with beautiful, mystical animals. For a farm stay, some may choose a closer drive. After all, there is plenty of farmland in upstate New York. However, we were quite happy with our choice to travel to New Hampshire. read more

My wife, two boys and I stayed at the Miles Smith Farm guest home. We came up from Long Island to get away from the people for a few days and this place was perfect. Miss Carole had the wood burning fireplace blazing and the firewood stocked. My son loved the cows and the "house pigs" that came to visit (when we were ready!). The upstairs had a bunch of toys for our toddler and a whole library of DVD's and VHS movies. The jetted hot tin was great. I'd pay double to stay here during autumn. read more

We received a package of ground beef from Miles Smith Farms. It was shipped 2 day, and we received it on time (shipped to SC). The package was in great condition. They used a recyclable inner freezer pack to keep the meat frozen. There were 10 1lb packages and four Ice packs. Everything was still cold/frozen. Our stay exceeded my expectations! Carole was so good interacting with our children and teaching them about the farm and the apartment onsite was just charming! We had planned to hike in the white mountains but all that went away when the kids didn't want to stray far from the farm. Their favorite was walking the goats and feeding the highlanders. I highly recommend purchasing your beef locally from Miles Smith Farm. I am a conscious consumer and found this place as I was heading to Lake Winnipesaukee. Now I stop by every time I am in the area to see the beautiful farm and cows, and stock up on organically-raised meats and dairy. The owners/operators, Bruce and Carole Soule, left the corporate world to pursue their passion for sustainable farming. They have a barn store with all cuts of grass-fed/grass-finished and grass-fed/grain-finished Scottish Highlander and Angus beef, as well as other local organic foods like cheeses, raw milk and ice cream from other farmers. My family and I enjoyed staying at the Inn at Miles Smith Farm for a week in June 2014. Carole, Bruce and their staff were all welcoming, kind and helpful hosts. My family could not have enjoyed a vacation week on a farm more. My children (ages 8 and 10) very much enjoyed experiencing living on a working farm. They got to meet the animals, including pregnant Charlotte the pig and Angus the rabbit, who they often took out of his cage to play with. We hired Carole for horseback riding lessons, and she was a great professor. With her great expertise and love for children, my two children each learned how to saddle, mount, ride and trot. My children enjoyed riding the cows, a novel experience. The farm store has delicious foods and treats. The raw milk maple yogurt was my favorite indulgence. The guest apartment was freshly renovated and beautifully decorated - we felt at home and did not want to leave again. The attention to detail outfitting and stocking the apartment was impressive; we found everything we could possibly need throughout the apartment, including a full kitchen, books, magazines, games, radio and television. Carole and her staff recommended nearby attractions that were great for our family: hiking Mount Kearsarge, New Hampshire Telephone Museum, Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum, Polar Caves, Fishing at Clough Pond, McAuliffe-Shepard Planetarium, Squam Lakes Natural Science Center and Chuckster's amusement park. Though everything I just wrote is fantastic, it's Carole and Bruce with all of their kindness, enthusiasm and friendliness who made our time unforgettable. Thank you very much. Bought a wonderful grass fed highlander steak. The person staffing the store told me that with the lean meat I had bought I need to modify my cooking a bit- she used the language" low and slow". I cooked it the way I cook buffalo. Anyways, it was delicious! Next I am going to try the all grass fed sausage( all beef) with no unknown ingredients( for example'other' spices) Noticed that they had other meats from other local farms too. It was cool going there-cuz- I got to see the cows as I was driving up the hill and the view from the farm was so pretty. read more

Found this place from a small sign on the side of the road and randomly decided to give it a try. VERY glad that I did!!! It was a Sunday afternoon so they were obviously closed but when the owners saw us drive up they came right out to open up the store just for us. We got a personal tour of the property, talked to them about there philosophy on farming these cattle, and got to buy some great meat. They have angus and highland cattle so it was cool to get to try the two different types, same cut, side by side. In short, they have a great product, raised with a conscience for the animal and the consumer. Highly recommended, 5-stars for sure!! read more

Bought some highlander ground beef here after a brief tour of the operation. Both the humane practices of the owners and the quality of the meat was very good. They offer a lot of different types of meat, as well as other locally made food goods, and I will definitely be going back to try some more cuts. read more
