the store has a lovely variety of items and the staff are helpful and friendly. i am uncomfortable…read moreseeing so much focus on harry potter, considering how the author is hateful and donates profits from the series to promote a bigoted worldview. even secondhand, i'd say it promotes her legacy and personally i feel unwelcome as a trans person when stores heavily promote merchandise tied to such a bigoted author who is actively working to make my life worse. i also suspect that some art pieces in the store are ai generated; that bothers me bc of ethical concerns like the environmental toll and how it scrapes from artists without their permission. i'd rather support actual artists. i do like this store overall, i just wish they'd reconsider featuring franchises from authors who are against human rights and have more products from real people. i don't think there's bad intentions and i hope this doesn't come across too harshly, this is just me hoping that a store i enjoy will become even more enjoyable.

If you are from the area, you know Nine Mile Stretch. If not - 55 aka Grant Street. So, Wednesday evening, my better half was in from out of state, traveling from a work location, he came up the Nine Mine Stretch and saw their sign. Thursday morning, we found the place. Quaint setting on a "real" farm. We didn't know they were having an Open House and had recently re-opened after the winter months. By the time we left, the parking lot was packed and the shop was a beehive of activity. When we arrived, right at 10, they had just opened and there were already a couple shoppers. We were greeted sincerely and warmly - and I watched that sincere interest in customers (brand new or established) over and over and over while I was there. Better half was pleased with antique selection - spoke about it numerous times over the past couple days. As for me - candles galore, gift items - from small budget stocking stuffers to larger items - kept me fully engrossed and I know I didn't see the full shop. What a wow factor and attention to detail. Customer service was spot on perfect. If you love going to Brown County, Indiana even half as much as I do - you will be head over heels about this unique antique and gift shop. We ordered two lunches, both the 1/2 grilled cheese and soup. One with tomato soup and the other with chili. We also ordered the *special* $5 egg salad sandwich. The grilled cheese came out as some cheese microwaved between a soft burger bun. Really disappointing and crappy. The chili and soup were okay. The egg salad sandwich was very basic and lacking flavor, served on classic white bread. It was also a weird dining setup, it felt like we were eating in a giant and deserted beer hall. Total transparency: we both expected more from one of the nation's largest dairy farms. We also thought the food would be a little cleaner, like a farm-to-table experience and less processed, but it tasted like food we could get at a gas station. My husband was disappointed with the ice cream selection at the milk bar, he was hoping for more of a variety other than the basic strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, etc. We also needed to get DEF for our truck from the Fair Oaks BP and my husband called it "highway robbery" for the cost we paid. He said it was 2 or 3 times what he normally pays. In summary, a total tourist trap with crappy lunch food. I also didn't know about their animal abuse case from 2019 until after we left. And the allegations about neglect and improper slaughter in 2023. Gross and sad.
