Wow. I just at a Special Spider Roll and boy did it deliver. I'm a bit of a sushi snob but Mill Bay Sushi does significantly better than most other small-ish retail shops. Lucky folks who live nearby and get to experience this as often as possible. read more

Sushi on the island is not easy to come by. I have to say the sushi is not bad given the fact that it is in a less populated area and ingredients don't get shipped to the island easily. Not sure why Mill Bay Sushi is FYidoctors - Mill Bay on Yelp. The page was Mill Bay Sushi but I am guessing FYidoctor decide the steal the page and they put a request through which Yelp accepted. Strange. Anyways The sushi was not bad. It is in fact overpriced in my opinion but again, good sushi is hard to come by in the area. I would say it is 3.5 stars. The sushi were tasty. I had to gomae and I really liked their sauce and they were very generous with it. It would be much more tastier if they don't over cook the spinach and drain more of the water out of the spinach, it would be much more tastier. I also got the salmon don. It came with 10 pieces of thinly sliced salmon. They do use high quality wild salmon. The draw back were that it was not as fresh as I hoped it would be. Again, this could be the fact that they are located on the island and ingredients are shipped to them once a week and not daily. The balance of the rice was slightly off. It was not a big issue. I did wish the portion size was a big bigger. I also tried a piece of spicy salmon. That was delicious. B liked the fact that they used a spicy sauce and not the Korean spicy sweet sauce. Mill Bay sushi is ran by Koreans. We did take out. I have noticed that they closed to section of the restaurant. I am guessing that they are short staffed and don't want to ruin the service if they open the entire restaurant area. This was very considerate of them. I do have to say, the food was not bad. Take out menu prices are lower than what you're actually charged. I believe that's illegal? Had vegetarian box meal. The sushi filling was undentifiable and mushy. Not impressed. read more

Really overpriced but they do have some lunch time specials. I ordered the teriyaki chicken. The presentation was nice but it was a scant serving of chicken and not that great. It was mostly cabbage on a tiny bit of rice and I think maybe 1.5 oz of chicken at the very most. Despite the 4 little slices of California roll containing real crab, they were just ok. The tempura was good and my husband gave his sushi a 3.5. We were served the smallest little teapot of tea and we were never offered a refill. So overall our experience was good, not great, but not bad either. read more

EAT THEIR OVERPRICED FOOD AT YOUR OWN RISK We just spent $70 on take-out dinner for two. It was truly and seriously below very bad. Chicken yakitori was recycled battered deep fried chicken on skewers swimming in a honey-like puddle. This was not fresh food. This was left overs being re-used to make a new dish. Unacceptable. Our 2nd visit to Mill Bay Sushi left us very disappointed and leaving before we had finished eating our dinner! The food was very good but unfortunately the service was just not there! When asked for small plates to enable us to share our sushi plates without making a complete mess they were tossed on the table, that was the last we saw of any server. We would have ordered more plates but having waited more than 15 minutes after finishing our first plates and still not getting any service we left. It is unfortunate, the servers were moving around clearing tables in our area but none came to see how we were doing. Great sushi, bad service. Possibly the best sushi I've had on the island, beats out anything in Victoria. Unfortunately we almost walked out because it took so long to get service. Took us over 30 minutes to get our food, and the tables around us shared the experience. Could be a matter of a big place with not enough staff, but we were there off peak hours so it seemed a bit odd. Tuna tataki is a different take on a classic that I liked a lot. read more

We've been here 3 times in the last year, mainly because with limited restaurants in the area we keep wishing it to be better... First visit a year ago it was pretty good. Decent food and decent service. Not great but okay. But I love Japanese food so thought we'd try it again a few months later. Second visit was bad. It was a slow time on a slow night and the service was awful. So bad that I actually called the next day to talk to the mngr (never done that before). Sadly mngr was unavailable and I didn't follow it up. Thought we'd give them another chance recently and like the first time ... just meh. Nothing glaring but nothing making me jump up and down. And note to all restaurants - NOTHING should come out of the kitchen seconds after it was ordered. We ordered gyoza and the server literally walked into the kitchen with our order and 60 seconds later back out with the plate (greasy and obviously nuked). We might go back in another year but then again... maybe not. read more

The quality of the food here is exceptional. It is finely made sushi that is easily in my top three on the island. What's best is the freshness of the fish and the rice (that is used quite sparingly). Only 5 months old they said so I'm sure will be very successful in the future. いただきます！ read more

Very good food and service is outstanding. I have eaten in a few times pre-COVID but have gotten take out almost every Friday night and it is still not getting boring. Nigiri and rolls are very good and also the Korean style chilli pork dish over rice is out of this world good. The lunch time bento is a great deal. Worth a visit if you want Japanese or Korean food in the Mill Bay Area. read more
