No wonder this place gets such great reviews on pretty much all forums. Mill Street Inn was a pleasure to stay at. Location - superb. We could walk to the waterfront, go out for dinner, do shopping etc. without ever stepping foot in a car. Can't beat the location. Service - staff are so polite and friendly. They gave us recommendations on places to eat and some of the stuff that was going on in Newport. Facility - they have on site parking which was great. The main entrance area is tastefully decorated with lots of natural lighting, which I loved. There's even a nespresso machine for all the coffee lovers out there. Our room was lovely. Very spacious, just the right amount of decor without feeling overwhelmed. We loved the fact that they left us little snacks (brownie, fudge, fruit leather) in a welcome bag. We appreciated the little touches! My only negative was that our bathroom was on the smaller side. It was hard to open the door when another person was inside and having more than 1 person in there feels pretty congested. The shampoo/conditioner/body wash were luxe! Breakfast is included and we got some delicious almond croissant, fruit cup and granola with yoghurt. We had a lovely time and I would not hesitate to recommend Mill St. Inn to anyone.

My wife and I were invited to a close friend's daughters wedding in Newport this weekend. Having to travel to Newport from out of state we needed to book accommodations near the venue. We read online reviews and looked at pictures and info about Mill Street Inn and decided to give it a try. The Inn is located in the heart of downtown near the wharf, shopping, restaurants and train station. It occupies an old mill building. There are both single floor units and 2 story units with private roof top decks. We chose a single floor unit because we were just staying the 1 night and were not planning on being in the room much. We arrived and were relieved to find the Inn has a private parking lot. The lot isn't big but if you have traveled to Newport before you will understand how convenient it is to have off street free parking. We were greated by 2 wonderful reception hosts. They were not only friendly but very helpful. Due to the historic nature of the property an elevator was not allowed so its stairs only. It's only 2 floors but staff offered to carry our bags if needed. We were given a welcome bag of locally sourced goodies, instructed how to order our complimentary breakfast and given directions to locate the rooftop deck. We made our way to our room and we were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. There are exposed brick walls and huge beams from the original mill along with a vaulted ceiling our the seating area. The furniture was tasteful and all the room appointments were top notch. From the nespresso coffee maker, mini fridge and flat screen TV to the large walk in shower with rain shower head, we found the room comfortably and very clean. We quickly left our bags and made our way to the rooftop deck to enjoy the views. There is plenty of seating on it and you get views of the Newport Bridge and a bit of the harbor. It was lovely. We went back to our room and followed instructions to order our breakfast. They provided a menu and each guest has a variety of choices. We were very pleasantly surprised to see a great number of items we would normally choose. On the front of the menu there is a space to put the time you want your breakfast to arrive. We had plenty of room prepare for the wedding and getting an Uber pickup in front of hotel was simple. The wedding was at Regatta Place on little goat Island so the hotel was ideally located. When we got back after the event we were happy to find the hotel quiet. We opened goodie bag and enjoyed the kettle corn, chocolates and pretzels. We settled in for a great night's sleep. The next morning at the selected time we heard a discreet knock on our door and our breakfast had arrived. Everything provided was fresh and delicious. We were very happy. The only thing that I can complain about is that we only had 1 night to enjoy the pampering of this unique property. We discussed coming back to spend a nice long weekend in the fall and book one of the rooms with a fireplace. We are looking forward to it.

So we ended up in what was called the honeymoon suite. This place is gorgeous. They give you coffee in your room with bottled water. Upon arrival you receive a welcome gift with some delicious chocolates. You also receive treats every day during your stay. The continental breakfast was an unexpected treat. They simply leave you a card at your door. You check off what you would like and it's at your doorstep the next morning. One of the cleanest places I have ever stayed at. The staff is beyond helpful if there was a downfall perhaps that there are no elevators, didn't bother us. Every afternoon in the waiting area there is sangria and flavored fruit water. Boardgames should you choose to borrow them. Will definitely be coming back here again. The location by the way is perfection.

We stayed four nights for our anniversary over the first weekend of June. In the plus column: + Complementary breakfast delivered to the room. + Complementary (very good) sangria in the afternoons. + Excellent location with great walkability to everything. + Very quiet. + The private rooftop decks in the townhouse suites are perfect for enjoying the sunset with a bottle of wine. + TERRIFIC front-desk staff. In particular, Hunter pointed us to the best meal we had (at Scales & Shells), and Lori saved us from starting the Cliff Walk in the wrong place due to a temporary closure. Mostly minor quibbles in the minus column: - The rooms are a bit dated (though very clean). - There was a lot of early-morning light in the sleeping area, and no way to get rid of it. - We couldn't get the fireplace in our room to work, though we must allow for the possibility that we are incompetent. - I wouldn't have hated a power source on my side of the bed, or an extra rack in the bathroom for hanging towels. Overall, though, a terrific stay and we'd definitely return.

Located just a block and a half away from Bowen's Wharf on Mill street right off of Thames Street, the Mill Street Inn is an old brick industrial building in the heart of historic Newport. It offers luxury accommodations, and a friendly staff that is all about making your stay a good one. The welcome bag was such a nice touch when I checked in, a fresh baked blondie, cashew nuts and salt water taffy. It's walking distance to everything downtown, restaurants, shops, and the harbor for boat tours and sailing. They also offer free parking, so once I arrived, I never had to use my car which was super convenient. However as much as I loved eating on the private patio that overlooked the harbor, the seagulls had surrounded me after about 10 minutes and they are not shy about attempting to share your dinner. Best to just use the patio for cocktails only. They also offer a nice breakfast that is included with your stay in the morning. Pastries, yogurt and granola, fresh fruit salad, cold brew coffee, fresh pressed juices, etc. The only reasons for not giving it five stars were that for the cost, I expected it to be a little larger, and there were some minor issues such as the mini fridge humming a high pitch annoying sound that made it hard to relax while downstairs watching tv, and the upstairs bedroom air conditioning unit had a large bright light on it that illuminated the room making it a little hard to sleep. Overall the experience was lovely and I would definitely stay there again, but I'd probably opt for a less expensive room.

I have to admit, I was pretty nervous about staying at Mill St when I started reading the reviews around the Internet. However, we decided, why not give it a try, we'd already bought the Groupon. We were immediately happy we did. The hotel staff, was incredibly pleasant, every single one greeted us. The hotel is laid out nicely and has off street parking, which is wonderful! We stayed in a King Suite on the first floor. The room was laid out well and the high ceilings really make the room appear even larger. There is a nightly turn down service that brings a small candy treat as well as an information sheet about the weather the next day and offers an idea of things to do in town. The room was clean and the maid service was great. They provided clean towels each day. There was also a continental breakfast each morning, that had a really great selection. Honestly, we were very happy with the location and accommodations and will certainly recommend the Inn to anyone we know who is heading to Newport.

Based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews and how beautiful the property looked online, we were genuinely excited to spend a couple of nights here. Unfortunately, for nearly $1,000 per night, the experience fell well short of expectations. At check-in, the concierge seemed completely uninterested. There was no welcome, no overview of the hotel, and no helpful information offered- it genuinely felt like we were inconveniencing her just by being there. We've stayed at other hotels in a similar price range, where the service is consistently warm, attentive, and polished, so this was especially disappointing. The valet was far more welcoming and professional than the front desk. After a short walk around town, we returned to the hotel and weren't acknowledged at all, the concierge kept her head down on her phone. I can appreciate a no-fuss stay where guests aren't overbothered, but for the price point and the fact that this was a special anniversary trip, being completely ignored wasn't what we expected. A simple greeting or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. The hotel itself is very pretty. The furnishings are lovely, and the room was nice and comfortable. The views were nothing particularly special; it appears the ocean-facing side is reserved for a conference space. Still, we did enjoy the room. Like many Newport hotels, valet parking is the only option and comes with a daily fee. The valet team was excellent- friendly, accommodating, and consistent throughout our stay. The restaurant deserves special mention: the staff was outstanding, and the food was excellent. Truly a five-star experience there- would def go back to dine with them. The location is also a positive, close enough to everything without being directly on the busy street. However, overall, we wouldn't choose to stay here again at this price point. Upon checkout, we noticed a charming bar/library space that we didn't even realize was available to guests as no one mentioned it to us during check-in. A beautiful hotel is wonderful, but to be considered luxury, the service needs to match the setting. Unfortunately, that piece was missing for us. If we wanted an experience that anyone could offer, we could have gone anywhere else, for much less.

It's a great spot for a drink especially in the summer time. Our recent visit on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, was not great. Despite it being a warm summer evening around 8 PM on a Wednesday, we were turned away because one person in our party wore a t-shirt instead of a collared shirt. For a midweek outing in August, that felt unnecessarily rigid and to be honest a little too pretentious. Although we can understand enforcing dress codes on weekend nights this seemed out of touch. We ended up at Thames Street Kitchen and Audette instead, both of which did not have strict dress codes. The Studio Bar at the Gardiner House still makes great cocktails, but the hospitality needs to match.

We parked in the front and unloaded the cars easily. We did not use valet, the Marriott lot was $48 a night. Walking to the lot next door took about 2 minutes. Valet guys are all nice and open the doors for you 98% of the time. With the daily destination fee, you also get 2 free tickets per room to the sailing museum or a vineyard 15 mins away (Sailing museum is free on Wednesdays). Had I known the museum was free Wednesdays, I would have chose the vineyard tickets instead. You also get $20 per room to use at the bar/restaurants as well as 2 bikes to rent. We checked into connecting balcony rooms. The rooms were clean but the balcony doors were hard to open. You have to pull it back really hard before unlocking it. The beds were comfortable. There are no microwaves but I called in to request one for the room. The first night I went to skiff bar to order some food and use our 2 $20 food credits. I ordered oysters and coconut shrimp. The oyster appetizer was terrible... the oysters flesh was tiny, totally not worth it. The next morning we had the hotel buffet for $32 a head. Omelet station was good. Standard breakfast items, view was good. We really only ate there for the view. Our waitress was barely around. Hotel is at a great location. Very close to the wharf and also right across from a small aquarium. The balcony was a nice place to chill, overall the hotel wasn't crowded. It's also very safe because you need to swipe a keycard to get to the hotel rooms. Best part of staying here was a pool table in the skiff bar. While waiting for my food, I just played two games by myself. I usually stay at Hiltons but I chose this Marriott because of the location and views. Glad I made this decision. We had a great experience with Peter, the Attwater's Front Desk Manager. Not only did he call us prior to check in to see if he could assist with anything we would need, he also upgraded us from the small Queen room that we had booked to the spacious Lark Suite, their largest accommodation. The suite had a gas fireplace, soaking tub, and gorgeous seating area with a dining table and several cozy couches and armchairs. We were super grateful for his hospitality, and even when we had a minor issue with the heating system in the room not lowering, Peter assisted us in the morning and generously offered vouchers for a future night stay. Thank you for your attention to detail and hospitality! I also LOVED the fact that the Attwater offers hot items in their included breakfast. We stay at a lot of small bed and breakfasts as stay and vacations, and one can only have so many cranberry muffins or glazed croissants.
