One of the most comfortable stays I ever had. The Bayberry Suite is worth the money and then some. After 6 hours of traveling from New York, all we wanted to do was rest and we were able to do that in the most luxurious manner: by sleeping and ordering pizza for dinner. The bed was immensely comfortable, the bathroom extremely relaxing and the general ambiance was just really lovely. Tait was ever so accommodating and it really improved the trip in every way. He cooked us really wonderful breakfast and had a fantastic playlist of music I just had to steal from him. read more

Perfect location and parking lot and it's free which is rare for Newport. Very gorgeous mansion, well kept and very beautifully decorated. The staff is very friendly and cordial . 10/10!! My extended family stayed here during my wedding weekend (28 people) ranging in ages 70 to 6 and everyone had a great time. They are extremely accommodating and communicative. Breakfast was gourmet and made to order- any and all snacks provided and could be dictated and chosen. The inn is extremely clean with recently renovated rooms. My groom and his groomsmen got ready here before the wedding in the living room with a grand piano and so much natural light- the esthetic is beautiful! The proximity to downtown is perfect- just a quick 5 min walk to everything Newport has to offer! We are already planning our stay for Summer 2022! read more

My wife and I stayed their this summer for our 25th anniversary. It was also our third time staying at the Bayberry Inn. The location is perfect as it is easy walking distance to the downtown area but far enough back to that we had a quite evening. The room was well kept and very comfortable. The innkeeper Karla was very friendly, accommodating, and attentive to our needs, including food allergies we have. Karla is also an amazing chef. Breakfast was delicious and provided a pleasant aroma to wake up too. We plan on staying there again when we take another vacation to Newport. read more

The Bayberry Inn. Damn. What can I say? It's the picture perfect Newport getaway spot. I felt like royalty in the King Charles suite (or Captain Charles?!) Serious charm. I had the best sleep of my life in the king bed I ended up ordering the exact sheet and quilt set!! How weird am I! The room was just breath taking. My favorite touch was the fresh cut hydrangeas from the Bayberry garden which were in our room and on every table in the breakfast room. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary with a stay at Bayberry. I would recommend staying here to anyone and everyone I know. Not only was the room beautifully decorated, but had all the amenities you need. Sadly, we didn't get a chance to use the two person jet tub, but should have! The Bayberry is on a lovely and quiet street. However, it is so close to EVERYTHING. You are a short walk to Bellevue St, the Warves for shopping and dining, and a lot of historical sites such as the synagogue and many historic homes. There are multiple spas within walking distance. The free parking is wonderful because you can park and walk to eat, drink, and shop. Here is a tip we will use next time...get up early morning before the heat and crowds and go to the beach and/or the Cliff Walk. Work up an appetite and head back to the Bayberry for an amazing breakfast made in house. We didn't eat out for breakfast once because it was so wonderful! Just got back from Newport, and everything was perfect. I chose the Bayberry Inn because they had the best reviews on Tripadvisor. Nikki and Tait.. surprisingly.. were in their 20's and waited on us hand and foot. Great accommodations, great conversations, and great referrals for spa and restaurants. Nikki spoiled us with her charm, Eggs Benedict and chocolate croissants..made us feel at home... Based on our conversations, I wouldn't pay heed to any reviews before 2016..before Nikki and Tait took the reins. They are a slam dunk if you want to impress your spouse and/or family. And, you can't believe how big and beautiful this historic house is until you see it first hand. Good call for my 25th Wedding Anniversary.. Never stayed, never will. Completely unaccommodating on change in travel plans. Booked through their site and paid $450 deposit six months in advance. When I called two weeks ahead of planned stay to cancel I was told 'sorry, you should have received a confirmation email with our cancellation policy . . . I must say I am in shock by all the lackluster reviews! I'm assuming the majority of reviewers must have visited during busy months. My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Bayberry twice and loved our visit each time. We always try to score a deal during the off season, as we aren't ones for big crowds or long waits. We did have a different inn keeper during our second visit but both women were very welcoming and hospitable. We usually opt to stay in the Bayberry suite on the first floor; it has one lounge room with a gas fireplace and two chairs that opens up into the bedroom. The bedroom has two large windows looking out onto the yard and garden, as well as a 2 person Jacuzzi tub and a flat screen TV. The bathroom is to the side of the bedroom and boasts a large shower with multiple jets. We never made it for the complementary tea time but both breakfast spreads were stellar. On our first visit the hot breakfast offering was a spinach quiche with breakfast sausage and on our second visit I think it was French toast. They always offer plenty of continental options as well including various breads, pastries, juices, teas, coffee, oatmeal, and cereal. They aren't particularly close to the main strip, but it is an enjoyable walk down and you pass many shops and historical landmarks. On one visit, we stopped at a quaint liquor store with many unique wines and picked some up; we also usually grab dinner somewhere nearby. Newport is extra beautiful without the crowds! I enjoy supporting independently run inn's opposed to chain hotels and alike. I'm sure operating such an inn, along with maintenance and upkeep can be a grueling task and must be a labor of love. If you're looking for something a bit more homey and welcoming, give the Bayberry a try! read more

Not a good experience, it almost seemed as though the owners were new to the whole running an Inn deal. The weekend started with a man opening the door and not even saying hello...nothing...just stood there with the door open and pointed to a room on the left. Then a girl came in and asked our name and left to locate our room key, still no greeting. The room was OK, but the curtains did not shut, the remote for the gas fireplace was nowhere to be seen, the bathroom was outdated and needed a new coat of paint, and the breakfast was awful. Hands-down the worst Inn breakfast that I have ever had. We paid $250 a night and the Holiday Inn that we recently stayed at was in better shape! There are too many nice Inns in Newport, skip this one. read more

Horrendous Experience. I have never been treated as rudely as I was at Bayberry Inn. The innkeeper needs a serious attitude adjustment. I wish I could say we stayed here but we were not allowed the chance to book anything. My fiancé and I walked into the inn hoping we could find someone to help us look at room blocks for our wedding. There was no one from the staff on the first floor so we thought we would peak around the second floor staircase to see if anyone was available. A woman on the top of the stairwell glared at me and when I asked if she worked here she have us a very condescending look and said "Do I work here? Yeah, I can't help you right now I am very busy but since you have already walked in (with heavy sarcasm on "walked in") I guess you can look around." My fiancé asked her if we had done something wrong and she said "This is a business...I guess I am not as nice as other innkeepers." When I told her we wanted to find information about room blocks she just said " yeah ok..." Who would ever say things like that? Sufficed to say we left, with the innkeeper following behind us bellowing that "we should have rang the doorbell." BTW the two front doors were wide open I have never been treated like this before by any bed and breakfast establishment in Newport and have never written a yelp review so CONGRATULATIONS BAYBERRY INN. I encourage anyone looking at this place to go somewhere, anywhere else than to encourage this kind of unprofessional behavior with one more hard earned dollar. read more

Stayed here with my husband for two nights. This place is awesome! Jennifer is so sweet and helpful. She provided us with wonderful tips such as places to go and eat. We were amazed by her candor and vibrant personality. The inn is walking distance from almost anywhere in Newport. We truly felt at home. There is a living and dining area which all guests can use throughout their stay. Coffee, cookies and all other delectable delights are available throughout the day in addition to the fantastic breakfast. I would definitely stay here again! read more

Just stayed at the Bayberry Inn this week and had a wonderful time! Cindy, the innkeeper, was a sweetheart and very accommodating! Our room was just fabulous and charming, with a gas fireplace and huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub. Afternoon tea and cookies were superb and breakfast was just great with eggs, a fritatta, farm ham and buffet choices of muffins, breads, yogurt and oatmeal. There is a lovely evening view from the upper balcony at the Bayberry of the Newport Pell bridge. Nice location that was not too far from downtown. Highly recommend and would absolutely stay at the Bayberry again on my next visit to Newport! read more

We stayed during the long President's Day weekend in 2011. When we arrived at the Bayberry Inn, we were cheerfully greeted by the innkeeper, Wendy. She led us to the Blue Room (#202), and let us know that afternoon tea is served from 4-6p and breakfast is from 9-10a. The Blue Room features a king-size bed, a gas fireplace (it was not working the first night, but we let Wendy know the following morning, and it was fixed for the rest of the trip - the pilot light went out, apparently), two armchairs, an ottoman, and a dresser. The room is at corner of the house, and has two large windows. Also, the ceilings are really high (which is a nice change from being in NYC). The bathroom features a one-person shower, a large Jacuzzi (it fits 2, unless you and your partner are fat), pedestal sink, and lots and lots of towels. Also, there are soaps, shampoos, and conditioners, and a mini-hairdryer. The tiles in the bathroom are a little slippery, or it was my foot. Breakfast is good. Every day, there was fresh bread, mini-muffins, coffee bread, coffee, tea, yogurt and granola. Each day, there is a different fresh/hot food special. The first day, we had waffles and sausages. The waffles were good, but it was a lot of food; the sausages were the breakfast ones from the freezer aisle, but whatever - I never buy it for myself at home so it was nice to have. Also, they had hard boiled eggs, in case people need more protein that what is offered for their hot food. The second day, we had shirred eggs and hash browns. The eggs were cooked in a little cast iron dish, and sprinkled with Parmesan and herbs. It was tasty and basically a sort of broiled version of poached eggs. The hash browns tasted very fresh, but under-seasoned. Our last morning, we had French toast and breakfast sausages. Again, there were hard-boiled eggs. The French toast was almost like a French toast bread pudding, which was yummy. The last day, the fresh bread was the best - it was a airy, buttery brioche-like loaf. At the first afternoon tea, there were random baked goods - like muffins and fruity pound cake. We weren't into it - we went out for clam chowder, since we had just gotten into Newport and wanted something savory. The second day, there was apple pie. The crust was amazing; the filling was on the sweet side. And then, the third day, there were sugar cookies, which my boyfriend loves and he forced me to get the recipe from Wendy. Wendy wasn't around, but another of the inn workers (I didn't catch her name, but she is young-ish, and even though a lot of people on TripAdvisor complained about how this place is run by teenagers, she was very helpful and friendly, which is all I want) let me take a photo of the recipe. They cleaned/made up our rooms after our first night. However, they didn't after our second night. I'm not sure if they make up the rooms every other night of a stay, or if they only made up our rooms because they had to go in an fix the fireplace, or if they gave up because we had thrown all bojillion of the decorative pillows off the bed and rolled around a lot on the bed. I don't really care though. If we were staying longer, maybe I'd care, but really, I need to learn to sleep in one place anyway. Location-wise, it was about a 10-minute walk to get to stuff (like the harbor/downtown area). It feels far when it's super cold/windy - there were gale-force winds on one of the days of our stay. The porch/patio is adorable and I can imagine really enjoying a summer afternoon on it. read more
