This is the best market in the county by far, a very personal and hometown feeling here.

I'm a huge advocate of Farmers Markets. I love that they bring together locals as well as local…read morevendors. I had a good time, and would definitely recommend coming here at least once, but I may wait awhile before coming again. Mainly because trying to find parking near this market is insane. That, and I wasn't necessarily blown away by any one particular vendor. I highly suggest coming early or parking a little ways down - since come 6:00pm - Downtown San Rafael is a madhouse. As far as clothing and jewelry vendors - I didn't see too much that stood out to me personally, but it was still fun to browse. The Food vendors were very friendly. I tried a mini vanilla Teeny Cake, which was probably the highlight of my stroll-through. The fruit looked delicious and I loved that so many of the fruit vendors had samples out. White nectarines, peaches, and plums - juicy and perfectly ripe were everywhere. I watched a number of mellow soulful musical performances, before turning the corner and heading to Sol Food for some Mango Iced Tea and plantains. I'm so glad that these early night Farmers Markets exist. It's an incredible way to bring together a diverse group of people in a warm and genuine way. Would definitely recommend- if you happen to be in the area on an upcoming Thursday.

The one thing I do like about this Thursday evening market is the deep discounts that go on close to the 8 p.m. closing time. Linger around, then pounce on those $1/pound nectarines, plums, and peaches. Grab 3 flower bouquets for $10. Get a mess of end of summer/end of night tomatoes. They have the usual fruits and vegetables, an assortment of okay food, live LOUD music on the little square beside Arizmendi Bakery, inflatable jumpy things at one end, and mostly forgettable jewelry/clothes/junque at the other end. No dogs allowed here, even on a leash. You will be stopped, so don't even bother trying.

Forget it about it, these people wouldn't know common courtesy or normal socially acceptable behavior if it bit them in the ass! Really, there's nothing to be snobby about, people walking around dressed like hobo's and they have their snouts turned up because apparently having a stick up your ass is the latest and greatest. Man I could care less for that type of service, people in general. I go over to buy honey. I end up paying for my items, and I'm standing there with jars in my hand. The guy doesn't say thank you or have a nice one. nope nothing. Out of habit I had already said thank you upon handing him my money, like he's doing ME a favor. lol. So he's slient. I'm holding the jars, and I ask "May I get a bag? I have more shopping to do and cant walk around with these jars".... NO response. Effing really?!!!!!! He's looking right at me. Ok... awkward. He stares at me like I'm about to steal stuff, with my hands full of the stuff I just bought. I give him a look like what the hell you staring at and he's like..... "Yessssss?" WOW! I'm like "can i get a bag?" after he had ignored me I repeat the question and he shrugs his shoulders and goes "I dont got any bags"... Great. The guy apparently "dont got any bags". Whatever I throw the honey jars in my purse and other bags. I'm from the bay area! EVERYONE here is way more awesome. Our farmer's market vendor's say THANK YOU for your purchases and the people are even more friendly spreading the common "Oops, excuse me" and "sorry" when bumping into each other or reaching for something in front of someone's face. I'm so over Marin. Lol. This is why I choose to shop my local vendor's as a general rule. Besides the people, the actual products were alright. I'm a big cosmetics fanatic so when we come across a homemade soap stall, I'm like wooo! These smell great. I started piling an assortment of various soaps into a pile I was going to purchase but oh man the guy who was selling the products was being a prick. I'd ask him a question and he'd turn and start rummaging through his bins. It was so bad, I ended up putting back everything but 1 bar. I thought hey whatever these people are weird I'll move on. I ended up shopping at Beauty Expo behind a stall on the strip of the farmer's market. The people in there were worse, following us around and harassing us. "Can I help you? Are you looking for something? Can I help you look for something?" "What are you in for?" I literally had to stop myself from telling her "I don't know lady but do you wanna walk through the aisle's with me?" WHAT IS UP WITH THESE PEOPLE??? Who wants to willingly shop here? Ick! Marin county and Farmer's market at 4th street, you can eat dirt. If your from the bay area or anywhere basically in the world where you've learned better than to be socially inept, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! If your from anywhere in Marin, then keep doin what your doin I guess.
