While visiting my friend 5-ish years ago things didn't sit quite right with me. She was in the hospital for nearly a month with an excruciatingly painful kidney infection that just wouldn't heal quickly nor easily. To me, that seemed odd... but I'm not a doctor. She didn't seem to be getting what she needed to heal properly. Upon being discharged she sought other doctors for prolonged care. About two years ago, my mom fell and dislocated her shoulder. I took her to the emergency room at Baptist Beaches. Knowing she was in pain, she wasn't actually seen for any type of care (just checked in and places in a room for several hours before even meeting the ER doctor. While waiting she wasn't given anything for her pain, either.... Not even some ice to place on the shoulder. Once the doctor came him he was VERY short with her and spoke rather rudely, almost as if to childishly mock her because she, too, was being short and raising her voice. However, she was the one in pain! He even threatened to 'walk out of the room and not come back' after she told him that she didn't want morphine. She related it to another family member's death and it was an unpleasant trigger for her. He behaved quite immaturely as I waited for him to stomp his feet as he left the room. I literally had to be a referee for the two of them. To this day, my mom STILL cannot lift her arm much higher than where her elbow is. However, that is in part because she didn't go to physical therapy after her injury. A couple of months ago, I again had to take my mother to the ER immediately following a visit with her general practitioner. It was discovered that she had a blood lot in her leg. To this day, we don't know how big it is, if it's dissipated, where she's bleeding from, or exactly how serious it was. We DO know that this visit was much more palatable for her 5 day stay. The nurses were more polite and orderly in their interactions with her. They seemed to be knowledgeable and very thorough with their responsibilities and communications. In both cases, I'm grateful to have had an emergency room so close to her home!

The hospital has changed a lot since it first opened. It used to feel much more patient-focused and much cleaner. While in the ER, my dad had an accident with his tubing, and urine and feces ended up everywhere. The next morning, I was cleaning the sink myself with disinfectant wipes from their cabinet. After surgery, he was moved to B Tower, 4th Floor. While the doctors were excellent, the nurses were not pleasant or helpful. Sunday he had several family members visiting and helping him. On Monday, July 27, my dad called the family asking someone to bring him ice from Circle K because the nurses kept telling him the ice machine was broken. After not eating for seven days, making sure he had ice should have been a priority. I called the patient advocate to ask what the problem was. My dad had also been told physical therapy would come Monday to get him up and walking after surgery, but that never happened. Instead, my grandson got him out of bed and brought him ice. The patient advocate said she would visit him Tuesday, but she never did. When I visited Tuesday, his call button and TV remote were lying on the floor. He said the overnight nurse had dropped them and left without putting them back within his reach. At discharge, the doctors prescribed three medications and were told to send them to Walgreens on Main Street. Instead, they were sent to Express Scripts, meaning his pain medication and antibiotics would take one to two weeks to arrive. Common sense says those are medications a patient needs immediately after surgery, not weeks later. On Thursday, while I was there, a discharge nurse called to ask if he needed anything. He explained the prescription mix-up, and her response was simply, "I'm sorry, I can't help with that. You'll have to call back." The doctors provided excellent care, but I can't say the same about the nursing staff or overall hospital experience. It's disappointing to see how far this hospital's patient care has declined. It was a nightmare.

Ónyx was only 9 weeks old when he accidentally swallowed a piece of a treat that became lodged in his airway. We brought him in because his breathing sounded strange, but we could have never imagined how quickly everything would change. The director immediately performed X-rays, and within less than 30 minutes, Ónyx went into respiratory shock. From that moment, I watched the entire team move with an urgency, coordination, and dedication that I will never forget. Everyone ran to help my puppy. Dr. Timberlake had to perform an emergency endoscopy to remove the foreign object from his airway a procedure that carried significant risk for such a tiny, 9-week-old puppy. It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. Dr. Timberlake successfully removed the object and saved Ónyx's life. Afterward, he remained under constant observation and oxygen support for hours. Dr. Peña was absolutely wonderful as well, and every single assistant treated Ónyx with so much love, gentleness, and respect. They did not leave him alone for even one second. There was always someone watching him, caring for him, and making sure he was safe. As a pet mom standing there terrified and feeling completely helpless, seeing the way this team cared for my baby meant more than I can explain. They didn't treat Ónyx like "just another patient." They treated him like his life mattered. They treated him like the deeply loved baby that he is to us. Because of their knowledge, their quick response, their teamwork, and their dedication, I have my baby home with me today. I can watch him eat, sleep, play, and be his happy little self again. There is no review and no amount of stars that could ever truly represent the gratitude I feel. Dr. Timberlake, Dr. Peña, and the entire team: thank you from the deepest part of my heart. Thank you for running for my puppy. Thank you for not giving up on him. Thank you for caring for him every single second. Thank you for saving Ónyx. I will be eternally grateful to all of you. Because of you, I still have my baby with me.

Private bath was nice size. Huge TV and a smaller one to watch shows and videos. The nurses station was right out side the big front window for monitoring reasons and they were always very attentive and caring. ( had a Blind on it for privacy) They do have a common area for parents and guest with a micro wave and a few snack machines in the front of the floor. Only 2 can visit at a time in the back. Pros: No place to keep groceries, no refer. Parents have to go out and eat at the food areas which can be costly if staying for a while or they can go home if you live in the area which is not reasonable as who wants to leave your child for that reason. If they have a sibling they cant come back but only can sit out in common area which does not offer small children a play area. After the 5 weeks we were so relieved and thankful just to be able to take our new family member home. I would love to inform that this is a opportunity for a non profit organization who would love to help these family's living out of a room, taking care of their family while some are also trying to work while going through these awful situations. They have 5 floors of children who need extra care and I know there is the Ronald McDonald house that does great things but that is for out of area family's mostly. Thank you Baptist and Wolfson's for the excellent care we received. We pray for all the family's who have to go thru this process like we did.i hope you never have to leave a review but if you do thus is a great place to be.
