Was referred her for my daughter who had a fractured wrist and broken forearm. Awesome care, as a nurse myself it is wonderful receiving kind care from the medical staff. All the nurses were kind, kid friendly, and attentive to everyone. My 11 yr old (the patient), my 5y/o (the very concerned sister) and me (mom). Great communication, speedy work, great care. The care my child received was ineffective in that she continued spiking high fevers throuought our vacation week without treatment from the care team. When we returned to our home state and local urgent care, they diagnosed her with PNEUMONIA. :( Furthermore, working with their payment processing center is a NIGHTMARE straight out of a movie. We were transferred at least three times because the individual on the phone "couldn't help us". I would avoid this organization at all costs. read more

My new granddaughter was in here at the NICU 4th floor for 5 weeks In May 2023 Here's the Pros and Cons of the stay: Pros: Nice ICU room with a pull out couch that the parents sleep on. Private bath was nice size. Huge TV and a smaller one to watch shows and videos. The nurses station was right out side the big front window for monitoring reasons and they were always very attentive and caring. ( had a Blind on it for privacy) They do have a common area for parents and guest with a micro wave and a few snack machines in the front of the floor. Only 2 can visit at a time in the back. Pros: No place to keep groceries, no refer. Parents have to go out and eat at the food areas which can be costly if staying for a while or they can go home if you live in the area which is not reasonable as who wants to leave your child for that reason. If they have a sibling they cant come back but only can sit out in common area which does not offer small children a play area. After the 5 weeks we were so relieved and thankful just to be able to take our new family member home. I would love to inform that this is a opportunity for a non profit organization who would love to help these family's living out of a room, taking care of their family while some are also trying to work while going through these awful situations. They have 5 floors of children who need extra care and I know there is the Ronald McDonald house that does great things but that is for out of area family's mostly. Thank you Baptist and Wolfson's for the excellent care we received. Our kid had a school yard accident and needed the services of Wolfson's. I parked in P2 and took the sky bridge into the main building on the second floor. I asked the young lady behind the desk if I needed a visitation pass and she advised only after 9. I thanked her and followed signs to Wolfson's. I ended up in Wolfson's surgery waiting area which is not where I was supposed to be. There was no one at the desk to ask for help. A couple of uniformed people entered but they must not have heard or seen me trying to get their attention for help. I texted my husband, "These sure aren't friendly or helpful folk," as I walked back out to the hallway where a couple more people walked by without seeing or hearing me ask for help (I had on a mask but feel I clearly looked lost). I called my husband who passed the phone to the nurse. The nurse directed me to where she could come to me and escort me to their location. Apparently that was a shortcut only for staff because my husband went to eat in the cafeteria and when he tried to come back the way he came he was told so. However, he was not provided directions for getting where he needed to go by the person informing him. The person was only adamant that he needed to leave the place. So he called me and one of the nurses was able to identify his location by his description of his surroundings and directed him back to us. When he returned he chortled and said, "You're right, these are not friendly or helpful folk." The facility is quite the maze. It's hard to follow signs into the area you need to go but it's not so hard following the signs to the garage once you find your way to the main hall. The most confusing part was going a direct route throughout the hospital with the nurse (he was moved to a few different areas) to having to go all around the world to get out or back to the same place without them. Everyone involved in his care were great and made sure we understood the care plan and were quite helpful in making sure we got to where we needed to go when we called each other. They are the reason for the 3 stars. There were also people who helped me when I found my way into the wrong patient area another time. I needed to be in a different tower. They gave good directions. That and the decorations were cool and hospital was clean. The minus 2 stars is for the maze, the reluctance of staff to help, and the seemingly lack of security (while I was lost, I didn't see a lot of security cameras or security staff... They could have been hidden but seeing them makes me feel safe especially when I am lost by myself). Oh and people were lost in the garage too lol. read more

this is an odd review I know but I truly appreciate wolfson children's hospital, they know how to take care of there patients and make them feel safe, a couple years ago on Christmas Eve, I was crushed and had my femur snapped in half as a kid. I lived in kingsland georgia, which is a bit of a drive to the hospital in Jax, I had been already taken into one hospital in the area, just for them to not have room, and was than sent to wolfsons, where they thankfully took care of me, and helped me enjoy the rest of my Christmas, with my family there, even though I was stuck in there for a while they brought me lots of toys to make me feel at home and always tried to cheer me up. read more

They saved my little brothers life. My brother at age 13 started having side pains, throwing up, constantly running fevers, and couldnt walk 3 steps without losing breath . we been to multiple doctors and hospitals who sent him home without finding anything wrong with him. Then we came to wolfson children hospital and they immediately sent him to the ICU where he was diagnosed with full renal kidney failure. He was days away from death. He goes 3 times a week for dialysis and believe it or not he loves going. Its like staying at a hotel. Everyone spoils him there. The doctors and nurses truly care for the patients and make sure they are given the treatment they need. There is a guy that comes and does art with with the children and he became a role model to my brother. Without comparison Wolfsen is the best hospital i stepped foot in. This has been the worst experience from a place I used to rave about.. I don't understand why the ER doesn't match up with the rest of the hospital. From the moment we entered to rude security and then chewed up candy left on the tables with him on the floor. The place was disgusting. Waiting for three hours to been seen by triage to be turned back out into that gross waiting room for another 5 hours. We were there for the mental health of my 9 year old and told that other people were having more severe problems and we would just need to wait. The first night we were there, it became too late to we went home without even being seen and decided to try again the next day because it's my understanding the only way to get help is to go through the ER for a mental health evaluation and get set up with doctors that can help. After another 5 hours in the ER the next day we finally get a room and get him seen and admitted to the Children's Behavioral Health Inpatient program. On my way to the vending machines I ran into the President of the adult side of the ER and I wish I would have told her about our experience thus far but then again what could she have done. The entire experience was filled with miscommunication, even to the point of them almost discharging my son to his father that doesn't have visitation this weekend. First he was to be discharged on Monday at 4pm. Then they changed it to Saturday at 4pm. Then a doctor that hadn't even worked on his case during the week called and said he would be discharged at 5pm on Saturday just wait for them to call you. So I waited and they never called until 5:30 telling me that they thought I was going to be there already. So now he will be discharged at 6:30. I get there and I ask if he will have enough medication of this new one they've put him on to last until I can get it filled it being Easter and the pharmacy closing at 7pm I won't be able to get his prescriptions until Monday. They say no you'll just have to go without for a couple days I guess. HOW IS THAT SETTING UP A CHILD FOR SUCCESS?!?! Oh and you know those recommendations of doctors that we will be set up with to help so he is successful and we don't go through this again.. the list is no where to be found and I asked about it several times as well as on the family therapy session. Also, the folder of information that your supposed to get at intake was handed to me at discharge. What a JOKE!!! Very saddened by the whole experience. If I could give 0 stars I would they don't care for sick kids. My daughter has sickle cell anemia she was in so much pain that all she could do was cry. We was waiting for 4 hours in a room an still hasn't seen a doctor. The nurses at the station only cared about getting their food order. I asked one of the nurses when is the doctor going to come she left and came because 5 minutes later saying he was coming but when he did come he didn't come to the room he went to the nurse's station and got his food and never came. My child and I left sickle cell is not something to be taken lightly. This is by far the worst CHILDREN hospital ever. read more

Wolfson's has been, ever since 2015 and 16 when I suffered my ruptured brain aneurysms and stayed on Weaver 10 after having emergency surgeries, and still to this day continues to be my medical hospital of choice for so many reasons! For one, they have one of my favorite restaurants downstairs on the first floor, Firehouse Subs. Besides the two top floors, where my neurosurgeon, Ricardo Hanel's office is, and the Neuro ICU on the floor below where my ICU nurses who've taken me in as family work where I stayed inpatient after both of my major brain bleeds, they have a floor for every medical need you might have! Some of my former classmates got nursing jobs there, so after I finish my annual routine angiograms on the second floor, I request and get to see and catch up with them! Plus, this community is always a place of second chances for me! I get my dislike of needles from my mother and grandmother, and my nurses cater to that perfectly with all of their kid-friendly technology! All I have to do is schedule my angiogram with Dr Hanel, fast after twelve in the morning the night before, head there first thing after waking up at around 5ish, check into the hospital early, dress into my hospital gown, get my IV in with the technology that shows me my veins and comforts me, and just relax the rest of the way! The last I remember from previous years is dressing, getting in bed, being rolled into the operating room, being told I'd be put to sleep, and waking up to a refreshing nap with good news because of all of the metal I have in my body which only shows blurs in MRIs and CT scans! I also got my baclofen pump implanted here because of my spasticity from my stroke! Wolfson's, Dr Hanel, and so many wonderful doctors are the reason why Jacksonville is a national medical hotspot! I've never had issues with parking because when I've came here I've either been in an ambulance or have come here first thing in the morning for procedures, but if you ever run into trouble, you can just go through the floors looking and maybe even get to the top one where you'll have a nice view of Jacksonville! read more

I can't say enough good things about this hospital! The staff tried to do anything they can to accommodate you, to the point where you almost forget you're in a hospital. I had to stay overnight once and the employees were terrific around the clock! The even have someone who can stay in the room with you whole your family member grabs a bite to eat. The floor we were located on had toys galore and the view from the floor to ceiling Windows were incredible! They even offer saltines and Graham crackers and coffee with cream and various sugars the morning after your stay, complimentary!! Upon leaving someone walks you to your car from your room, you almost fill like your in a high end hotel because everyone is so friendly and compassionate! Never chaotic like normal hospitals and doctors offices. read more

I'm not quite sure where to start, but I guess I will start off by saying...my son was not a patient. But rather, a dear friend of ours has kids that must undergo treatment. We were simply visiting the hospital to keep them company. Hospitals in general aren't exactly happy places since everyone is there for a reason. And for the most part, those reasons normally involve something lifesaving, aren't good, etc. So...I felt like it was my/our job to help forget the obvious...if only for a short time. On that note, we volunteered to keep our friends company while they went through their monthly treatment. When we went to the Day Hospital area you could hear a pin drop. Yikes! I couldn't hardly take it...I felt like I had to fight back tears and I hadn't even stepped into one of our friends' rooms yet. But hey...our friends are good folks and sometimes you just need to forget why you have to be in a place and need something to make the time fly. I mustered to find my jovial self and man oh man...what a difference in atmosphere...the nurses joined right in with a few laughs here and there and a good sense of humor (yes, they stayed professional). Our friends receiving treatment loved it...they needed to laugh and to forget about the obvious. We were there for close to 3 hours of their 5 hour treatment and it flew by. The staff really makes a difference in times like these. I know I appreciated it on behalf of our friends and I know they did too. We had fun! Wait! Did I just say (type) that out loud? Well, we did and I'm so happy we went...looking forward to next time! After all, if my friends need us...then we'll be there! Besides, I look forward to seeing the nurse who said she was going to hide from me next time (I loved that)! A little laughter goes a long way...and quite often...it truly is the best medicine. Heaven forbid if I ever need to take my son here as a patient or if any of you reading this need to. But rest assured...the staff is pretty cool! There are a few CONs! Our friends are brothers. The rooms are too small to have them in the same room. So their mother must split her time and as you can imagine...this is hard. I wish they had rooms big enough to accommodate siblings for the sake of the siblings and the parents. Even with us visiting...how do we split our time? We managed, but golly...it sure would have been easier if they were in the same room. Plus, when one is left nearly alone or whatever...the obvious returns...put yourself in their shoes! The other thing is, they only have movies to watch unless they bring something to do...no games, game consoles, etc...so it can be boring and hard to take your mind off the obvious for all (parents & patients). Jus' sayin'! I'd also like to give a shout out to the volunteer at the information station by the parking garage on the first floor...thanks for your help with directions!!! I wouldn't have found where I was going without his help. As it stands, the best advice I can give anyone reading this is...depending on where you are going in the hospital...leave a bread trail so you can find your way back! While I'm at it...there is an absolutely awesome gift shop on the first floor! Holy Cow...they sell a little bit of everything! Plus, there is a Walgreens Pharmacy on the first floor too! Why did I give them a 4? Well, I thought they were pretty groovy, but my son hasn't been a patient there, nor have I had to deal with the staff in a medical capacity. So, it's not really fair for me to give a 5...but I can say I'm a fan at this time. read more

We have been to the Wolfson Children's Hospital many times and have found it to be extraordinary. They are highly skilled professionals in varying fields. They have the latest equipment. They are usually fairly easy to schedule with. In some places it takes a month or so to get an MRI. You can get an MRI at Wolfson in just a week or so. Parking is a bit of an issue there as their garage is across the street from the hospital and you can get stuck in bad weather. Frankly the place is so huge that it is difficult sometimes to find your way around. I feel they need more qualified help to make sure that you can find where you need to go. read more

Brought my son here at the advice of EMS because he needed staples on the back of his head from falling. He is a year and a half old. Got there and the waiting room is filled almost to capacity with sick patients. My so. Is bleeding like crazy. Waited almost 3 hours. They took 3 patients ahead of me in that time. Still had 6 more ahead of me! My son was in need of emergency staples in his head and they did not prioritize trauma over fevers. My son was acting funny and ran into a cement trash can further injuring his face. The front desk could not have cared less that my child was bleeding and acting funny. After that, I left and went to UFHEALTH River City ER where they let me wait with him in my car until they came and got me when they were ready for him. The front office to the nurse and doctor were FAST and AMAZING! From the time I was in the room and they had given my child his staples, I was out in 10 minutes! I will NEVER go back to Wolfsons ever again in my life! If your kid has real trauma, they don't prioritize it over fevers. That's crap. read more

Wolfson's Children's Hospital, located in Jacksonville, Florida, is a well-staffed and well-run hospital giving maximum care to their children. Unfortunately, we had to spend some time here when we were in the area, but we couldn't have asked for nicer people. The ICU team is very dedicated and focused on proper, immediate care of your child. There is a 1 to 1 staff/patient ratio so that they can ensure optimal care without distraction. The ICU is VERY secure and monitors every individual visitor they allow to enter. Doors are kept locked and you must be identified on video before you can enter. The regular rooms outside of the intensive care unit are also very nice. For parents they have flat screen TVs with an on demand cinema where you can watch movies for free. The rooms aren't that comfortable to sleep in overnight as you are required to use a couch that doubles as a bed. (Not a pull out couch.) As far as food goes in the hospital, there is a grill on the first floor that has a limited menu consisting of burgers, wings etc. On the 8th floor of the towers section is the main cafeteria where you can order from a slightly larger menu with some items that are made to order. Finally, there is a Chick Fil A inside the hospital, but it closes at 4:00p each day. I was happy with the overall experience we had. I hope we never come back. Haha. read more

My experience(s) here have been very pleasant. I have spent many days and nights here growing up. The staff are very attentive and there is always something to do. The hem/onc floor and main floor are really all I can speak of and this was even before the amazing new add on that was much needed. I can also speak for the ER which is a part of Baptist as well. There is a coalition between Nemours, Wolfsons and Baptist Health. The food is very well... Hospital like but the attentiveness to their patients and their families is amazing. Child life is awesome as well as some teen/craft rooms throughout. read more

So, unfortunately my son broke his finger playing baseball and we ended up here last Friday. After just a week of x rays and a small cast we get here Friday morning at 9:30 AM and we are immediately called back to prepare him for surgery. it was a pretty bad break in the joint of the right index finger. Let me tell you.....we saw a team of 5 or 6 nurses until it was time for them to take him back. From the nurse who took his temperature to Dr. Loveless, who performed the surgery, he could not have been better taken care of. These folks checked and checked and checked again to make sure he was going to get the best care possible. Needless to say the surgery went well. He got an even bigger cast and is pretty much making do as best he can for an extremely active 14 year old. Surfing and baseball will have to wait for a few more weeks. read more

I stayed in the mental hospital here. It was overall a very good experience though some of the nurses were especially disrespectful. One in particular, Nurse Stacy was explicitly rude to me. To be specific, after I had left another patient there informed that she made fun of the way I speak. I have a lisp and a rather high voice but I'm a minor and was literally in a mental hospital for slitting my wrist. Not very professional. read more

I had to take my 4 month old daughter here last night. She has a bacteria of some kind in her GI. They quickly took us to the back to get vitals. She had a fever so they brought us to a room and got everything started right away. She need fluids. They got her IV placed and started fluids quickly. We were done in about 5 hours. Everyone was so kind and loving. They are truly angels in scrubs. I know we were there for something minor compared to what was going on around us but they still made us feel like we were just as important as the next person. Thank you Wolfsons for the wonderful service. You guys are AMAZING! read more

We can't thank the ER staff enough for taking care of our toddler on Friday. He was very sick and they were able to help keep him comfortable and treat his symptoms. Had a colonoscopy/endoscopy done here on 06/09/2016 and my veins are deep, and small, therefore making them hard to find. I notified the nurse in pre op before they did my IV how much trouble I have with finding veins, and she immediately called the pick team. The woman who came up had been doing strictly difficult IVs for 12 years and it was the best experience I've had with an IV. Usually takes 4-6 sticks and digging around (about 15-45 min) to actually get the vein and keep it there. When the pick team did it, she used the ultrasound, found a good vein, and got it in 1 stick and under 5 minutes with no pain. absolutely amazing place. read more

I must say these past few days have been very upsetting and troublesome for my family. My daughter was scheduled for 2 surgeries by Nemours Children's in Jacksonville and the surgeries were supposed to be performed at Wolfson's Children's Hospital in Jacksonville on August 1st. We made special arrangements to be out of work, travel from our home, hotel reservations, etc. Only to arrive the morning of her procedures to be told that Wolfson's Children's Hospital did not accept my daughter's insurance, after she fasted and we were up at 5am with our daughter for the procedures. The fact that so...many people dropped the ball here is unfathomable. We pre-registered with the hospital one week prior and provided our insurance information and the doctor at Nemours who was supposed to perform the procedure was ALSO aware of her insurance as they had billed it before for her evaluations. I have heard excuse after excuse from EVERYONE. I am now taking this to social media to WARN ALL PARENTS who have surgery procedures scheduled for their children to PLEASE call the hospital ahead of time to make sure they accept your insurance because apparently those in charge of checking is not doing so. We are now forced to find another doctor for her to see only to go through this all again. Absolutely absurd. read more

My daughter took a horrible spill at school, which resulted in a nasty laceration to her knee. I want to thank Dr. Warren Davidson & Mary Lauren Upchurch for their outstanding efforts!! They both took their time with my daughter and cared for her as though they knew her personally. The laceration was in a difficult spot and required extra work, but Dr. Warren took additional precautions when stitching her up. We are a week shy of healing and her knee looks exceptional! My pediatrician referred me to Wolfson's for an ultrasound. I made an appointment for 9:30am and was told to arrive at 9 to register. I did and was told that I should be called up in 15 minutes, if not then I should speak with someone at the front desk so they can call up to radiology to find out what is going on. To make a long story short, it took me asking three times of asking to speak to manager before anyone came down to explain what was going on and even then it wasn't a manager so I had to ask a fourth time. It finally took five times of asking and two hours of waiting (and lots of attitude from Ron and Jasmyn at the front desk) before a manager came down to explain that there were three emergencies taking up the imaging rooms and that my daughter's appointment had been bumped. When I mentioned that this should have been told to me at least 1.5 hours ago so I could have rescheduled, she tried to shift the blame back to me by saying that they didn't have the work order because the pediatrician said I was bring it in. This was true, but if they needed the work order before I could be put in the line up for imaging, why did they wait two hours to ask for it. She still could not guarantee when my daughter could be seen, saying it could be anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 or more and asked if I wanted to wait or reschedule. I told her I had to get back to work and that I never wanted to see this place again. Pediatric specialty or not, their affiliation with Baptist Health is appropriate since the service is crappy at both! Go elsewhere. read more

First I want to say that we were scheduled for surgery and we're told that we were the doctors first surgery of the day, to arrive at 6:30 am. We do that to be told that something happened to the system and we're not on the schedule, so they were trying to put us on at 1pm. The doctor did push another appointment to fit us in before that but still, not a good experience being told two different things. Second of all when in recovery and my child was trying to wake up having a hard time with taking his pain medicine because of the anesthesia so a nurse came in and tried to help but my child still didn't want to take it. I asked if I could get some gold fish for an empty stomach and That nurse had no right to tell me that my son was acting like a 2 year old and not his age and I shouldn't have to bribe for food. This nurse had no right to say the things that she did and if that is how she acts when a kid is in recovery trying to come out of anesthesia she may be in the wrong department! I am at lose of words to say this was a disappointment!!! read more

We arrived at the emergency room form an accident on a Saturday. Despite the waiting room being wall to wall people. They got us in immediately. The nurse could not have been more efficient and caring. The doctor arrived quickly. Despite the madness of the full floor of children, the nurse and doctor were patient, kind and most importantly quick to take care of my son. I have unfortunately had many trips for various reasons to ERs. This was the best experience of all of them. read more

Wolfson- Seek another Children s Hospital Now!!! When your child's health is at risk, communication is everything. The lines of Communication between the Doctors of Nemours and Wolfson and the Doctors and the Parents is terrible. Very unprofessional- they deliver a consent form for the parent to sign for a dangerous surgical procedure, without a required consult to discuss options and associated risks involved. I personally, have had dozens of surgeries through the years and never had this low a level of service. Specialty Doctors are supposed to be consulted to give your child the Utmost care, but days go by and these doctors never show up. Either they are understaffed , incompetent or just do not care. Parents beware- if you love your child- don't let the shiny floors and the fancy chairs fool you. Find a better level of service, Shands perhaps.
